Honestly I was more engaged in the spoon-cutting "plotline" I guess and where that was going to go. I thought the red spoon and coconut gag was hilarious but the Pyramid Head thing just took me out of it. But I was willing to overlook it. But then like....the irl stuff happens where he's basically vlogging his rise to fame and all his success and opportunities getting viral hits from early 2010s internet. Which was both interesting and kind of a weird humblebrag in my opinion. It was a deflation from the absurdity of spooncutting, that's for sure. It might be on the same tier as horse_ebooks but it just feels more manufactured.

Edit: While i still think this series and video are kinda weird, now that i’ve had a month to think about it, my comment here is a bit overreactive. Please take it with several grains of salt Is it just me, or did this not have any kind of message or even a coherent idea behind it at face value? It’s bizarre and uncanny, but it’s really goofy with only a bit of half-baked horror. It exhausts its main premise right away, and starts bringing in random plot points to keep itself going. The only sense i can make of it is that it’s a multi-level parody of creators with no self awareness, and it’s all on purpose. But, the problem with that is the final video, the dude is so earnest and believable with his influencer-speak i seriously can’t tell if it’s real, a parody, or somewhere in between. And then NM acts like that video speaks for itself and goes to outro right after with nothing more to say?? I’m very confused.

I feel like the creator had at least a general idea for some sort of series, but (as you said) exhausted it very early on. It almost feels like it’s trying to be an Alan Resnik/Wham City Comedy type of thing, but doesn’t quite hit the mark. Like I said, I think the guy had an idea in his head for how he wanted the series to go, it just didn’t pan out like he was hoping it would.

Ok, so I'm not alone in thinking this started off as entertaining and interesting, then trailed off into being aimless and dissatisfying I legitimately can't tell whether the bit at the end is parody or sincere, but either way, it made me realise the unfiction doesn't seem to have any kind of narrative or creativity, or if it does, then it's two levels of meta and the series is actually a massive long-con deep dive into a clout chasing influencer I genuinely know nothing about any of the videos he brought up or any content he made before, so I don't know if it's even real or not and he just lacks major self-awareness, but after seeing some people say they remember a few of the viral hits, it's not looking promising as he straight out just admits to having no story or narrative whatsoever to tell, he's just jumped on a trend that gets views and using pre-existing wealth and influence to inflate the production value, whilst still having no actual substance Which is a giant shame, because then it becomes incredibly obvious where all these random elements like pyramid head and a shadowy organization came from. There's no plot or story or answers behind them, they're just things that happen in unfiction narratives that are popular and that's the only reason why they show up here I did question where he got the budget to film in such a house and expensive locations for the success section of the channel, and its disappointing to learn that it's because he was literally just already successful and rich enough to create any content he wanted with virality material like supercars, penthouses, models and studios If all the humble-bragging at the end was sincere, then the entirety of Cut Dat and it's story was just 100% clout chasing and viral marketing and there is nothing creative or substantial in its elements that stand on their own if he didn't have a budget to inflate production value If this isn't supposed to be satirical, then it completely sucks and spells a disturbing future trend for unfiction content as viral influencers will move in on the market with profit and views as the motivation over any kind of story, creativity or artistic vision The "film hot girls do online challenges in a fancy studio as if it's high-art" bit feels like the unfortunate reality behind anything that happens in this series Things happen because it's a popular trend and it's interesting enough it might go viral, and he's rich enough to throw anything at the wall to see what sticks Online horror content as a creative indie medium is only going to face this more and more as success becomes mainstream. Its the double-edged sword of all indie content, but it's not usually this blatant

People are afraid of Pyramid Head, but I'm more worried about the red matter spoon. That shit could have created a black hole, and he used it to crack open a coconut! Also, the coconut scene reminds me of when Paul Gannon and Mister Biffo set off a cherry bomb in Biffo's filming room, after Biffo failed to realize that said bomb wasn't an indoor firework.

@@SisterRose Yup. You could say we're a rare breed, even though it could be argued that Mr Biffo's antics are an acquired taste. Though then again, it's probably more that Digitiser gets screwed over by the algorithm, since it's hardly what you can call "bad", just a little messy. It might not be million-subs material, but at the very least it should have a six-figure subcount, even if it doesn't break 200k. I imagine Biffo would be happy if he was actually able to break 100k. So if anyone here enjoys Ashensy content, or at least banter between a British bloke and his friends (and of course his wife Sanya), you could do a lot worse than check out his backlog. While sometimes he does a bunch of more talky videos, sometimes he messes around with dry ice, eats weird crisps with Ashens, talks about classic toys with Paul Gannon of Cheapshow, tries out corner shop goodies with Sanya, nearly blows himself with cherry bombs, dresses up as a nightmarish bean clown, etc. All sorts of weird stuff that ought to land him a spot in next year's Cabin Fever Dreams. If Nick's reading this, check out Digitiser's "Elephant Toothpaste" episode, where Paul and Stuart encounter the terrifying eldritch horror known as Beanus. That should fill up your weird quota if there's still room left in the tank.

