I'm no fan boy. I've been an infantry soldier for 38 years, so I don't get gushy about things. But this man caught my eye as a true leader and a great commander back during Gulf One. I admired him greatly then and still do. He was a soldier's soldier and an absolute gentleman. I would have followed him anywhere. And I say that as a Brit/Canadian, not as an American. Rest in peace, Sir.

General Norman is not only such a great Commander but also a gentleman and kind hearted that his strategy of doing whatever it takes to save every US/Coalition soldier life worked brilliantly. I do not know of any general who achieved such a swift victory in Modern Warfare such Desert storm, Any nations army/soldier would wish to have a General like Norman...even the Zionist state of Israel who boast of 1967 victory had 650 deaths in 6 days, and 2500 deaths in 1973 Yom Kippur war which lasted 2 weeks. In Medieval times during the time of Prophet Mohammad pbuh , the Arab Muslim commander Khalid Bin Waleed was the best Strategist in Warfare, he fought more than 100 battles and didn't loose a single battle, a feat not achieved by any Military commander in history.

When he was Commanding I Corps General at Fort Lewis, Washington I was in the Fort Lewis Fire Department.. We had the Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast for everyone that showed up and early on who came strolling into Station #1 truck bay was General Schwarzkopf and he greeted those Fireman and families that were present. He said well I better get to work and came over and stood right next to me in the serving line and stay with us for quite some time helping serve and cook pancakes. He was the most awesome amazing man and had such an awesome personality and it was so much fun standing next to him serving pancakes!, It was such an awesome sight watching him in Desert Storm and such a thrill for me to say I knew him.

Ventende...... I read the war memoirs of General Sir Peter De La Billiere, who was the senior British officer and also the SAS Commanding Officer. He had nothing but the highest regard and praise for General Swartzkopf, which was great to know, especially as potential rivalries could've surfaced. He was honest enough to say that Storming Norm's abruptness and even rudeness at times could've been offensive but was acknowledged as being the prerogative of a commander who was after all bearing the responsibility for the whole operation. That is something which is understood by all men of command. He was a credit to the whole force and especially to his troops and his country. RIP General Swartzkopf.

He came to our area before Desert Storm kicked off, and earned my respect because he made a point of avoiding all the officers who had assembled in one area to kiss his ass when he showed up, and instead General Schwartzkopf came through the troops area and mingled with us and talked and asked if we had everything we needed, etc...and then headed out before the officers figured out what he had done. He wasn't interested in getting his ass kissed by junior officers - he cared about his troops.

I really wished we had principled men like this in politics. He has his priorities straight. Cared about his men, fulfilling his duty, and his family more than anything. He pushed the Iraqi’s out of Kuwait as efficiently and quickly as possible.

God damn why can't we have these kind of interviews nowadays. Back then everything seemed more fact oriented and questions/answers were more thoughtful. Also, if I were a soldier I want that guy to be the commander in chief.

A piece of trivia if you like but as a collector of wrist watches I always look to see what people wear on their wrists. Norman seems to have a watch on both of his wrists and this puts me in mind of Dr R. V. Jones of British Scientific Intelligence who is also often portrayed wearing two watches. Does anyone who knows the General have any idea if he is wearing two watches and why?

I really appreciated what he said regarding how the media portrays things. I spent a very long time as an Intel Analyst and I would be disgusted daily at the blatant lies and half truths the US media would say just to fit their station director's narrative. As I tell everyone I meet today, If you watch CNN and FOX and think you're "seeing both sides", you aren't. You're only being lied to twice.

Jonathan Winters should have played in in some kind of comic piece. Today is June 9, 2017. Looking back because I was fascinated by him back then.
