Almost 40 years ago, I took a class on Isaiah from Abraham Gileadi. He had just published his own translation of Isaiah. He told us that certain words in the text were titles or symbols representing individuals (such as the Savior), peoples, and places. He’d translated the book into English because the original English translations had used synonyms to avoid repeating the same word frequently. (English abhors repetition, which is one of the reasons we have so many words that have the same meanings.) By this use of synonyms, the earlier translators had made it far more difficult to identify the symbolic meanings in the text. The only problem with Gileadi’s translation as originally published, it didn’t contain an index. So, as my term paper for the class, I wrote an index. Today, such a task would be child’s play. But, this was before personal computers were in common use. To produce the index, I read the text dozens of times, looking for and noting the location of certain words. It was a lot of work. The class was my favorite class from BYU.

Yes, Gileadi is awesome. Since 2018, with the Hope of Israel talk from Pres. and Sister Nelson, I have invested heavily in studying the scriptures. I read Gileadi’s, Skousen, and other books. I have been studying Isaiah’s teachings and it has been amazing. Heavenly Father wants us to study and understand these things. Our mortal experience gives us an special perspective that we have never had before. Brothers and sisters, I bear my testimony that all effort you put to understand the scriptures will bring you more happiness in these world and all eternity. You cannot think Celestial if you don’t know what Celestial thinking is!!! I hope you give it a try!

Look at 2 Nephi 6: 1 - 5 --------- 1 The words of Jacob, the brother of Nephi, which he spake unto the people of Nephi: 2 Behold, my beloved brethren, I, Jacob, having been called of God, and ordained after the manner of his holy order, and having been consecrated by my brother Nephi, unto whom ye look as a king or a protector, and on whom ye depend for safety, behold ye know that I have spoken unto you exceedingly many things. 4 And now, behold, I would speak unto you concerning things which are, and which are to come; wherefore, I will read you the words of Isaiah. And they are the words which my brother has desired that I should speak unto you. And I speak unto you for your sakes, that ye may learn and glorify the name of your God. 5 And now, the words which I shall read are they which Isaiah spake concerning all the house of Israel; wherefore, they may be likened unto you, for ye are of the house of Israel. And there are many things which have been spoken by Isaiah which may be likened unto you, because ye are of the house of Israel. 6 And now, these are the words: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people; and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. Question. Jacob said he taught the people the words of Isaiah as requested by Nephi. Why did he take the trouble and work to transcribe and teach it to us in the Book of Mormon? In my opinion, it can't get more clear than that!

After years of reading different authors on the Book of Isaiah and getting nowhere, I came across Avraham Gileadi’s translation on the Book of Isaiah and for the first time the lights started coming on. That was in 1989 and from that time on, his insights have changed my spiritual growth in ways that I could not have imagined. As a member of the church for 51 years, besides the Book of Mormon, no other teachings on the last days have had such an impact on me. Avraham Gileadi’s work unlocks the Book of Isaiah for understanding the times we are in.

My father spent my entire teenage years studying Isaiah with Gileadi's guidance. He and I talked about these things all the time. In the years since it has become clear that when it comes to Isaiah's "end-time scenario" it is a great tapestry, an unfolding drama in which we get to participate. Trying to construct a "timeline" I agree, misses the point. Instead, see it as a guide, an almanac for the patterns of prophetic fulfillment and God's intentions for His chosen people. I think when Nephi says that he "likens the scriptures", it is that he is able to see his people and us within the scriptures. It gives clarity on how to ascend towards God, and the trials he requires of us as we progress. I think it is no accident that Pres. Nelson has been adamant about the Church's current role in gathering Israel, on both sides of the veil. Gathering is preparatory to restoration, and marvelous things will take place as we, generation upon generation, progress towards the Lord's return.

A few years ago I read Isaiah with Avraham's commentary. And I read all of his books. I learned a lot! Isaiah is very deep ! But today I find that the whole Book of Mormon is my keystone and brings the Spirit like no other book. I'm grateful for Joseph Smith who translated it by the gift of God and I feel like Joseph is the end time servant spoken of in Isaiah. Maybe Joseph will yet get the chance to finish the work he started? I'm sticking with the prophets who have the authority and the church that has the wonderful spirit. We live in exciting times!