When he kept talking about fame, I wondered if there was going to be a message about taking opportunities before you lose them. -But no, the whole segment was just him saying ‘I’m really rich’. I didn’t even end up understanding what his gig even was, and he kept making jabs that he would have surpassed other celebrities. That last 5 minutes feels so absurdly fantastical and uncanny that it HAS to be parody/satire. It's too perfect for one man to accomplish all that and still be a total nobody in the public eye. Notice how everything he's done is through pure chance and happenstance, just being in the perfect place at the perfect time and benefitting greatly just by being there and meeting that perfect person to make it all work out for him in the end. Doing all that doesn't come without reason, even if you are born into extreme wealth and privilege. All his stories are vague, without any notable name drops or events. When you live in a world like he is describing, you live and die by who you are associated with. That is the nature of clout and social status. So, to me, there is just no way any of what he said was real. I cannot buy that this guy exists as a real person, it has to be an extension of the "Cut Dat" story. The surreal absurdity of it all smacks of an unfiction storyline taking a metanarrative approach at social commentary. Or I'm totally off base and he actually is the luckiest, most privileged human being on the planet to be where he is in life, while also being the most punchable twat-waffle alive. Only time will tell if the story continues and we get more information about what is going on.

Usually with these Cabin Fever Dreams entries, even if it is strange and out there, there is this aura of horror with it still and there's still this care and effort put in, even if it ends up only being seen by 100 people and/or is just unfinished. This is legit not that. This is just some dude trying to make yet another viral hit to add to his portfolio and bank account and when it didn't continue to succeed for him, he dropped it like previous projects and went on to make another, repeating the process with either half assed ideas for attention or projects with some thought but not much care put into it. Him putting Pyramid Head of all things out of nowhere like that just cements this as just slapping spooky shit in for attention and not for story of any kind really. And the way this video goes about explaining with this, especially with that humblebrag reveal that Nick just... slides past and doesn't go into further, even saying to look forward to more from him? Considering the comments here, i think the opposite is happening for Michael here, and i will be joining on not supporting the dude's projects further if possible. I can appreciate work that is done out of love, care or just some dumb fun, but attention whoring for wealth and popularity is something i cant get behind and that is clearly what Cut Dat is, just doing something weird/strange for attention from the media and public to gain from, no actual care into making the content something of coherence or worth.

For everybody who thinks that the super rich character at the end is a real person at 18:03 the manhattan driver is reported as Alex Roy. Alex Roy is a 50 year old rally racer who also has set records for cross continent races like the one the spoon man claims he was a part of. The creator of cut dat is not real and is part of the story, that being a super rich man created chased trends on KZbin and is now bragging about his wealth. I believe this entire story is a reference to Alex Roy as he claimed to have set an incredible record which everyone believed. He then said that he made it up to show how little fact checking goes on online. This is probably why NM doesn’t explain this in the video. He is continuing the joke that Alex and then the spoon man made. Very Clever

This project had potential, but as usual rich folk don't put any soul into anything and just decide to throw budget at it to incorporate everything that is popular at the time. Would have been a lot better without them linking to their travelling vlogs and whatever and just leaving it as some obscure weird fever dream. But that might have added some soul to it, and not given them the vanity kick they were after.

For those confused about the intent from Nick --- It's pretty obvious this is one of Nicks "meta" videos. He takes the entire serious as earnest and genuine. He brushes off pyramid head being in the series... and he just over all glosses over it. He also says what essentially amounts to nothing about the series -- presenting it in a way that comes off as "endorsement" but never REALLY endorsing him. The fact that he lets the guys humblebrag "reveal" play out uncut and unnarrated is part of the shtick. Nick is a creative himself. Look no further than some of his more insane productions like the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared analysis. He likes to take the piss out of people occasionally too. I personally didn't like the video -- but that's the point guys. You weren't supposed to. Nick was sort of "making commentary" without making commentary. Just watch ANY videos from Nick and you'll see this is extremely out of character and production value. Basically - Nick is making a point by just presenting the video as earnestly as this guy was trying to be. Nick probably highly agrees with everyone about him being unlikable and the series being terrible with extremely unsatisfying plot threads. In a way he's also taking credit away from the guy by not analyzing the series in depth - instead reacting as any "popular" youtuber would. Sort of a reaction vid disguised as an "analysis vid" Even in the beginning of the video he talks about how this something "special" --- "One more hit" One more hit. Just watch the humblebrag video and you have all the context you need to understand what the point of this vid is. It's painful to get through because I guarantee you that it was painful for Nick LOL!

Yeah, I agree with others saying this project seems very soulless. There's no passion behind it, it's just straight up boring. Which is sad because I think it had a lot of potential. The pyramid head makes no sense either. "He's everywhere" yeah in memes, cosplays and such, not "ARGs". (Which I wouldn't even call this tbh) Nothing against you Night Mind, but directed at the creator.
