As far as gaming mode it may or may not help it depends on too many variables. Game Mode gives top priority for your game - this is useful if you are running multiple software / processes at the same time - Where it will hurt game performance is if your game is relying on multiple software or processes running at the same time, if not, then it may actually improve performance - by how much, it depends - maybe on high-end systems barely noticeable, it might help more with lag and frame drops. It's best to keep the option OFF, if you have a powerful enough system and your game has decent enough frame rates and turn it on if needed, but the best thing that will give noticeable increases in performance is debloating the OS, and if you are an advanced user, dedicate a partition for gaming on a light version of the OS without all the bloat and installed apps that run in the background - this is what I do - I have 2 x Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, 1 for system and apps, another one dedicated only for games. and 1 Samsung 990 Pro 1TB dedicated for windows temp and cache.

I don't see the issues people have with Windows 11. I was nervous when I upgraded from W10 to W11 on my 3 year old laptop after reading bad comments about it but upgrading was a breeze and it's been running sweet ever since plus it's not much different from Windows 10 anyway. I recently upgraded to 23H2 and it's still running great. I've also had the same positive experiences on my Wife's 2 month old laptop and the Gaming Desktop that I built 9 months ago using a combination of old and new parts. All I can add is that I do keep on top of PC maintenance so maybe that's the key to happy trouble free computing.

Rich: Thanks for your sponsor providing inexpensive Windows licenses. I did this on a machine that originally had 7 installed & was eligible for free upgrade to 10 but ran into minor snag & owner said "forget it". When 7 expired she didn't want machine & sold to me & I put 10 on it but unactivated. XP was prolly that one and only time MS got things right from the start. 7 was good at launch as well, but it feels like a rectified version of Vista than a new Windows. I tried the most updated version of Vista before (SP2). Without any bloatware and with the proper drivers, it was actually a good OS imo. The problem was we already had 7 at that time so this improved and more stable Vista came too late. 8 was a curious OS. One big reason why people hated it was the GUI, which was clearly tailored for touch. MS was trying to go for a Windows that was for both PCs and touch devices. Imagine if they did it right.

Great Videos.. I have been using windows since 3.11.. But actually.. Im starting to think about moving away from Windows towards Linux.. I hate that you cant customize windows to suit your feel or flavour.. And with the rumors, that Microsoft are moving towards only to install programmes from the store.. Then we are at a point, where Microsoft decide, what you can install, and thats not a place I like to be.. Not to talk about updating, when WINDOWS want you to update or upgrade, instead of when YOU want to update and upgrade.. And the rumors, that it will turn in to subscription based OS... Love to see, how many will ditch Windows if those things happens.

There's an alternative method to change to context menu in case others don't want to dive into the reg editor and that's through a console command --> reg add "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32" /f /ve After that restart Windows Explorer like in the video and it should work -- worked for me!

There is one tip i disagree a little, and don't recomend everyone doing it. On the power settings, if you have an AMD ryzen CPU you shouldn't mess around with the "best performance" mode and leave it "balanced". This is because AMD Cpus when well configured on the balanced power plan will adjust the CPU frequency dynamicaly and when your windows is doing light tasks it will actualy boost the frequency more on single core loads. If you have the best performance option toggled all cores of the CPUs will be more "awake" and thus even those who are not needed will still consume some power, leaving less availlable headroom for more Boosts when less cores are needed. Meaning that the balanced power mode is actualy realy good on Ryzen CPUs and even AMD recomends it for best all-round performance.

Thanks for the tip about restoring "some" of the context menu function, however I wish there were a permanent way to enable "Move To" and "Copy To" from previous Windows iterations. There is a registry hack, sure, but as soon as Microsoft updates Windows, that hack is disabled because the new registry key is wiped. I move huge files and "DnD" or "Ctrl-c/x" can result in heartache when, not if, it goes sideways because file manager is still unstable in Win 11--even after ~4 years. Why on Earth did Microsoft think that "Copy To" and "Move To" were something to remove? I loathe the file manager, menu, and context menu design of Win 11. That is why my new PC got rolled back to Windows 10 Pro and will stay Windows 10 Pro. I've been a member of the Microsoft Insider Program and Beta testing program for more years than I care to admit, and Win 11, to me, is akin to Windows ME. Heck, WIn 8 was better, out of the box.

