As always, another great video. A small note: 2.4Ghz will have a longer range with more stable connection that can penetrate walls better than 5Ghz. As long as you are getting a solid connection and not losing packets/connection, the 5Ghz is faster but can have some range/stability issues due to the frequency itself.

That's a great idea. I've tried wifi repeaters to get internet to my shop. Metal building just won't let wifi through the walls. So I ran a hard wire from the router in the house underground to the shop. Then a repeater inside the shop to connect the machine shop to the CNC shop. Still didn't work, another steel wall between them. So a switch and another hardwire to the CNC shop. Now I have a wifi router in the CNC shop. Now I can connect to the home internet finally. Now the problem is the internet connection runs at 5Mbits on a really good day we average about 3Mb. I want to see how the USB to wifi works out. Thanks for the video.

If you are using CAT5 Ethernet cable, you are maxed out at 100 meters (328 ft). You should be able to run 1Gb on that. If your length is longer you are likely getting too many errors, causing slowdown.

You'll still have potential issues with this setup because the controller is still using UDP to send data, not TCP, and neither the UDP protocol or Ruida devices have a retry mechanism when a packet fails to send. The LightBurn Bridge uses TCP to connect from the PC to the Bridge, then a short cable connection between the Bridge and the laser, so if a packet does drop, it gets re-sent. A normal WIFI bridge doesn't do this.

@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy It might be ok depending on your environment. The more devices competing for bandwidth in your area, the more likely you are to have a broadcast packet collision, and that'll cause a drop. Longer jobs will be much more likely to have issues than short ones.

Another option... of configuration if you dont have 2 ethernet ports and your router is close enough to your laser... run ethernet cable from laser to router, and you will be using the wifi from your pc to connect to the home network which is now connected to the laser, or you can keep your ethernet connection to your pc if you have it that way. THIS INFORMATION IS NOT CORRECT FOR A LASER WITH THE RUIDA CONTROL AND APPLE MAC COMPUTERS SHOULD NOT USE THE USB PORT PER LIGHT BURN DEVELOPERS AND CORPORATION. UDP enables process-to-process communication, while TCP supports host-to-host communication. TCP sends individual packets and is considered a reliable transport medium. On the other hand, UDP sends messages, called datagrams, and is considered a best-effort mode of communications. This means UDP doesn't provide any guarantees that the data will be delivered or offer special features to retransmit lost or corrupted messages. THIS IS DIRECTLY FROM THE LIGHT BURN MANUAL. LightBurn Bridge The LightBurn Bridge was created by LightBurn to get around some of the limitations of Ruida controllers. Ruida uses the UDP network protocol, which does not guarantee data transmission, and is therefore not reliable enough to use over WIFI. Many computers no longer have a network port, and running a network cable is often impractical or cumbersome. In addition, Apple's device driver for the USB connection to the Ruida has issues that often cause data loss. The LightBurn Bridge overcomes all of this. It's a Raspberry Pi running software created by LightBurn to act as a relay between your PC and laser. You connect to it using TCP, so the commands are reliably sent even over WIFI. The Bridge forwards the commands to the controller using a short network cable, and relays responses back to your computer. The LightBurn Bridge is simple to configure, requires no drivers, and typically sends data 50% to 100% faster than a USB connection. It looks like this:

Agreed, but it works just fine as it is. Ethernet is the best connection.
@darlalynw
@darlalynw 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy It may work from you can see however, you are not seeing what packets or information is being dropped. From a proper networking prospective if one device talks in UDP and the other in TCP they do not speak the same language so you would not connect them for reliable transmission. When a company that develops the technology (laser burn) says it is not reliable and other connection types should be used. Those recommendations are what MUST be followed as they have the educated and trained staff to set those requirements. Especially when it comes to Mac users. You ALWAYS need to specify for PC and/or MAC as theses setting could be different and need to be set up different since the software supports both but the laser itself only supports the PC. Providing the correct and proper TECHNICAL information prevents wasted time and misinformation to the end user. DLP IMAGES MCSE, CCNA, CISSP
