I'm not sure if they'd qualify as good enough, but couple years ago I got a set of goody scissors from like target, those are unbelievably sharp, and definitely far better when my bangs got long (I have fairly curly hair so a wet cut vs dry appearance are 180 off, and it's fairly forgiving for minor bang discrepancies)

I think that the funniest thing about „Hair IS everything ANTHONY” speech from Fleabag is that it's existence is based on the fact that Claire is afraid of the societal pressure, her husband's opinion blah blah blah, but in the end she embraces it, stops „hiding” it behind the wig, and the pencil cut (as I like to call it) is the symbol of her not giving a damn about others, as she finally puts her own needs before everyone elses'.

I had long hair my entire childhood and teen years and everyone strictly told me never to cut it short bc it's thick and curly and they thought it was beautiful long. But then I came to feel that my long hair was my whole identity and, although I liked it, it wasn't until I cut it very short that I then felt able to alter my appearance creatively in other ways as well. It was very freeing to just chop it off and find out that a) my hair is still beautiful even if its short and b) only I get to choose how I want to look -- not other people

Yes I hate this! When I had hair down to my butt as a tween people freaked when I wanted it in an A-line bob to the point the hairdresser just... Wouldn't. Gave me shoulder length and refused to go any more. I looked awful too. I'm thinking about loping off my stupidly long hair but I know I will get these comments again (mostly from older people). But if it's so annoying that I just throw it in a bun every day then I ask WHAT'S THE POINT OF HAVING LONG HAIR?!?!? You're giving me courage 😁✂✂✂😁

It's annoying how invested people are in others hair. Through my life I've typically rotated between really short bobs, through the grow out, to really really long. I'm now on the other side of your experience where somehow having long hair makes you/you look immature. I'm now in my early 40s, ever since my mid 30s people hint or directly say I should get a 'more mature' haircut, i.e. anything but long, and were super thrilled a few years back when I got a Pulp Fiction bob. Now, I'm just enjoying having it super long like a hippie and ignoring the hints and comments. Here's to enjoying whatever makes ourselves and others feel good in themselves 🙌🏼

Deeply appreciate your philosophy on hair! When i was growing up, my family had no money for hair salons or anything like that. Fortunately, my parents had very permissive ideas about letting their daughter get free-spirited with the kitchen scissors. Did I have a lot of bad haircuts? Absolutely. Did i have fun and learn a new skill along the way? Definitely. It was worth the occasional "oh no what have I done" to experiment with my hair and learn not to worry too much about whether it was all done "correctly"! It grows back and no one worth your time is worrying about it.

I totally agree. As much as the hair is part of my self-expression and influences my self-esteem, at the end of the day it's just hair. It grows back. So I've been cutting it myself for the last 8 years or so, and sometimes it looks great, and sometimes it looks like garbage. But it does grow back. And I'm going to keep trying new haircuts and hair colours till I still can, aka. still have hair strong enough to experiment with.

I came into this world with naturally curly hair so watching people put curls into their hair _on purpose_ is endlessly fascinating to me. I think I know why you don't find cutting your hair a big deal while a lot of people do, that's cause your hair grows super fast (for a lot of people regrowing bangs is something that can take well over a year). I don't have curls, I have straight hair and I've only had 'layers' and bob and straight-plain-hair, a dipdye in black and no other style. People say big curls would look cute on me, but it takes me ages to get used to something like that and I've just always been with the same hairstyle and the middle-parting, it'd be weird to suddenly do something different. Not to mention, my hair (my hairdresser refers to it as ribbon-hair) is so smooth that everything falls right out, from hairclips to pins or sunglasses, it doesn't stick. I do have wigs, that I like to wear to an event or a special occassion, that are curly or brightly coloured, like copper-red or blonde. But I always feel relieved to take them off again and recognise myself in the mirror. I would perhaps like to try an uneven (what is it called?) bob one day, one that's longer at the front. But not now, I'll save that for the future.

This video and the video you just posted about beauty actually made me feel a lot better. Lately my socials are filled with hair serums, skin care routines and weight loss challenges and now recently face yoga. Aging, frizz, acne, fatness being things to be superstitious about like people hanging onions and sage outside their homes to shun away from. Seeing that you put a lot of effort into getting your perfect locks and remove normal amounts of frizz that everyone has, reminds me that behind every ounce of content is curation. Also thank you for allowing to see behind it in your instagram, videos etc. it’s refreshing. Even though I try not to internalize this constant barrage of cosmic cosmetic content, it’s hard not to!

