This, for me, is by far the most exciting filmmaking tool to come out in a long time. It's a compact C300 Mark III with an internal data rate that outperforms the S1H. 1.46x Super 35 DGO Sensor, Cinema 4K, CLog 3, Internal ND. Only needs two SD cards, mini-XLR to XLR cable, two extra batteries! No need for a cage. As someone who's used quite a few of the Canon Cinema lineup to date, this is a tremendous feat! Bravo to Canon!

@@roteskaeppchen That's a fair point. In my experience with Canon Cinema Cameras, I've used the LCD monitors far more than the EVFs, and I have found them to be very usable despite their small sizes! So the lack of an EVF is not a dealbreaker for everyone. But perhaps they could have added a slot to add an EVF (like on the C500 Mark II/C300 Mark III--that would have been nice!)

Hey Jon, not sure who you’ve spoken to at Canon but from my understanding, from the pre-disclosures I had and discussions with Canon for both the C70 and C300 MK III, as soon as you go above 4K 60, DGO is disabled. @@CVPTV Great! I appreciate the quick reply and source info. You all rock! From the link above: “Now, there is a catch with this Dual gain Output system. It doesn’t work when you are shooting in frame rates above 60p in S35 4K. However, it does work when you are shooting in 2K Super 16mm Crop mode up to 180fps. This is not surprising because the amount of processing power to deal with two readouts at high resolutions and high frame rates would put a proportionally bigger load on the system.”

I’ve always loved the usability, form factor&layout of the C100, the side handle, joystick/record/iris/white balance/ISO/magnify all accessible via your thumb/index finger; the C70 seems to improve on everything, especially 422 10bit, false color & dynamic range. Missing is Raw, but Canon will save that for a more expensive camera, not even via HDMI/USBC with ProResRaw, but can’t have everything, maybe the Sony FX6 will offer everything? @@smallbizdigitalmedia internal ND filters, DGO sensor, 16 stops of dynamic, dedicated controls. also, the image looks better as all cinema cameras usually look better than the mirrorless options due to the nuances you can't find on a spec sheet. ive had the a7s, a7sii, and the a7iii. so i was really hype with a7siii. but even the BMPCC6k has a better image in prores than the a7siii does in raw. Which just goes to my point, you will find image qualities that are comparably better you won't find in specs

This will be a great compliment to our c300 mark III. Pre-ordered. Hopefully next year, we can finally replace our 1dx mark II's with an "R1"

Yeah it's perfect as a B cam to C300MKIII! I'm intrigued to see if Canon do a 1D spec'd cam in the R range, we shall see! Jake
