I painted a checkerboard table for my husband and grandson years ago. I embellished it with their favorite team colors and logos. Then I managed to find an old box of wooden checkers, original box, too. That was the icing on the cake for me. Fun project! I like yours, too. 🙂♟️

I prefer the wooden pull. It is a touch of rustic/masculine that balances the rice paper. I love this! Sanding down some of the side rice paper was genius!

Andy, Heywood-Wakefield are very much still in existence having made furniture following the times. Showing the quality of their furniture and the love put into it by the local people working from them. When they started, you could have found members of a whole family working for them. If you Google them you can see some of their mid century pieces going right back to much older pieces. You might even be able to get an idea of the age of your piece. Remember, anything over 100 yrs is considered an antique. I'm so glad you rescued it. I watch you from Northern Ireland, but missed some episodes, can't watch tv lying down when I'm unwell. Catching up. 🥰
