Cut Square and Odd Shaped Glass Bottles (Using a Soldering Iron)

Have you ever wanted to cut a square bottle, or some other non-circular shaped bottle? I've found a way to do it without a cutting wheel. It uses a technique that is similar to the one I used in my previous bottle cutting video.

I did it to a Jack Daniel’s this evenng. It was fun, except for starting; it wouldn’t. I got ice to cool it. After a while of that, a piece jumped off the top. I started from there and it all came out well. Thanks.

It can be frustrating trying to get a thick bottle to start with this method, I've had that happen with me too. I'm glad it worked out for you in the end.

Maybe I missed this but is your score line only about 1-2” or do you score all the way around?

That's a really good question. It's only about an inch or two. The interesting thing about this technique is that once the crack is started, it will follow the soldering iron tip, even if there isn't a score line to follow. The score line is necessary to start the crack though.

Thanks for the comment! A little tip here, bottles with thin glass are easier with this method than thick glass. I hope this is helpful!

Any tips on doing this with a Patrone bottle? It is very thick.

I think that's thicker than what I've ever tried. I would recommend practicing on thinner bottles (like soda bottles or beer bottles) to get familiar with the process and learn what to look for to get it to work.

Hello, Sir. i would like to ask more details about this technique. Is it possible only using Soldering Iron to cut the bottle without the score cut? I have a 30 W Soldering iron at home , which it said can reach around 410 Celsius or 770 Fahrenheit. Is it hot enough? Thank you. Look forward to hear you soon.

The soldering iron I used is 30 Watts. You do need to start with a score line. And something I didn't mention in the video, thick glass is still possible, but harder to get started. Especially if it's not clear glass.

It should work on a triangle bottle. It may be difficult going around the corners, depending on how thick the glass is at the corners. I recommend practicing on thin bottles to get a feel for the process.

+alain yap yes, it should work for flask shaped bottles. Try it out and let us know! One thing I didn't mention in the video, make sure the tip of the soldering iron is clean.