You can do both: accept the prophets and learn the events that will come to pass as prophesied by ISAIAH and I might add if you’re listening to your own prophet Nelson then he has taught us that except we learn to receive personal Revelation we will not be able to survive the events that are to come in these the last days. We do not have to choose one or the other but can be aware and educated by both.

For me, I had to read the Book of Mormon a lot of times before Isaiah began to click...even with the Holy Ghost. But now, reading Isaiah is a pleasure. And a special blessing, I can now start digging through confusing books like Ezekiel...I love Isaiah. And the Book of Mormon also has many layers of truth that you can parallel to todays events. I have to say that the Holy Ghost is a dear friend of mine ;) and I discovered early after my baptism the great difference in reading scripture; it was as if a floodlight of discernment came with that gift in reading scripture and discerning the meaning. Since my baptism twenty plus years ago now, I have read all I could get my hands on Skousen, Kimball, Cowley, Clark Hinkley and many many others. I also enjoy Lund, and his bringing history to life with his fictional historical novels! All my reading is church related, as nothing else seems to be rich enough or valuable enough to spend my time and effort reading it. We are so blessed to have the gift of the Holy Ghost!!!

I appreciate the interview. I have read a few of his books. I bristle a bit, however, with individuals that feel that they have it all figured out. You had mentioned in the interview that you had some issues with a commentator that you enjoy. I feel that that is what we all need to acknowledge. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can truthfully claim that they have it all figured out. That is not to say that we cannot benefit for the tools being provided. We certainly can! And I have loved much of what I have read of your guest in the past. But I think everyone should be a bit cautious when reading anything from any mortal. Acknowledge the good, use it in your tool belt if you can, but always be aware that it is the knowledge of mortals that you are using. But to think we have it all figured out would put us in the same camp as the Sadducees and the Pharisees. They thought they had it all figured out too. They were convinced that Jesus was not the Christ despite the fact He was standing right in front of them. Humility is essential when it comes to mortality.

Gileadi is awesome, I am about 2.5 years into learning about the book of Isaiah, he's right when he says you see everything in a different light. And when he talks about the precepts of men in the church, I suddenly understood how many misconceptions I've been living with. I understand people try to teach from the knowledge base they have but when they do so without FULL knowledge it inevitably leads off the path however little that may be. I started looking at all the "doctrinal" LDS books I have read in my life, the ones that explain something without quoting scripture, and I realized there was more opinion than truth or misconceived truth. Because of this I use the scriptures and the Holy Ghost to answer my questions, not another person.

Over the past years I have noticed that the church is scaling back on micro managing everything we do (Come Follow Me, Ministering) Plus Emphasising home centred church and learning to receive our own personal revelation, WHY? Because in the last days we may only have the Holy Ghost to rely upon. I once asked my Sunday school class; what would you do if you no longer had access to the Prophets direction due to collapse of communication systems? Or even access to local leaders? You will need to know how to receive personal direction from God. The General Authorities are trying to teach us this.

Greg, Thank you for featuring Brother Avraham on your program. I have been acquainted with his work for about 4 years now. My understanding of Isaiah has blossomed and my understanding of the purpose of the Book of Mormon has been greatly enhanced as a result of studying Isaiah using the tools that Avraham had provided. If you haven’t already done so, I would invite you to follow Abraham’s suggestion to listen to his Analyitical Commentary on the Book of Isaiah which uses the Isaiah Institute translation of Isaiah. For me, once I listened to this and continued to study Isaiah for the past four years, I now know why so many Book of Mormon prophets and the Savior himself in 3 Nephi, were so intent on us Ephraimite Gentiles understanding how the words of Isaiah inform us on what our critical role is, or should be in a worldwide rescue effort in the time just before the return of the Savior. This final gathering of the tribes of Israel back to Zion so that they might be brought back into the covenant, is really the marvelous work and wonder that Isaiah is trying to teach us about and prepare us for! Again, thank you!

