Thankyou so much. I have watched hundreds of video's on cutting dogs nails and not one person explained about looking for the quick underneath the nail.My labs had a bad experience and wouldn't let anyone cut their nails. I've always been doing in from the front and not tipping the paw back like that and it was impossible. The nails were really really long and I was taking a millimeter off every week. UNTIL TODAY. I've watched your video and done it exactly like you did and my dogs now have lovely short nails all done in 5 minutes.I was so scared of cutting the quick before but by looking underneath I just kept cutting with confidence until I saw the small black circle.I can't tell you how grateful I am and so is my dogs. Because they had a confides relaxed mum, they were relaxed too. AMAZING VIDEO AND LADY. THANKYOU.

Here's how I do it? I clip the OUTER PART of the nails bit by bit. I ensure that the mid part of the nails protudes. It shows me the QUICK. I exactly now know how much of the nail I can cut. It will look Ugly but since I clip the nail really bity by bit, I always get to see the QUICK. PLUS I touch the nail in the mid part to see if it's soft after every clip. Moment I feel the mid part of nail is soft, I stop. This technique is like cutting away at the pencil using a blade without touching the lead. Get it.

I just used your video to help guide me in trimming my 16 year old toy poodle's nails. They get trimmed when she goes to the groomer, but since her fur is really curly, I can usually put off going to only about 3 times a year. I noticed lately that her nails have grown really long, but I was so scared to cut them myself. I used to when she was a puppy, but I cut one nail too short once and she yelped and I freaked out... needless to say I haven't attempted to try again for the last 14ish years. Tonight she just layed very calm and I made sure I didn't allow her to pull away. We did just fine and her nails are much shorter. I'm sure I could have trimmed even more, but this was a good and positive first re-attempt for both of us, so I left well enough alone. I think I will come back tomorrow and file them as well. Thank you for your video and the confidence I needed to give it a go... even after all these years!

I recently adopted a 12-year-old collie-sized dog and her nails are longer than they should be. So, I just finished watching about 10 different videos that all said they were showing how to trim nails. Thank God I finally found yours. It's the only one that really taught me anything. Now that I know exactly what to look for I'm confident that I'll have her walking more comfortably very soon. Great job! Thanks.

My dogs about to turn 7 and I still don’t know how to clip them. I witnessed someone cut another dogs nails and the dog started bleeding everywhere and crying. After witnessing that when I was 10 years old to this day as an adult I’m scared of cutting nails. I clip just the part that I’m 100 sure the super white part. I’m too scared. But his nails seem so long and make noise when he runs so I feel they should be shorter but I’m scared to cut him. So if I’m not very sure I leave it alone. Idk.

Some of these comments are very ignorant. I'd rather have a slightly quicked nail, than deformed paw joints, arthritis, and any other issues that stem from overgrown nails. Anyone not in agreement needs to Google digitigrades, because that's what dogs are, and it is important to their overall health to have good posture via short nails. This video is probably one of the best I've seen that explains the process, and you really do show compassion with your demonstration.

It's so frustrating to not be able to do something that seems so simple. I'm going to try doing multiple cuts per nail slowly like you do instead of one big, fast clip per nail to get it over with.

I have two Pekingese and nails are a constant issue... The pet groomer that trimmed them must have really hurt them because the shiver when i bring a clipper close to them.. I have now resorted to filing down the nails instead of clipping... They still don't like it but at least i can get the nails shorter... So i file them down until i see the round part in the middle, but as soon as i get there , the start pulling away... its as if its very sensitive for them... im trying to get the kwik back , but its a mission....

I just hate seeing dogs legs pulled up, but that's just me, I've always had good enough dogs ( so far) that they've just lay down as part of their grooming and got their nails done that way, I would have thought she would have mentioned if you have a larger breed , small too actually if they are overly long support the toe , the chunkier the nail the more so, my boy has chunky toes he's not keen on his feet done but let's me, if I don't support his toe he feels it more, plus he has a few toes that aren't very straight , he will pull his foot back of I don't position it right. Never take too much off at one clip , it's better to take smaller bits off until your at the quick . His mum hated her nails done after the vet made her bleed on every foot, she had arthritis too you had to take care . One of the better videos I've seen though .

@@MiaMore. Umm Hello? Did I not say that cut to the quick is painful????? Umm yes, I most certainly did!! If you have ever done a dog's nails. You would know that for the dog being clipped. Quickly if you can see the vain. Dog's don't like to have their feet restrained. When I do my 7 poddles nails, I go as quickly as I can, but I'm not standing there every day all day clipping dog's. If I'm not 100% sure were the vain is I will just file them. To NOT keeping your dogs short enough causes much more pain! A dog walks on it's feet. Which means that if you don't get them short enough the dog isn't walking on their pad, like God intended. They are are walking on their nails. That means that that their nail is being shoved INTO the quick of the nail and the into the pads. Have you ever had something shove your nails into the quick of your fingers or toes??? Then have you have had to walk and run over and over. That crap HURTS. Oh and much like older adults that aren't able to clip their own toenails. The nail will end up twisting, turning, and digging the pade of their toes. That is exactly what they will do. Since a lot of people won't cut their dogs nails it is important to have them clipped by a groomer or vet's is so important to keep that from happening.
@MiaMore.
@MiaMore. 5 жыл бұрын
@@anitraduke3616 "Umm Hello?" to you because your response did not make any sense in correlation to mine. You were talkin about clipping a nail to a point where bleeds and hurts and what I'm saying is that even if it's not bleeding when you cut too low it still hurts the dog just like it hurts a human when you cut too low on your nail even when it does not bleed. I have been a dog owner along with many different pets my entire life and am very familiar with clipping many species' nails from K9 to Avian. I am more than aware of the importance of keeping your dog's nails groomed and I've always done it myself since being very young and never had to go to a vet nor a groomer to have it done but thank you for your rant.
