For people struggling, I really only push the lighter lightly into the webbing of my hand before I push off with my middle finger, and instead of half the lighter sticking out above the webbing, I really only have the bottom corner against my hand. The rest of the lighter is visible besides the bottom corner. I don't have a super firm grip on the lighter because it creates too much mechanic resistance to start the necessary rotation. It just sits gently in the webbing of my thumb and then I abruptly push with my middle finger to get the rotation. Hope this helps.

it is easier when using a lighter that has been scuffed some or one with a textured coating. if your Zip is slick new chrome or whatever it is much more difficult. even raw brass cases are much easier to manipulate.

@ParanoeX You don't have to push "that" hard . When you put the zippo in position, put it only the "half" of the zippo in your hand. Not sure if i'm understandable. This way , the zippo will "pop-out" easier.

sorry for a reply on a 2 year old comment. but when internet is on on your phone or computer. its actualy listening through your microphone and picking up things to recommend or give ads by. this has been proven. if you keep talking about dog toys and you don't even have a dog, you will be getting ads for dog toys. and similar youtube recommends. i noticed i got ads for new chairs, when i kept complaining to my mom that my chair is broken. and that i might need a new chair. to sit on. its some kind of bot that picks up words. and gives ads based on that. without you knowing.

Is it just me that can't do this? When I squeeze I just injure my hand. I sometimes get it but mostly the pressure ends up hurting my hand and I have to leave it a couple of days before trying again. I feel like it might be because my hands are big but not much flesh on them. Every way I hold it feels like the lighter is digging into me.

@JBurneo I can do it now. Try using the other hand. I am left handed and can only do the trick with my right hand. Even though I do ALL the other tricks with my left. Maybe I over think it in my left hand cause I am used to using my left hand for dexterity? Therefore it doesn't work cause I don't actually know how to do it. But in my right hand my hand does something SLIGHTLY different to what I am trying to make it do. Hard to explain, just try it with the other hand.

It hurt my hand at first but it helps to push out a little bit with your thumb and pointer. That keeps the lighter from just digging in to that tender part of your hand and helps it start spinning. it felt pretty natural natural after that.
