Great vocalist. I just heard him for the first time last week and he is amazing! I usually don't go for metal bands. Like I've told my kids, I don't like to be yelled at! Devin is very talented with his smooth transitions, I love this band! By the way, I'm 61 years old and enjoy true talent across the board!

Tyler Messer best I’ve seen on KZbin is a guy called Sam Johnson I think. Highly recommend. He will pause and give good info about singers and about what they do well and how to do it yourself.

But I'm also mildly offended he's only watched one of his performances. Most people after hearing Devin end up diving deeper becuase you can't help but be impressed by him.

Brandon..Devy had Ryan (the drummer) had asked us (specific group of those of us in the know..lol) asking us what we wanted to hear them perform. Seeing some of the comments below.. We begged him to ask him to play the middle to end portion backside of Ocean Machine. The album has never left my playlist.. since it's release. Devy's a talented and beautiful human. Just remember he's one of the funniest and professional and talented producers/guitarist and vocalists living in our lifetime. This man, stands next to Mariah Carey in his ability to shatter glass.

@t00by00zer - I totally hear ya. First time I heard this I thought "holy crap, I can't even describe what I'm feeling right now!!!" It's a gut-punch right in the feels. And to think he did this LIVE, not studio. Masterful performance. Like you, I've heard this song dozens of times now and it still hooks me. Every. Single. Time. Don't think there's any particular feeling or emotion to try to describe or attribute to it, just roll with it. Can't wait to see him in June

Devin is definitely one of the best at singing both growls and cleans with almost no perceivable fatigue. On that note - The older material of Opeth features their older style where Mikael Åkerfelt, their vocalist, shows mastery of this as well. Their album Ghost Reveries is a great example of this. Check it out if you are so inclined.

I find you as a vocal coach you're missing out a big point which is his microphone technique. In this song you clearly see the different gap he uses to get the correct dynamic he wants through his mix. Only great singers do that so naturally. Hope it opens your eyes to a new whole level.

I fell in love with this number. I was curious to know if Devin Townsend was born with the gift of voice or it was mostly learned. My guess is he was born into this naturally. Then cured his gift. I'd suggest checking out Steve Brodsky and his work in Cave In and his current band Mutoid Man. He went from typical metalcore vocal in his early days before eschewing screaming for melodic singing and lately he's been able to bring the two styles back together. He's got a pretty impressive range.

You must see Kyo from dir en grey doing blossoming of Beelzebub or Dreambox from the Dum Spiro Spero Album. The best performance is at Budokan I think. theres so much going on technically, combined screams and distortions, so cool.

May I recommend Evan’s Blue - Eclipsed (unplugged)? It’s acoustic and I am yet to find a reaction page who has done a video of it. Kevin’s vocals are stunning. He began a second band called Parabelle as well.

The audience being more relaxed isn't really a negative on the performance though. There are some bands that i'd rather chill out and stand somewhere away from the action so i can take in everything that is happening sonically.
