You can analyze the pitch of the scream, how he gets the distortion in a clean effortless scream in perfect pitch all you want... unless you ask him directly how he does it, the analyzing means nothing... bottom line is he's God... he's incredible because he's been doing it for years through drugs and alcohol use and never lost it.

devin townsend is truly amazing, but his ability to create these sounds live with ease is not much more than years of experience and constant practice, from a very good baseline - the technique of fry screaming he employs is not a difficult one, he has an amazing ear though, and has been able to work that technique into a very powerful tonality dev is truly one of if not my favourite artists out there, so dont think im pulling him down in any way, but the artists on pedestals thing is really not productive thinking

Yeah, EMG TV is generally focused on the guitars, as EMG is a guitar pickup manufacturer. Typically they'll just have the lead guitar player do a play-through with backing tracks. With the bands where the lead guitar player is also the singer, they'll have them sing as well.

He’s been a musician forever. Dude was in Strapping Young Lad. Their song “Love?” is amazing. He also produced one of Lamb of God’s albums back in the day. It turned out kind of not that great but it wasn’t his fault. Dude’s Canadian and American customs seized his laptop and shit when he travels to Virginia to record. They dismantled his computer and that totally ruined the recording. He’s way more versatile that a one-man gig.

Can you try Fear Factory's singer Burton C Bell? He pioneered the clean and harsh vocals before anyone else. But struggles at times would be an interesting person to see your opinion on.
@Thorword
@Thorword 5 жыл бұрын
Burton is definitely a pioneer -- and Fear Factory was definitely as influential on Devin Townsend as any one band could be -- but man, the thought of a vocal coach eviscerating him doesn't really appeal to me. His approach works wonders in studio, but at no point during their career has his clean vocals been performed in a technically correct way. They've resorted to just playing the studio vocals live on the last concert videos I saw of them.

133K vs 3k, I wonder. If something already exists then copies are redundancy unless this guy has something that the other guy doesn't. I prefer Sam's channel although both of these guys do not seem like they have huge voices so I take their opinions with a pinch of salt. If Ken Tamplin, as crazy as he is, did a video on Devin I'd watch it because Ken can sing any note as long as it's a powerful one.

Its all down to opinion. If you are talk musical composition this is by far one of my favs. from him. From a composition stand point this song is incredible, most people just don't realize it right away because he's doing these extremely difficult things so flawlessly. I'm not talking about vocals, I mean the instrument composition. He's using modulation in a way that I honestly dream of doing. Switching keys, modulating major and minor flawlessly. Switching tempo, odd meter stuff. Its incredible and it all sounds smooth as butter, that's what a composer really goes for.

The video they're reacting to is getting close to 5 years old. Sam Johnson gets a lot of views (>160k now) for his reaction video and "just by coincidence" this guy happens to make a reaction video of the same exact video from the same point of view (vocal teacher). Cheap move that should not have been done, that's all I'm saying. At least wait a month or something to make the unoriginality a little less obvious.

@@remualltone1790 - I actually was one who recommended this song to Sam Johnson. There were others as well so he made a video reacting to it. I just discovered Devins music less than three months ago, so even though it might be five years old is new to me. And I don't see anything wrong with reacting to what is trending, there is nothing wrong with that. I actually like the fact that he chose to do it so close to when Sam did it. It gives me a chance to compare the two reactions and personally I like Sam's better. (No offense Carl). It gives me something to compare apples to apples.

@@Darkey23 I don't care who started reacting to clips first, he's doing Devin 2 days after Sam it's pathetic.

Did you ever wonder why? It's because the audiences of the two channels overlap-this happens with many reaction channels. Since they overlap, the same people request the same video from different channels, and all of a sudden several different reaction channels are releasing the same video with days of each other. This isn't copying, and there's nothing pathetic about it other than the silly presumptions about it coming from people like yourself. Think a little and live a smarter life.

I know the reason but still he must know Sam Johnson did it a couple of days ago and simply shouldn't have done it, it looks ridiculous especially since he says basically the exact same things as Sam...

TeddyBearBonfire lol audiences may overlap but I’ve counted up to 11 unique requests on this video to react to a singer and I’ve barely skimmed the comments. That’s also only on one video. This guy may have been doing it longer but Sam Johnson already has 300k more subscribers than him in that short time. If you think it’s just sheer coincidence that two days after Sam uploads a react vid of Townsend this guys uploads the same react vid, and a few days after Sam uploads a react vid of disturbed’s sound of silence this guy uploads the same vid, then you’re a fucking idiot. He’s trying to get his channel more exposure by uploading reaction vids to the same songs another KZbinr has reacted to that is more popular than him. He could’ve chosen any other of his hundreds of suggestions to do a reaction vid of.
