Pretty cool, my grandfather served in ww2 with the US Army 4th armored division, and was a smoker too so I'm sure he had one of these. He landed on Normandy a month after D-day and went on to liberate bastogne , during this time he took a bullet through his helmet just barely missing his head and I'm told this is why he had some hearing loss. This was likely not the only cause, but is the one of the only stories I know of his time in the war. The other being an incident where he met a guy on a train, they started drinking together and he woke up in Paris Paris France He later went on to open up a bar in France with his brother before he was shipped back home. I would love to be able to have the German pistol and bayonet he brought back, but those disappeared long ago. He was such a great interesting man and I'm thankful to have his toolbox and some of his tools, but sadly he died when I was 7. at least he was putting up a flag pole when it happened. I find it fitting for a ww2 veteran to have died installing a homemade flag pole so he could fly the flag which he had fought to protect so many years ago.

Story I had heard from a serviceman, was that they went over to the fuel barrels, and dipped their lighters in those to fill them. He preferred the aircraft fuel, as it lit his smokes with the least objectionable taste.

i really like this! Also, my great grandfather had a trench lighter, and he was in world war 2! My mom passed the trench lighter down to me, and I am extremely happy to have it! Mine is a Sure Fire with the logo imprinted on the sides. Also, it works perfectly, and is not missing anything! I also am able to get it to spark with its ORIGINAL flint, and it still has a good wick! All it needs is lighter fluid. I am very happy to own this lighter, and will take very good care of it!
@HometownWoodsman

what you said at the end about the story behind the lighter is exactly the way i feel and its what keeps me collecting stuff like this. recently i found a ww1 era trench art bullet knife that is basically a round of rifle ammo that had the bullet taken out and pocket knife blade jammed into the projectile then placed back into the casing. its so cool to think about the story behind something like that. was it a little time killing project someone did while they were stuck in the trench for weeks or months at a time. or could it have been some sly soldiers idea of a last ditch weapon to save his life if hes captured. i chase the mysteries with every piece i add to my collecting and in most cases we look at something and we know exactly what it was, but we will never know what it meant to the person who carried it, and that's the part that chills me to the bone.

My grandfather served in WW2 and they used these, still have a couple. Also have a couple reproductions (me and my father used to do historical re enactment). They're good lighters, original zippos. You're right about them having to refill the lighters frequently but a fun history fact is that it wouldn't hassle them too much because they used to just use the fuel from the vehicles or aircraft to do it!

Thanks for the review Jeff :) I've never heard of a lighter like this before, it's very cool, I want one myself now :P and I find this lighter looks a little similar to the imco lighter witch I find pretty cool too, I love ww2 stuff, especially ww2 lighters, love them hope to get one myself :P like the 41 black crackle zippo, I think that's a pretty cool lighter. But anyway thanks again for the review and I think it would be pretty cool if you can do more reviews on ww2 stuff like ww2 knifes and daggers, bayonets and lighters :P.

Say Heah, They also gave similar ration lighters during the war, I have two brand new ones one I did just to see how it worked, mine are also aluminum a simple looking lighter but Heah it lights up what ever you want to smoke. I'm a cigar smoker so I prefer butane instead of Zippo fluid. Mine look's a little plainer looking maybe it's because it doesn't have any burnt patina it's a bright clean aluminum.

If it's anything like the imco lighters it doesn't lose fluid nearly as fast as a zippo. My imco (which lights 10 cancer sticks a day) only needs fluid once a fortnight.

I've got a few of those decks of cards, and they're pretty disappointing. Firstly, it makes no sense at all for Bicycle to do a 130th anniversary deck, when they JUST did an anni, deck for their 125th. THAT deck even feature retro faces in addition to the box and backs. THIS deck, however, just has the retro box and backs, but mordern faces. Annoying as, I think. Sorry about the rant, Jeff, but I heard you collect playing cards as well, and thought I'd share my thoughts and that particular deck. Really looking forward to seeing the video on your collection! If you're interest in trading or buying any decks (like the aforementioned 125th Anni. deck), send me a PM.