He shows how these end time prophecies from various prophets all coordinate and help us understand the message more completely. I am really appreciating your guests because he is speaking the same way as these books I'm reading. I have always been one to search out answers and do more than just go to church. It is so unfortunate that at these times, we, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, can go through these tipe of "cultural movements" in times like these. I am converted from Brazil. My family met the first missionaries in 1974, in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. I attended seminary youth Conferencies and received a blessing of serving in many capacities at Church in Brazil, Puerto Rico, and upstate NY. We lived in Bountiful for the last 10 years, and I have never imagined that my fight in the last days would be from outside of the church. We LDS would be persecuted by the " world " not by the líderes. In Brazil, the members of the LDS Church have a great regard for BYU. Since 2020, we have seen our 3 kids and families straight away from church for all that had happened in BUY and with and after the pandemic. Vaccine was another big problem that took away our free will. My grandson, who attended the temple every Friday after he turned 12, didn't serve a mission because he disagreed about taking the covid vaccine. I served in the Bountiful temple with my husband for 8 years and came back to serve when they opened after the pandemic until they decided that the non vaccinated temple workers needed to go back to wear masks again when the vaccinated didn't. It was attaching a big yellow star of David in our faces. What is happening with the líderes to call bad for bad and good for good? It has been very disappointing, sad and doscouraging. It's like fighting against everything that I trust and believe. It's the opposite of what I thought would happen now that I am 68 years old. 😢

I'm so sorry for what you've gone through. Some of the hardest persecution to deal with comes from the people closest to you. Isaiah 49:13-15: "Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted. But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. Deseret Book in the early 1990s pulled Avraham Gileadi's book from its bookshelves called the Last Days, because of his declaration that the Davidic King will be a real person in the last days. The book was a hot seller and after Deseret Book pulled the book from its shelves the book became rare and its value increased on the secondary market. I remember selling a copy of it at a higher price than it's original price. All because Gileadi is taking Isaiah literally. It's ironic now, that Deseret Book won't pull off its shelves a book that blasphemes the prophet Joseph Smith and presents falsehoods as historical fact such as Rough Stone Rolling. Strange ethics found at Deseret Book, with its schizoid behavior over LDS authors.

2 Nephi 25: 7-8 7 But behold, I proceed with mine own prophecy, according to my plainness; in the which I know that no man can err; nevertheless, in the days that the prophecies of Isaiah shall be fulfilled men shall know of a surety, at the times when they shall come to pass. 8 Wherefore, they are of worth unto the children of men, and he that supposeth that they are not, unto them will I speak particularly, and confine the words unto mine own people; for I know that they shall be of great worth unto them in the last days; for in that day shall they understand them; wherefore, for their good have I written them. Nephi is telling us directly that the words of Isaiah will be "of great worth unto [the children of men] in the last days," and that we would understand them, because we will see the very things Isaiah prophesied come to pass. There is no doubt in my mind that both Nephi and Isaiah saw our day, because the prophesies are being fulfilled even now. Greg, I am so thrilled that you invited Avraham Gileadi to your show. I have learned so much from him, and one of the most precious things is how he has taught us tools to search and understand the scriptures for ourselves. There have been several times watching your show that I have wanted to say, "this has all been prophesied!" If we search Isaiah diligently (and by extension, all of the scriptures), what is happening in the world will be less likely to shock us. D&C 38:30: "...[W]herefore, treasure up wisdom in your bosoms, lest the wickedness of men reveal these things unto you by their wickedness, in a manner which shall speak in your ears with a voice louder than that which shall shake the earth; but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear." Would we rather learn of these things in the moment when they happen and be unprepared, or would we rather "treasure up wisdom" and prepare ourselves spiritually so that we are not caught off-guard and overcome by fear? Also, do we understand the signs so that we will not be deceived? D&C 123:12 "For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it..." Thank you, Greg, for bringing to our attention Christ's commandment to search the words of Isaiah. You're pointing out where we can find great and essential truth and where our eyes of understanding can be opened like never before. The insights that I have gained by studying Isaiah have caused me to treasure all the scriptures in a deeper way, and it has been truly an exciting journey, just as Brother Gileadi described in this video.

