It breaks my heart to know that I’m the reason my “one that got away” got away. I pushed her away to keep her safe, but ended up hurting her anyway. I didn’t want to expose her to my world even though I wanted her in it. I always ask, would you let someone you care about walk down a path KNOWING there are snakes everywhere?, or would you do everything you could to make sure they didn’t go down that path. What I didn’t realize is that she knew about the “snakes” and was willing to walk with me to help look out for them. We as men forget sometimes that we don’t always need to protect woman. If they want to walk through fire just because you are or because you’re on the other side then let her do it and then when she gets across never make her do it again. I wanted to keep her safe and she just wanted to be with me.
