I remember reading a story in 2000AD where some criminals came up with the idea of getting Dredd to break the law so that he would arrest himself. So they stood at one end of a one way walk-way and deliberately provoked him so he would break the law by going the wrong way down the walk-way to deal with them. Dredd shot them from where he stood...

This is probably because this all takes place in a future beyond the 2000AD comics. MC1 has been largely settled down, and crime is not nearly what it used to be. The Current Dredd is a Clone, and they did try to make more than one again. So, you get Rico (that just never works out well) again. Anyway the JD and Dredd are much less hardcore because they don't have to be. In fact, things keep getting functionally better more civilized over time. I would argue that the 2012 movie "Dredd" takes place before the Comics and the 1995 Judge Dredd takes place well after the 2000AD comics. But timeline issues keep me from trying to make that stick. And I have no good idea where the IDW Judge Dredd comics fit in. But could be an alternate time line that starts from roughly the middle point to the 2000AD comics but then deviates into its own thing.

To be fair, Dredd doesn't murder, they're fully legal executions. That's part of being a Judge, you're allowed to use any level of force to fit the crime, and Dredd is a very by-the-book Judge. He just pretty much always takes the maximum allowed penalty option.
@leechowning27123 жыл бұрын
@@kedolan4992 most people don't understand that part. Much like the DC police and secret service firing into protesters in January... It is not murder because the law says it's not. So long as they justify what they did, it was simple self defense. Judge dredd has lots of experience with repeat criminals. He has decided that criminals will repeat. Therefore he uses the harshest possible option... Either extended prison terms or termination... To prevent repeat offenses.

You need to stun someone? A blunt and malleable material that deforms easier. Need a grenade? the material becomes a chemically unstable mix that explodes on impact.

Judge Dredd was not the greatest film at all but it defiintely had some great moments and this was one of them! It's the MOMENTS that make the movie worth it. That being said, Dredd with Karl Urban is superior. But I will always respect and acknowledge Judge Dredd's moments.
@Xylarxcode Жыл бұрын
They each have their ups and downs. Urban was a better Dredd and told a better story of a time earlier in Dredd's career, evidenced by the fact that Anderson is still a rookie and this is their first time meeting (they're longtime friends and co-workers in the comics). But Stallone's movie actually showed more of Megacity One and how the corruption of the system has affected the world. In the Urban movie, most of it is confined to a single apartment block, with only once chase sequence showing a little bit of Megacity One. In the Stallone movie, we get to see various parts and people from all walks of life and how things are in their world, making for much greater variety. Urban: Better Dredd, Stallone: Better Megacity One.

As campy and.. well bad this movie was? It was surprisingly accurate in many depictions of how Judges dispense Justice (It's absolutely over the top and the comic is SUPER cheese, especially the early days). Also, the look of Mega City One is ABSOLUTELY on point here. It's just a shame that they did what they did to Rico and Judge Dredd. That's actually supposed to be one of the very first times we see Judge Dredd get somewhat emotional in the comics... him holding his dying brother and shit? They even got the Angel Gang right.. It's just.. Rob Schneider (Who was actually kind of funny) and Dredd with no helmet..

The most accurate part of the movie to the books was Mean Machine. Still a fun movie though. I absolutely loved the new one.

I wish we had the violence, grit, and tone of the new film, but with the production set dressing, costumes, and Stallone from the old film. And having Stallone actually play a character rather than just being kind of goofy most of the time. I guess he was straddling between being light-hearted PG-13 hero and Judge Dredd -- I thought he played it perfect during the initial shootout at the apartment complex, but the tone of the film was all over the place. Given the behind the scenes conflicts/drama between the director and the producers, it looked like the director had the right idea but the executive producers were trying to bow to the marketing advertisers. Had the director got his way, this would have been an all-time, ultra-violent classic.
@CharlemagneGuy12710 ай бұрын
That and Stallone was honestly a great actor to play Dredd in terms of appearance. His acting was just too cheesy and again, the helmet.