I cut my own hair a couple months ago because I wanted to donate it, and whenever I go to a salon to have them cut off my donation for me, they always take only the minimum possible length and leave at least 6 inches of hair on the floor. That represents more than a year of hair growth for me! So I cut off my ponytail at the nape of the neck and kept all the growth from the last few years. It actually didn't look that bad, just turned into an a-line bob, but it could be evened out to look better so I went to a stylist to have her spruce it up a bit from behind. But she got so mad at me for cutting my own hair in the first place and kept telling me off the whole time (which was like only 5 minutes from start to finish) so I'm definitely not going back to her next time. Maybe I'll just do it myself again, it honestly didn't look that bad anyway.

Ugh, THANK YOU. I went from super long hair to shaved sides and a mohawk which 1. I love! And 2. I have wanted since before I even knew what it was called. But the stylist was really hesitant and kept asking me if I was sure they cut it way longer than I wanted and kept asking me if I was sure I wanted to go shorter.. like.. yes. I, a grown adult woman, know what the eff I want on my own damn head!! Also and this is not important for literally anyone but me, but my hair was so long it was giving me headaches and neck strain like lady, please, this is for my health!!

I understand the struggle! I was at a salon once and a client who was leaving saw me sitting in a chair and getting a haircut. She said something like "If I had hair like this I would not cut it ever". 🙄 I told this lady that the hair length is not worth the literal headache. The weight pulls the sculp that much.😬

part of the reason why cutting your hair at home is better than at the hairdresser is that you can just do whatever you want. there's been times when i went to the hairdresser and they didnt want to cut my hair shorter because it wasn't feminine enough or because they were a fan of long hair (even when my hair was damaged af). i'm just gonna teach myself how to cut hair so i don't have to listen to such tomfoolery ahaha. and yeah we should all be more chill about hair and it's nice to try out new hairstyles. also your hair looks so good!!

As an AVID proponent of "everyone looks absolutely amazing with short hair", I'm here to say that you look SO GOOD in this length! 💖💖💖 And to people wanting to cut their hair but don't dare, literally just go for it, as you said it'll just grow back if you let it, it's not the end of the world 💇‍♀️

So funny seeing the vintage KZbinrs I follow all spring for shorter hairstyles (Karolina, Rachel Maksy, etc.) right after they inspired me to grow mine out! I had chin-length or shorter hair for almost a decade, but seeing all of the cute vintage hairstyles with curlers and victory rolls convinced me to grow it out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ At least we're all having fun!

It looks gorgeous. Hair is temporary. It grows back. I remember when my girls were teenagers, and I got criticism for letting them dye their hair. I would tell people that I would rather they get 'rebellion' out of their system with something that wouldn't haunt them all of their lives. Now I'm 61, and I want purple hair.

You look as stunning as always, I love the short hair on you, and your wardrobe is to die for. Your 2020 video inspired me to do the same and I loved it. Now my hair reaches my waist and I love it. I've been wanting long hair since forever but there was always a cute haircut I wanted to try lol. I used to dress in 1940's style (kinda, I'm poor) but now my style has been heavily influenced by the fantasy genre, so long hair is a must. And now I can do Edwardian hairstyles which is a big plus.

not to spoil your excitement or anything, your hair looks gorgeous, and it's true that it does grow back, i just want to vent for a sec. since i got my last haircut in march, my hair grew back really slowly, uncharacteristically slowly for me, and i was scared that stress and depression i've experienced in the last 6 months contributed to that fact and that it would generally start growing back a lot slower since i'm rolling closer and closer thirty. and i was scared the style i wanted to try wouldn't fit me at all. but i was so unhappy with the way my hair looked for so long and i really didn't want to go back to the tried styles i've been wearing half of my life that last night i just took a pair of sheers and went for it. best. decision. of the month. i look much better and refreshed with the new look, so even if my hair doesn't grow back at the rate it used to do, i guess i got lucky and i'm happy i did it.

“the bangs were nice but they always gave me a 70s look that I wasn’t going for” oh hey, it’s exactly why I gave myself bangs lolol. I love your new hairstyle! I get a lot of comments for experimenting on my hair and trying new things. I used to have very long hair, and while I loved it, I’ve realized that I value the ability to try new styles and experiment with different cuts much more than I value keeping the length. I will probably grow it long again, but I’m never going to feel angst about cutting it all off when I want to again. There’s just not enough time in my life to worry about something so temporary. I think you nailed it when you talked about how something that’s supposed to be fun and experimental shouldn’t cause so much drama lol
