@@geoffrey6000 because you can grip the wood and not slip as with shoes. Also with a heavy axe that sharp no footwear is going to stop a nasty wound if you don't get it right! I'm just trying to find a video I saw that explains it, I'll send the link.

Ideally, you pull a chalk line up 2 inches at the most. Any higher than that your line will be off.
