If anything, might as well ask parent to the babysitting for the child. Because they don't see a problem in justifying sister cheating on OP's ex-husband. That's said, they're fine it, they can take care of it. Scratch the parents. Ngl, their pettiness makes Mr. Crabs sounds more humane in terms of generosity.

@@anthony.morales6917 Mr. Crabs still willing to give spongebob a break and even helped him to regain his skill, though of course, that's because he needs him back evebtually. But there's that point of knowing he'll help him back. The parents? They have three kids, with two of them already working, and one married with a working spouse. If either one of them are unemployed, yeah, I can understand why they'll rather looked after themselves, but still they didn't, and using we need to save up for our retirement. They sound like those couples that were pressured to have kids, and when they did, they resented the kids for it. They went through the motions until the kids grew up and now that they're no longer obligated to do anything for their children, the parents always come up with convenient excuses to avoid it.

@@RandoWisLuL Similar thing happened with my SO and I ended up as a father. Sadly It took me at least 3 years to adapt to fatherhood. I was emotionally unavailable for 3 years because I never wanted a child but I respected my SO's decision but adapting took time. The little one is happy with me now though, I'm his best friend and we even play minecraft together, he's 7 now. I even asked if he'd be happier if a richer and kinder person offered to be his dad and would play with him all day every day, if he'd take it, he said "NO! because you're my father and my best friend". Made my heart melt, though it won't bring those 3 lost years back, could've been a better father than I was.

Both the OP and ex had different goals in life, but the ex instead of being an adult and not getting married or a divorce, decides to cheat. Dude wanted the lifestyle the OP could provide. The gall of the two telling the OP to stay out of their business, it is her business when they're cheating. Caleb calling the OP; I would've just said "It's none of my business..." and the parents insisting on the OP helping, they are going to get cut out too. By the way you talk, it seems that you don't know that the younger the kid the harder it is to take care of them. Older kids are easier to take care of. And even if it's true that some mothers did it, all situations are different and there are multiple factors your nor considering. To name two: work hours, age of the kid and area of living. If the child is old enough to go to school, than things are way easier than having a small child you don't know where to leave

Some days it's hard, some days it's very easy and some days you just wish to pack your bags and disappear but you don't bcs your child needs you. The OP doesn't want to deal with his child. See, this is the kind of shit that pisses me off about parents. They feel like just because they are family, once enough time passes all things should be forgiven. Like, no. If it had been some stranger who'd shagged her husband, they'd say to turn him down. But because it was their other daughter who did so, they're like 'you should forgive and forget.' If THEY want to forgive her, that's fine. But don't guilt trip her into forgiving when she was the victim here, and now she wants nothing to do with the people who gave her issues she's STILL recovering from.

Op was career oriented and made it clear to him from the get go. He had the choice he could’ve just left her instead of marrying her and then cheating on her if he really wanted kids that much. Seems to me that the ex was a gold digger who wanted the lifestyle that op provided while also disrespecting her wishes and ultimately cheating on her. Me: why did he marry op if he was that into the Alyssa? Op: "I make more money than Caleb and was supporting us financially over the years-" THERE IT IS. Using the wife to live a comfy lifestyle while getting to enjoy a girlfriend on the side when she was too busy with work. He sounds stupid. He shouldn't have married op just based on the hope she'd change her mind about kids. I'll also never understand why people think a child makes it okay to brush bad history under the rug. Alyssa never even apologized. Neither did Caleb. They don't have any rights to ask op, the betrayed ex-spouse, to look after the product of their relationship. "It's none of my business, remember?" Is the only appropriate non-aggressive response here. Op's parents are stupid too. If they want nothing to do with Alyssa's child they should just say so. I was honestly expecting caleb to beg op to take him back or cheat once he got fed up of having to work so hard, remembering how easy life was when he had op supporting him and was childfree.

My favorite sentence to parents who say they can’t contribute money, but really they can: “Do you realize you’re becoming more valuable to me dead than alive?” It can be said like a threat, but it can also be said and understood as disappointment with the right intonation because while most people like getting money, also most people would trade their inheritance for the life of their parents without a second thought.

The cheating and betrayal was bad enough, but the pure contempt of telling her it wasn’t even her “business”… wow. It wouldn’t matter if it had been 3 years or 30. I’d never forgive something like that.

Stuff like this is one of the many reasons why you don't do that to family or friends. You burn that bridge so bad that it's very hard, if not impossible, to go back

Some people's audacity is incredible... it's like: "I tortured you, I unalived your kids and pets... but... HOLD UP! YOU CAN'T BE MAD! WE'RE FAMILY!" "It's been years since I tortured you and unalived your kids... YOU'RE STILL MAD? WHY CAN'T YOU JUST GET OVER IT? WE ARE FAMILY!" Like the audacity to play the family card after you betrayed your sibling in one of the worst possible ways. I think if I just have 10% of their shamelessness, I'll be successful in life.

Parent's probably never cut the sister off at all, they probably just kept in contact while making sure the other two children were kept out of the loop. It also sounds like the parents are afraid of confrontation and responsibility and worst of all, self-righteously self-centered the worst of all combinations to be stuck dealing with as another person and especially as an adult child of said people.

Question for op, I know you said brother is helping by giving money. But how? Is it direct money to the daycare or to them? If it's to them how does he know if 1. The whole need money story is true? Are they real useing the money for help or luxury? Why not get temporary custody of nephew( and while in his custody, you get to know him) until they can prove to him that they can care for him?

I absolutely understand wanting to aid with the nephew. So what you do, if you end up deciding to help, is have a lawyer draft up a binding agreement that details the amount lended, the timeline for payng back as well as acceptable options for to go about that(method of payment, incremental minimums, etc). You tage on specifics of compensation should their end of the bargain not be agreed to as well as reasonable grounds for termination of contract should you for whatever SPECIFIC reason detailed in the document you give. This is to at least approach it in good faith by accepting your own accountability, but make no mistake its about their accountability. If they want your help or need your help, they will sign it. If they make a stink about it, then you reiterate that they have given you no reasonable grounds to believe you could trust them at their word. In short, you powerplay the hell out of it. And if you want to be really petty, you tack on interest of loan to a reasonable amount after a certain period of reasonable expectation of repayment. Of they drag their feet, you can sue, or you can sell off the debt to a collection agency that will forever hound them for their debt. Just dont loan more than you are willing toose and kts definitely the long con... but it can work. Also check in on your nephew. His parents are garbage and there is a good chance that if he grows up aware of you he will be generally more emoathetic. Thats bot a sure case, but you can usually tell how the morals of a child will be molded by adolescence. There is always room to change that, but at that point, you get to decide if you want to stay kn that train or get off

Like, if you are going to be wimps about it, then at the bare minimum they should have said that if she wants help from the bro, they both needed to send a heartfelt apology to op, acknowledging all the wrong they had done. Like thats nothing, swallow your pride a bit and accept you were both horribly in the wrong, get the money you need to care for your family. prove your are better people than you were

Nobody else can or wants to take care of OPs sister and baby, but for some reason, OP is the bad guy despite having the most valid reasons to not want to pack her stuff up, take time off work and take care of her trifling sister and her fair baby who also happens to be her trifling ex husband's baby.

"You are being selfish and stubborn." Yes, and there is nothing wrong with that. Women catch so much crap for standing up for themselves. OP is single and childless, and therefore expected to gove up time and money to help everyone. I get there was a time, when the old maid sister lived at home, still being supported by the parents, and was shuffled off to whatever family member was ailing and in need of assistance. But, when you have a job and a home of your own, that expectation is moot. It isn't expected of a man in the same situation. It should not be expected of a woman.
