Used to hate snakes when I was growing up. Seemed to run into them all the time. But, it was hill country. When my wife and bought this little slice of heaven 40 years ago, we got acquainted with a veritable cornucopia, of slithering surprises. Not sure when the house was built, just know the neighbor's aunt was born in it, in 1898. It's two layers of 2 in thick plank, up to 25 in wide, stood vertically, covered with horizontal dutch lap. That, at some point was covered in insulbrick. The cellar, (not a basement, a cellar), has 2 ft thick stone walls with 13-14 in log sill and thick rough cut joists......and yes, snakes. Mostly garter, ring neck, and eastern ribbon snakes. But occasionally, what the previous owner referred to as fox snakes make an appearance. But they could be milk snakes. Not sure, but they are aggressive as all get out. I try to let them alone, but when they come after one of us, I take them out. I don't need them striking at me when I walk by the freezer, headed for a jar of peaches. And I don't want one of the grandkids, getting bit by somethjng that's gnawed on a dirty mouse. We also have 8 ft black snakes. Outside, as far as I know. But they are fairly mellow individuals. I leave them be. I don't think we have any of the poisonous varieties close around here, but I could be wrong.....wouldn't be the first time....today even. Anyway, I liked the video. Thanks for sharing.

My daughter and me were at Castroville City Park in Texas. We had walked along the river bank. I grew up around creeks that had water moccasins. But, that day on the way back to the car in the parking lot we passed right under a tree where 2 moccasins were mating. We didn't see them until we had already passed by. I had never seen any up in a tree before that day. My poor daughter. She just wanted to get back in the car asap.

I was in their territory, I don't bother them anymore, they have a right to their privacy as well.

As a woodworker I am in awe of all the nice size cherry trees. I realize you love the cherry wood for other things... but some of the other trees that wouldn't be good furniture lumber could be used as firewood. You'd be killing two birds with one stone; not only would you get your fallen trees cleaned up but you'd get paid for someone to do it for you. I’m glad to see another one of your videos, it’s been a long time since I commented on any of them. To me, it was kind of exciting to see the snakes, but not unexpected! I am up here in northeast Oklahoma, and snakes are part of the territory out in the country life. And when you’re living on a farm with a lot of trees, the one rule we have on the farm in the summer is: If you’re going anywhere out in the trees or messing with any wood: DON’T leave your house without the shotgun or at least snake shot in your handgun! Where you have wood, there will always be RATS, and where you have RATS will always be SNAKES. And we have a variety of venomous snakes out here… Pygmy rattlers, canebrake/timber rattlers, copperheads, and on occasion, water moccasins! I’ve even found myself one occasion being surrounded by venomous snakes, and not realizing it until it was almost too late! Now, I’m not gonna tell you what you need to do… you’ve lived on that land a lot longer than I have! I was just surprised that you were out there messing with those trees and timber without any protection!

It's so hot, but I need to put on my snake boots. And there is always a gun in the tractor ready to go.
