Its apathy, I canvassed and doorstepped and spoke to people and so many of them just can't be arsed. "They're all the same" "nothing will change". Its very difficult to get people engaged when everything they see is negative. We were all sick when Labour lost Lancashire, people just didn't get out and vote.
@zacf9917 жыл бұрын
this is so fucking true. From what I see in the London suburbs people agree with Labour policies but think they'll never do it so might as well just vote Conservatives.

@mgrimble39757 жыл бұрын
It's, not accidental, they want people to feel this way. It's how parties of the establishment survive. "They are all just as bad as each other" message that won trump the white house. Hillary was pretty shit tbh, everyone on the left told them as much in the primary. But she was in no way comparable to trump. The media use polls as a tool to lower expectation, making sure that everyone in the media says your choice is a loser, you are somehow weird for not picking May because she's so popular, Corbyn is portrayed as extreme/radical to infer a warning - he may be dangerous, your weird if you like him despite the fact he's anything but. For example, in the video they use from the public, you don't know how long they were there, how many people they asked, which parts of the town they were in, whether or not they even started putting the balls in the anti Corbyn box themselves to reinforced the message that your not normal, it's all hopeless and you should stay home. The Tories like all parties on the right rely on very low turnout from people who would oppose them, the young and the poor, and high turnout from those who are likely to support them. The rich and the old. As you say once apathy kicks in its hard to turn around. I fear if the torys gain a landslide in this election we will lose an entire generation of voters to non-engagement as they have been abandoned by the public. Even making voting mandatory I don't think would make much difference, as people just don't think about what they're doing. Like the old guy, hates the cuts, usually, votes labour and yet is voting Conservative because Corbyn doesn't look smart. That is so stupid it almost makes my head hurt lol. Maybe since there is a minimum age requirement to voting, there should be a maximum age too :D.

I'm no Tory but the library thing is a dinosaur in the age of the Kindle, iPad and boot sale apps. And the demand is there it should be commercially viable. Money could be better spent on digital book vouchers than on heating a big building and hiring someone to administer the books. So with an alternative being provided there is an argument for a genuine economy. I wonder though if Amazon requested that libraries get closed down? Unlikely but they should be the clear winner from this type of cut. Anyway, closing childcare does seem like a genuine FALSE economy.

By actually enforcing tax legislation so multinational companies like Google and Starbucks actually pay the billions of pounds they owe for doing business here? By reforming and regulating the financial sector so executives and management can't skim the cream from the top? By investing in large national infrastructure projects and manufacturing concerns so that we can actually improve, diversify, and better profit from our economy?
@way2tehdawn7 жыл бұрын
So you're saying... - Launch legal challenge against a slew of huge multinationals. - Introduce legislation to curb bonuses. - Subsidise industry. How do we pay for this? I agree with making big international companies pay their fair share. Regulating finance could prove troublesome, during the bailout a lot of money was promised to bankers even though they failed. The idea behind them was to keep them in Britain rather than taking their skills abroad, I personally say fuck em' let em' leave but that was the labour line in 09'. Jeremy Corbyn is actually going after corporate tax relief in an effort to reduce how much the treasury spends on it, so I don't think we'll see much investment. The other alternative is borrowing which we can't do while were in the EU due to their regulations of deficits. We do need to diversify. Lets also not forget that the labour party want to renationalise a whole slew of firms (which I agree with to some extent.) and buy/build a load of houses to give away at no cost. I wouldn't worry though, we will see. I think Jeremy Corbyn is going to win, I don't think populism can be stopped at this point. The current system is not working so people will latch on to any hope they can get. Personally I'm more cynical, I think we will just gradually decline or improve but accept a lower standard of living creating cheap goods for little pay.

Labour councils having to implement cuts to local government imposed by the Conservative government are getting the blame (clever of the Tories) and Conservative cuts are falling more heavily on Labour areas (clever of Tories). As the Conservatives have replaced Labour here, now the responsibility for cuts will be seen in their true colours and in the light of that experience there is a chance for voters to vote again on June 8th 2017. There is loads of charities that help communities out with these kind of projects. The community it's self gave raised about £1400 but it needs about £50,000. The community understands our councils have no money do are working hard to find other places that can help fundraise.

Good. That's great to hear - genuinely. Now look at Venezuela if you want to see what a Corbyn government will create and ask yourself, will I, the kids, my dad and my husband be better off? I admire your faith, because that's what it is. Britain certainly needs a better distribution of its wealth. That's why I have voted labour at most elections. But just as in 83 I could not vote for a party dominated by young violent Militant members, I can't vote for them now as the young 20 something militants of my youth are now the 50 something members of Momentum. Labour has always been a broad church, not a socialist party.
@lisa1cares7 жыл бұрын
Seriously first you make a ridiculous judgement about "where's the father" the. Through in other countries.... I could point out loads of good left countries look at Portugal they threw out the right because of austerity and now they have a coalition left wing government and things are starting to improve.
@VaucluseVanguard7 жыл бұрын
I asked an admittedly loaded question because I had not understood what you said at one point in the short video. However, I will stick by my point and the judgement you thought I made. My father was a NHS administrator from the time it was created until he retired in the early 1990s. I have worked in health care since for over 35 years and I have two sisters who have also done so and have two daughters who are social workers working in in adult disability and mental health. Three generations of us. And across that 70 years of experience what have we seen? More people abusing the system, more people with an entitled attitude and more people blaming everyone except themselves for their predicament. And I stand by my 'judgment' about men who do not support their children and women who don't want men in their lives when they have kids, but expect the state to foot the bill. These people were once a small number of whom social services would deal with. Now, it's just the norm. And yes I personally have known dozens of men who have children with not the slightest intention of supporting them and known dozens of women who have chosen to have children knowing they would have to have state support to bring them up. If you think that is moral and right, well you needn't ask why there is a real possibility that Theresa May will be the first PM to lead a party that gets over 50% of the electorate since 1935. Your dad's disabled, he deserves help. When you have work in the system and have seen the levels of waste, exploitation and an corrupt and corrupting attitude of "f**k everyone else I'm entitled to this' that is not confined to a tiny minority but perhaps 15% of those who you deal with every day, you soon get jaded.
