Don't get me wrong, I really want to buy the Dreame X40 and I'm willing to pay that much money for the best out there but quite frankly for some people, which unfortunately includes me, there is a design flaw so massive that I just can't bring myself to choose this over the Roborock s8 MaxV Ultra even though I really want to. Ironically the video playing in the background of your very enthusiastic conclusion says it all at time index 32:57 and then 33:27. At 32:57 you see it cleaning a fully carpeted room where on carpets the X40 designers for some reason decided to disable the side brush completely so you can clearly see that it isn't spinning. Then at 33:27 you see just what that stupid design decision denies people who have any fully carpeted rooms. So Dreame think that it's important to give great edge and corner cleaning on hard floors but that people with fully carpeted rooms don't want the edges and corners of those rooms cleaned properly? If Dreame fix this issue - maybe allow users to say on a per-room or per-area basis that they have low pile carpets that won't tangle the side brush - then I'd buy the X40 in a heartbeat but as it is now it's a hard pass from me.

I noticed it too, and it's a huge minus that the brush doesn't work on carpets. many people began to notice this in the reviews. I hope it will be fixed in the new update.👍👍👍

Great observation! So I was under the impression that was a setting I toggled on/off but clearly looking through the app again that does not appear to be the case. Hopefully they can update the app/firmware for those that are bothered by it!

I like to think they can fix it via update... now only a matter of will they do it!

The x40 pro plus is on his way, hot mopping and the lidar will be able to slide in 😉 waiting for that before I diside to buy on

And as soon as that releases the X50 Ultra will be on its way 😂😂

I'm really unsure between the Dreame X40 ultra & the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra. I don't like the design of the Dreame base station. If the roborock also had such a hair cutting thing, then my choice would have been quickly made for the roborock. Since this is an external thing do you think Roborock can also release such a brush?
@DigitalDavid6 ай бұрын
You got to go with what is best for you. It sounds like the X40 Ultra is what you should get if you can tolerate the different base station design. I am sure roborock can release a similar brush but if so when? After using both (roborock sent me the S8 MaxV ultra) I would pick the X40. Good news is you will be really happy with whatever one you end up going with as you cant go wrong imo!

I'm concerned about the tiny flimsy mop thing on the S8 MaxV it looks like it will snap right off after a few months use. The X40 looks like it will last longer.

Why is the side brush not spinning while cleaning the carpet?
@tjhf966 ай бұрын
I’ve had it for like two days now.. do you notice it slamming into things on the way back to the dock like full speed ahead slamming…? Other than that I think it’s a great product!
@DigitalDavid6 ай бұрын
No we have not had that issue. Maybe reboot it?!
@tyr0n3136 ай бұрын
Since you actually have it I have to ask… does the side brush really not spin on carpet?
@tjhf966 ай бұрын
@@tyr0n313 it does not… I don’t like that part at all. But maybe with future firmware updates they will have it do it. Since their older models do it.

great job. very well done review. thorough. im curious how your review of max suction power (PA) compares to CFM - what's the link/connection? If something has highest suction power, but not a corresponding relative CFM - what does that indicate? Love how you do scoring as well. Would be great when you do reviews to sometimes explain what your numbers mean.. i.e. if a max cleaning score is 85 for instance, what does that number mean in relative terms. Either way - this was a great review, and detailed and provided great content. thanks

Great questions. Happy to have this conversation as we are still learning as we go along! You would think they would be proportional but that is not true from our experience so far. Ideally we want high suction and high airflow but a lot of vacuums like the whole roomba lineup don't even advertise suction power (because they most likely are very low) and score really low on CFM (not a lot of airflow) but with their dual roller system they are able to do really well on our carpet clean up tests. So if something has a high suction power (something we hope one day to be able to test to verify manufacturers claims) and low CFM then at the nozzle inside the vacuum it is very powerful but at the point of contact (your floor) it won't be moving as much stuff towards it to vacuum it up. So that vacuum is all bark no bite lol In regards to your other question/point I am not sure I understand... so for the max cleaning score we put the overall avg (85) so you have a baseline of what the "typical" robot vacuum scores. That avg is calculated from the over 60+ vacuums we have personally tested. This way you know if it is at, above, or below average. So if the x40 Ultra scored 85 then its real world cleaning would be right at the avg for your typical robot vacuum. Is there a way we can clarify that further for you? All of this is really helpful so I appreciate you reaching out so we can continue to improve our videos!

@@DigitalDavid true but compared with your other videos that L20 had 8.3 which is the exact same as x40 but x30 was like 6.4 so something fell off in between the two models
