Car chassis aren’t typically built using that method because that method would weaken the chassis. All of the bends would be bent by bending the pieces of material
@jgetscensored7837
@jgetscensored7837 2 жыл бұрын
@@xbear7473 I can’t speak in certainty, but I’d imagine somewhere in history, there were cars built this way. But as for weakening the material, I wouldn’t think so. That’s how modern day race car chassis and roll cages are built. (But with tubing, not square material)
@bryceprimary2024
@bryceprimary2024 2 жыл бұрын
@@jgetscensored7837 tube is used but the joint construction is designed so that the stresses of the joints are directed straight into the other tubes and not into the joint itself. With a design like this it should only be used in non-structural applications. As opposed to having no weld joints with bending or potentially just 1 or 2 welds with this method you’re adding over 30 welded joints that cannot fail and with something like a chassis in mind the forces will be applied directly to these weld joints.

@@jgetscensored7837 the difference is one piece being cut a bunch of times then welded together to form a bend then roll cages for example is like a bunch a separate pieces of round steel being welding together to make something which is very strong

Pipe implies something is hollow not that its round. Round pipes are round, but round isn't what pipe means. Tube is another term not THE term
@TNTThemes
@TNTThemes Жыл бұрын
@@whitehuayra It's not technically wrong, but pipe is not the proper term. I work in the chemical industry, and we use both in our plant. It's important to use the correct term for stuff like this to minimize confusion. With rectangular tubing, its not a big of a deal to call it pipe because rectangular pipe doesn't exist or is really really uncommon, so worst case you would probably just get corrected on the correct word. But if you mix up 1" round SS tubing with 1" SS pipe when ordering a part for example, you will end up with completely wrong dimensions.

@WungusBill That tube probably costs more than the tiny amount of welding wire and gas that would end up being wasted. If you’re going to do a demonstration like this stop being a lazy ass and actually show proper welding techniques. Chances are people might actually use this for something. They might think the tack welds are strong enough to hold it.

In this case, the sum of the angles of the wedges cut out will equal the total bend. But since the inside angle you want is 30 degrees, the bend you put in the pipe is 180-30 degrees=150 degrees. Divide that by the number of wedges you want and you get the wedge angle. A wedge equals two angled cuts, so divide that by two to get the angle from the perpendicular on each half of the wedge.

He would have to do 10 slots at +- 7.5 degrees (or 15 slots at +- 5 degrees to eliminate fractional angles) for the first one and 5 slots at +-9 degrees for the last one.
