@@WHOTEEWHO Look at this rifle before shooting these test and after, the scope clearly slid forward from the recoil. Now it needs to be retorqued and sighted in again. Always fire gun off the lead sled to check for scope movement, even after recommended torque. Big bores usually require more torque, 30in pound minimum with loctite. I know from experience

I have a CVA Scout in .444 Marlin. It fires a lighter bullet, 240 gr. but somewhat faster than most 45-70 bullets. I put a 4 power scope on it and in 2018 harvested my elk from 266 yards. The rifle is very accurate and has a wonderful trigger. The bullet was a complete through and through from top of shoulder blades and out the chest. Large wound channel but not much capillary damage.

@Thedoug369
@Thedoug369 3 жыл бұрын
I don't see any weights on that sled. Also, generally felt recoil is worse when shooting off a rest than when you're standing, cause your body can't move as much to absorb the kick. In my experience anyway.

I have the same gun and with 2350fps 300gr don't find the recoil bad at all. The brake and recoil pad both are excellent, I have shot without the brake and the pad still made it more than bearable. I am however a big dude.

Don't think you will ever get full recoil effect with a lead sled, absorbing energy. The holes being so clean with the 300 could be cutting paper with hollow point, and the other two pointing spreading paper open

I just bought the same rifle two months ago. I was thinking about this rifle in the 450 bushmaster. But I decided on the 45 70 as I've had a long Association with this cartridge and have several hundred bullets by speer ,hornady,Sierra, hundreds of case's, etc... In this ammo climate we are in now. It just made no sense to start out with a new cartridge I can't hardly find anything for. But to speak to the rifle itself. Having one in your hand goes a Lot farther than looking in the cva catalog. There a very solid,well built rifle. Mine shoots 400 gr flat nose, 350 gr round nose 300gr HP, 300 gr flat nose the 325 ftx, all like the example you have there. I put the vortex 1.75 x 5 dimond back on mine and used steel rings on a provided base. The trigger really shocked me. To handle it , feel the trigger, see it group and think , man I only paid 429.00 for this. Lot of value at the price point. Nice video. thanks

Love single shot rifles and shotguns. I wouldn’t mind getting one of these in .308 or 30-30.

Oh I agree, this tube in 30 30 would be wonderful. A 35 rem or 358 win would also be great. But yes. What a nice little deer rifle this would make in 30 30. I'd have one and love it.

"I have no doubt a .45-70 will take down a deer..." Even with the underpowered factory rounds that are safe to use in the original or reproduction 1873 Trapdoor Springfield (weakest action ever) and soft bullets it will drop a deer and black bear. With the proper load the .45-70 can (and has) take the Big 5 of Africa. Barrett Cartridges has the story of a guy who used a Marlin Guide Gun lever action in .45-70 and their +P ammo to take all 5 of the African Big 5 on their website.

I used to have a 4570 used to shoot 405 grain delayed out of it Remington rounds the only ones I can find at the time when I was deer hunting and Holt County in with them Shawty Pig one time and it hit him in the shoulder hey Wanda running away with the full moon drains that lead LOL he was only about thirty-five yards big Blackboard like I said he ran away with my leg LOL the rounds you going to shoot today in this video got a quite a bit of talk but that 405 grain to Lynn take a little bit harder LOL

45-70.....aka pumpkin lobber. Years ago when I was managing a backcountry lodge I would enjoy shooting my 45-70 at a distant hillside just to hear the "thunk" when the bullet hit the dirt. At the time I was shooting a 400 grain bullet if I recall correctly.

Cva makes a damn good gun. I have one of the first Inline muzzleloaders they ever came out with and it's still killing. Ive shot something with it every year since I got it. I stg I've left my rifle at home in the middle of rifle season and took my ol faithful cva muzzleloader with me.

I've been looking for a .45 caliber break-barrel for years and I just bought one. If I didn't see the Rossi Survival Rifle first, I may have bought this instead. I'm glad I got the Rossi though, because I needed a little do-everything bug-out gun. I would have been very tempted to get this thing, even though it's not what I needed.

He did on the chronographing part. That muzzle break probably helps a lot. I am a recoil lover. I shoot a Handi-Rifle in 500 S&W. 440gr Buffalo Bores, which I've chrono'd at 1820fps, underwood 350 XTP 1920fps, and Hornady 500gr JSP 1510fps. These were 5 shot averages at 10 feet from muzzle on a bench. The gun kicks no more than a 20 ga with 3" magnum pheasant loads, and less than 12 ga with heavy duck loads. Never been hit by scope with standard eye relief. Like WTW I prefer the "heavies" and generally shoot 180s in my 30-06s. All of them hit harder on the business end.😉

I a CVA stalker which is an earlier model in 30-06 and it is punching out the center of a 3.5” clay target at about 80 yards. I love it and use it when it rains. I also have a muzzle loader of the same brand and it shoots good too.
