Great work!! Wish I had half the tools this man has. I’m torn between the 16” SkilSaw and the 16” Makita circular saw. I love Makita, but that SkilSaw cuts beautifully

Hey Chris! I’ve enjoyed your videos for years. Thanks for sharing this latest build. Tip to offer you on the large or even small beam cuts. I always carried a block of beeswax in my bags. Just press on the hot blade occasionally to reduce friction and potential blade warp. Flip T

A lot of work no doubt. The finished product was well worth your effort. 👍

This is a prime example of "how bad do i want this?" lol. My wife have these discussions. If something is going to be a lot of extra work or cost and you're going to see it every day. If you're going to look at it every time and say "I wish I'd done the extra work back then." then you'd better knuckle down and do it. I think i'd have not done the extra work in this case and just left those collar ties straight BUT this is not my dream home. good on you. I't s gonna be epic.

How far is that extension cord running? You may need a heavier cord to carry enough amps over that distance for the big saw to make deep cuts.

Well done. Who has all the tools they need for every job anyway? My whole life has been trying to complete the job at hand with the tools I have.

Would a half-lap dovetail work for this? It seems like it would resist the splay.

Besides Izzy Swann, I've seen guys from six other countries do this kind of curved cut and NONE of them used a combination of three power saws. Most used some form of electric or gas powered chain saw that they built a fence for, planers (hand and powered) hand planes, and chisels. If ya gotem usem, right? Oh, and one used axes and hand hewed them all.

Have you ever tried doing this using a kerf cutting technique? Make a series of shallow cuts with your circular saw across the width, then breaking out the chunks with a chisel, and smoothing out the curve. Idk if it would be easier or faster, but it seems like you’d at least avoid the problem of having the cuts from both sides not quite lining up in the middle.

Use a router or use a blades width small kerf 🤔? This is not meant for load supporting beams. Maybe a plywood sheet so it bends around your dope round framing.
@jerrodbates84802 ай бұрын
That might be even more excruciating. You would have to adjust the depth of your saw almost every cut or so to match the arch. But maybe end up saving time in all the plaining and sanding doing it the other way?

@@hanselito2416 I’ve used a router for cutting notches into posts on a pole barn and I personally hated that approach because of the huge mess. Small wood shavings everywhere and it didn’t seem to save any time. I also didn’t like having the router bit sticking out so far because it felt really dangerous.

You need a compass planer. They are not that expensive. Will make a quick job of cleaning up those curves.
@brandonbennett1272 ай бұрын
Those are small and would take forever. All you need is that power planer and belt sander.
