I love Cyber Sec but am an introvert so was thinking Web Dev freelance might be better for me. I wonder if it's possible to do any sort of freelance work in Cyber Sec? I actually know a few people who currently work in cyber security and do security consulting on the side so you can def do cyber freelancing, though it may look like giving advice on how a company should focus on their cyber infrastructure or hands on implementations so it's really up to you. Web dev freelancing has always been popular so i'm sure you could easily find clients with both of those skillsets. good luck!

To Sandra and others...If i wanted to break into Cybersecurity, would i have to do A+, Network+, then Security+ since they're all dependent on each other? Or DO i just start with security+..I have a bachelors in IT...i need some help understanding...thanks.

Yeah A plus I would recommend first since it teaches like computer basics enough for like a help desk job And I'm doing it in same order..I had my A plus for about 4 years now.. and I think imma do my security+ first which I'm starting to study now... then network plus and I heard the network is harder

First big thing I got was my Comptia Security+ certification (i have a vid on how i studied for this!) and then I did Capture the flag cyber challenges, you can do free ones on Hackthebox/Tryhackme and get experience using certain cyber tools! Also learning basic linux commands helps a lot, then any cyber only courses you can take and add all of these things to your resume can get your foot in the door for entry level cyber jobs, good luck with everything!

Hi! I’m currently going to be a senior in high school, and I am currently really considering majoring in Cyber Security. I was wondering how much background of programming should you expect to need for this job? Personally, After taking a college course during high school, on Java, at Pitt, I do not like coding. Like I like Debugging and can fully understand what is going on with the code, But I guess I just can’t “think out of the box” to create my own Program. I was originally was thinking about getting a degree in computer science, but only recently I only realized how much I did not like coding. Hopefully this all made sense, and thank you for making these Videos!

Hi michael, that’s awesome you’re thinking about this as a senior in high school! You definitely dont need coding on a regular basis for most cyber security roles bc at most you might be writing your own scripts, automating a process, or maybe some bash scripts. I’d definitely consider cyber security instead of Comp sci if you’re not too interested in coding, maybe pentesting might be your thing :D!

It can vary a lot based on location/company and I'll be posting a video tomorrow at 12pm on Cyber Security Salaries but in general I believe SWE makes more than general cyber security roles!

Thats so awesome, Software engineering is def a huge filed that needs lots more developers but cyber security is also growing fast even tho it is a bit more niche but there are so many roles in cyber security that you'd have a lot more options to pivot and move around in my opinions, all comes down to what you enjoy more, good luck Basem :)!

Hi Jyothi! You should practice on hackthebox/tryhackme/different CTFs for free pentesting experience and download Kali Linux to learn some basic linux commands and try to learn how to use those common hacking tools to put on your resume, there's lots of coursera/MOOC courses you can take for free online too but I'd reccommend the Security+ cert since that really gave me the foundations of my security background, I have a vid on how I passed that cert exam here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn2ni3mAgceWd9k Good luck Jyothi! :)

Software devs will use more algorithms/coding and data science will use more math, cyber security is mostly using tools like burpsuite, linux commands, scripting, etc.!

Nope age doesn't matter. The more certs you have the more desirable you are. Security + is a great start and a doorway to many opportunities.

Hi Purav! I code about 20% and its mostly python scripting here and there :) could look diff if you’re a pentester and writing different payloads/scripts but many cyber roles dont have coding at all! Just make sure you look at the job descriptions carefully when applying so youknow what to expect! Good luck😁