As a seminary student, I (and my classmates) were advised to just read the chapter headings when we got to Isaiah in the Book of Mormon. I took my seminary’s teachers advice, but felt so sick about it that I started reading the whole chapters. Even as a youth I sensed the importance of Isaiah, and it’s unfortunate I was given bad advice to lazily pass them by instead of guidance to understand. ❤️‍🩹 I always especially enjoy this style of episode from you. But all my life, I've held the hope & thought in my heart, that someone like David Midegah would eventually surface and confirm to us in the LDS church, that they hold the proof of the Book of Mormon!! I'm so stoked for the fact that this has finally come full circle!! And I can't tell you how sad it makes me, that ANY church member would attack someone like Chief Migedah, and accuse him of having alrerior motives! ☹️😢 That disappoints me beyond words!! They should be praising God that this proof is finally surfacing!! And to thank our Creator that we have new brothers who have the stories of when Christ came shortly after his resurrection!! I simply don't understand what is wrong with these individuals who think that only THEY have the truth. I say shame on them! I would be so heartbroken if our brother, Chief Migedah, decided that it was a mistake to come to the church and show or tell them about everything he knows for the past 2-3 millenia!! 💔 Please open your hearts and minds people!! How can you possibly be as arrogant as to say anything accusatory towards an Ojibwe brother who knows the entire story of the Peacemaker.. you all were told this was eventually going to surface and we would have an opportunity to learn more!!

Avraham is definitely an inspired person sent by God. Many people believe that God only chooses leaders in the institutional church to warn the people, that is a mistake that most people make in failing to recognize who God sends as messengers. The scriptures have many examples of that, from John the Baptist to Abinadi and many others. People open your eyes and hearts and take Isaiah seriously, his prophecies are very important and critical to help us understand what is going on in the world right now. The recent rising and alliance of Tyrant nations is a clear sign of who God will use to destroy the Gentile Nations prior to his second coming.

I love your testimony, Abraham and your work is magnificent. You are truly one of the real wonderful people who really discovered the truth and brought it to the masses. And you’re trying to do it for free now and give people an opportunity to learn from your wisdom from the wisdom of God, gave you. But don’t we have enough money now? Do you think that you need to charge for anything? Why not simply take all donations proceeds and give them to the remnant group, or the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or how about this? Why don’t you donate every penny and it comes to you to the poor. Just the poor and none other. Don’t charge for the apps I know people need to make money to put this stuff out there but you guys have enough money now and everybody can work during the day and you’ve got enough information. There that all you have to do is have one single podcast where you tell the people that now that you got the keys and ideas, it’s time to study the book of Isaiah for yourselves, and if you’re interested great, and if you’re not well, God commanded us to read that book in the book of Mormon. So let them read and leave it at that. Or maybe you want to be the prophet and everybody can follow you because you’re the best interpretation and I know this is a very cynical and terrible way of commentary in on the work you do. I think you’re magnificent and I want to meet you, but if you can’t give it all up, then you’re not worthy of him. And he says that the arm of the Lord is going to step forward and sweep off all those rich guys and put an end of this garbage. Since you don’t claim to be that man, then I suggest you give up all the money you make in the proceeds personally, and what did he say?

I also felt that Avraham was there to be selling his products. And yes, the Come Follow Me could have more information but lessons are there for the most common denominators. I think we have the responsibilities to study and pray and listen for personal revelation directly from the scriptures. I am also sure that church publications are carefully reviewed before they are available. Jesus is the Christ, through the Holy Ghost He will speak to us and answer questions that we have. The Prophets are teaching us in our times as did OT prophets. President Nelson is aware of what is coming and so he has made so many changes since Jan 2018 to help us become self reliant in out testimonies. Think in Sept 1995, President Hinckley gave us the Proclamation to the Family. Think he knew what was coming later, I sure do.

You don't need to understand Isaiah (or better said Avraham's interpretation of Isaiah) to understand the Book of Mormon. The writers of the Book of Mormon gave everything that is needed, Nephi even gave the explanation of Isaiah that he quoted right after quoting it. (ref minute 19:14)
@CwicShow
@CwicShow Жыл бұрын
I would say that understanding Isaiah gives you a much clearer understanding of the Book of Mormon. After quoting Isaiah 54, Christ tells the people at Bountiful, "I say unto you, that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah." So that's a commandment. Later he says, "great are the words of Isaiah". I would also suggest that the entire Book of Mormon is built around the Book of Isaiah, especially chapters 52 and 53. As an example, it's hard to understand Abinadi without understanding Isaiah. Nephi also puts entire chapters into his book. It would be wise to understand the context of these chapters and how they match to what Nephi is saying.
@iaingreer2231

But what Avraham said is you need to understand Isaiah to understand the Book of Mormon. I would say you need to understand the Book of Mormon to understand Isaiah.