Around 13:00 miins or later you mentioned win11's antivirus. Should we turn on or enable PUA (potentially unwanted applications)? I enjoy emulating / gaming and I'm wondering if that's going to mess up everything. Back in win10, I had norton and it constantly quarantined key files just because half a million people didn't have it yet (not because it was malicious) so I was constantly having to go into norton's quarantine and remove items to get the emulator (nightly build) to run.

A just got a new high end custom desktop PC (i7-14700k, 32GB DDR5, RTX 4080, 2TB Samsung 990 Pro M.2 SSD) and despite all the negativity out there about 11, its honestly not that bad. It supports Intel's P and E cores, able to run at super low CPU clock speeds smoothly for light tasks. Mine shoots up to a comfortable 5.4Ghz with the P cores while only at 27% CPU utilization while playing Planet Coaster on 4k max settings. Task Manager is more detailed but still intuitive and easy to use. And with the main Photos app for viewing your pictures, there's the simple Zoom To Fit option while having good picture resolution quality, probably does some good upscaling there... Things I'd like improved is giving back the Lock screen option (rather than just restart, shutdown, log out, or sleep). And when locked, it shows the last user. Control Panel is still there, no issues connecting wirelessly to my HP 6200 printer. I did have issues connecting my Xbox controller via Bluetooth 5.3, but I can use a USB 3.0 or USB C chord. My Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse for Windows 10 works fine with 11. Start up and Shutdown on my old Windows 11 which has a fast 2TB M.2 SSD is slower than my old Windows 10 which has a 1TB Samsung SATA SSD. Many programs actually run better on 11 since it and my RTX 4080 has AI.

I found that having Smart App Control on causes some programs to open extremely slow the first time it is launched after a PC reboot, especially programs not installed in the Program Files folder. I turned it off and a program I was having issues with now opens immediately.

Hi, thanks for this, much appreciated. Do you know how can I deactivate widgets entirely or almost to a negligible amount of resources. I still have them pop up in task manager from time to time using disk resources. Thanks!

0:08 - Either you have very different comments than I normally see on Windows 11 videos, or this should have been "it's not gonna be by installing Linux" 🙃 (Linux bros, please please PLEASE keep letting us know you use Linux, it absolutely never gets insufferable)

Thanks for saying that! There are reasons I don't use Linux, and no amount of insufferable bragging is going to make me change my mind! The only time I will consider switching to Linux is if it somehow, through some horrific global collapse, becomes the only OS _actually available._ I have no desire to learn how to use a computer from the ground up at my age when I just wanna get shit done.

@@theimaginatrix7625it sounds like you haven't tried a modern version of Linux where you can run from a flashdrive tbh...yes about 10 years ago Linux was far more finicky

without at least measuring pc latency with frameview those benchmarks wont help. fps numbers aren't enough to understand what's really going on and with such small differences it can all come down to margin of error and variances , depending on how clinical you are executing tests

Debloat is good, but it is better to do it via Powershell to actually remove it, this is nearly the same as deleting shortcut to the app, also for all users, regarding registry you can also change default user, which is "template" for new logged in users

Do you have a solution for the Windows 11 SSD being slow? My reads are normal but my Writes is less then half it should be. Manufacturer claims: R-7000 W-6500. my test after 7m and one windows upgrade later its now R-7400(stayed the same) and W:-2200 and sometimes 3000. The drive is 2TB and only used up about 300gb.

The motherboard firmware and/or the SSD firmware can affect those numbers so you might need to experiment with different firmwares and see if you get your write speeds back to the level quoted by the manufacturer. There’s a risk with flashing firmware so make sure you’re knowledgeable before attempting this. Also, look through the settings in your bios for anything relating to pcie gen 4 speeds or NVMe. Ensure it’s not set to operate at a Gen 3 speed. Sounds like the write speed is locked into a Gen 3 speed range. Lastly, boot into a Linux OS and perform a speed test there. If your speed is normal under Linux, your Windows nvme driver might be the cause.

@@Richo5566 I have the latest bios update installed there is no sk Hynix p41 platinum firmware update only their gen 3 ssd and my auorus x570s elite seems to be lacking in drive settings as I was having difficult setting up sata raid unlike my previous b550 rog strix board. My last option is to dual boot a Linux flavor at this point I guess. Just to test. Even if I did there is no drivers or anything sk Hynix offers anyways. Thanks for the help.

Edge ain't too bad these days. I still default to Chrome thanks to my long Windows muscle memory (thanks IE), but a number of workplaces I have worked at were MS-centric. Locked down devices, Edge as the default browser, etc. So not that biased these days given they are both built from the Chromium engine.