So Jesus gave one full chapter himself in 3Ne. Then commanded us to study Isaiah. He did not say study the current prophet of his day or our day, just Isaiah. Nephi and Jacob gave us 18 chapters of Isaiah and did not tell us what was in them. Nephi could not since he was shown our end days but not permitted to say more. So he gave us those chapters to tell us what he saw.

@@FleeingBabylon-Now Not my point, you're conflating what Jesus said to what I was addressing that Avraham said you need to understand Isaiah in order to understand the Book of Mormon. Jesus didn't say that. I agree one should study the words of Isaiah, but I would never say you have to understand Isaiah first if you're going to be able to understand the Book of Mormon. Mormon and Moroni gave us exactly what is needed, in the book is the fullness of the gospel. Nephi specifically said that he couldn't say anymore because someone else is supposed to reveal that. John the revelator. His book Revelations, is what he is talking about. You want to understand the continuity of what Nephi is saying? Then combine what Nephi's vision is with the book of Revelations and then you'll really understand what is going on. We should not treat the Book of Mormon so lightly that we believe the book cannot be understood unless we buy the books from Gileadi to understand Isaiah. Where in the scriptures does it ever say that? Sounds dangerously close to a priestcraft. The Holy Spirit of God reveals to all, poor and rich, those with access and those without.

@@CwicShow The appearance of Isaiah 53 in the Book of Mormon is its quotation by Abinadi, where he’s saying it refers to the bringing about the salvation through His suffering servant, i.e. the future crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Abinadi does this to argue against king Noah and his priests falsely claiming the mantle of the anointed servant establishing peace in Isaiah 52. In this interview Gileadi wants to see in Isaiah 53 a strictly political last-days messiah other than Jesus Christ. This seems incompatible with Abinadi’s use of Isaiah 53-indeed it seems to be the very kind of interpretation that Abinadi is arguing against. The whole point of the New Testament authors’ politically subversive application of the Greco-Roman titles “Lord” and “Savior” to Jesus, usually applied to Caesar, is that _Jesus_, not Caesar, is the rightful political ruler of the world, even though the implementation of that political rule would have to wait until His parousia or appearing (i.e. the Second Coming), another Greco-Roman technical term normally used to refer to a visit or arrival of the Emperor. Gileadi is mistaken to break with this early Christian tradition and look for some other political messiah other than Jesus Christ.

He definitely has some interesting content and we can learn from him. However, I think I would frame the gathering of Israel and the recovery of the ten tribes in a more positive light from my interpretation of The Book of Mormon prophecies. First of all, we’ve been sending thousands of missionaries for almost 200 years. We are now building temples in the hundreds across the earth to take the covenants to the House of Israel. In terms of recovering Lehi’s children, myself and almost all of my peers who are in our 40s now served up and down South America, Central America, and Mexico. These are Lamanites and Nephites in my opinion. Also, if you look at what has happened with immigration in this specific country, the USA is also being turned back to the children of Lehi and seed of Joseph. If trends continue the US will be a majority Latino country within about 30 years. I live on the border, and it’s clear to me that the House of Israel is pressing into this country. That’s my interpretation at least. Finally, for me a spiritual interpretation of the House of Israel is also relevant, because we do temple work for every single child of God. The House of Israel is the House of God. There are Jewish nations that remain as a people like in Israel, and in some South American nations, but everyone has some Israelite blood as well, because in genealogy if you go back 2,000 years, everyone alive today has heritage from everyone alive back then. We all have billions and trillions of instances of ancestry with some people occurring many times in our lines and others less, but if you ask a genealogist, we all descend from royalty and poverty at the same time. We all descend from Israel/Jacob. His blood is mixed into every nation.

Isaiah uses key words that Moses used, so you don't just look at how Isaiah uses the words, but how Moses used them, and then how Christ and other prophets quoted isaiah. So to say Isaiah alone contains the answers, its self contained, is simply false. How often does avraham quote other scripture in his interpretation? How much does he use the D&C, Nephi, Moses, or the New Testament? He doesn't see the book of Mormon in isaiah 29.
