Microsoft pulled Windows Recall from the latest beta and have stated that it will not be included in the launch of Copilot plus PCs. They have some big changes they are making to it before it returns and I will show you how to disable it for when that time comes.

I don't trust Microsoft anynore, at all. I did in the Win 7 and Win XP-era, plus with the MS Dos 6.22 and win 95/98. But that changed from Win 8 and forward, especially now with this privacy- and risky disaster called "Recal" + the telemetry in Win 10/11. I will never trust MS again.

@@t.michaeld2461 Here's 2 fun facts for you. Linux will NEVER be as adopted as Windows until 2 things happen. 1: Linux Software, most notably games, must reach or exceed that of what can be found on Windows. While Linux can emulate Windows software, it is just more work to do on a Linux machine and most people are just lazy or not tech savvy enough to do it. 2: Drivers and Hardware on Linux must be as easy to use as it is on Windows. That means no needing special know-how or manually configuring installs. So if you have to open a file and then manually enter your resolution or configuration, that alone is enough to scare most away.

Here's my theory - take it or leave it: Microsoft knew they would get extreme backlash for introducing Recall no matter what, so they purposely announced what was supposed to be an unfinished BETA version to prompt user outrage, so they could backtrack and release the finished version with its security "enhancements" (or whatever they call it), and people wouldn't complain so much.
@mannather
@mannather 3 ай бұрын
Effectively "Backtrack from an outrageous thing to make the thing you want seem reasonable by comparison". While I can see the logic, I don't think that works in the tech industry. Case in point is Nvidia having extraordinarily high prices for their GPUs with the chip shortage and never dropped them afterwards. Even with their price reductions for the GPUs that aren't selling, people are just buying AMD GPUs instead for either availability or the better price:performance ratio. With Recall not only being terrible in practice but exceptionally easy to extract screenshots and data from in it's current form, any future version would be under even more scrutiny than the "Beta" version as that would be the version that is widespread and vulnerabilities holding back a flood as opposed to a puddle
@yerachmielb1

@@yerachmielb1 It was the best example I could think of at the time that's "Outrageous to reasonable" ;^^ The fact it's free does change matters for the general public but unfortunately, the general public aren't the most involved bunch. Many people don't change their defaults on their tech, no matter how advantageous it could be (play the default ringtone somewhere and watch how many people get out their phone to check). Kinda like how it's fairly simple to block telemetry. Either using Windows' own host file to redirect the URLs is a local IP address or using Winaerotweaker to disable it and yet, many people wouldn't know Windows is getting telemetry data without being told beforehand ("Microsoft still sells Windows keys so why would they need more money from you?" as an example though from them). It's mostly the security researchers and IT experts who will break down the newer version of recall and reword it without bias. It's those stories that'll say about any holes for people to be aware of and spread. Imo, Recall is simply "Testing the waters", to see how it was received before committing. Their intention is clear but they don't know how to achieve it without customer backlash because what they want is inherently anti-consumer at it's core ;^^

That is exactly how it works. To get sheep to accept something you reveal it then you take it away and put it back in a 'better' form. M$ made sheep accept keylogging and spyware as normal. A few years ago those were the things only malware did. Forced updates and settings getting reset, all normal now. M$ knows how the manipulate the simple minded. People will fight and work out how to continue using Windows. They will see it a badge of honor to run the OS their way and 'beat' M$. Microsoft is laughing all the way to the bank. Tell that to the many who hate One Drive, and have tried many ways to get rid of it. Even if you tell Windows not to use One Drive during a fresh install of Windows, it's installed and turned on anyway. Happens to me every time, I reinstall Windows to clean it. So, trying to prevent it from being installed, does not work. Windows forces it on you, just the same. Some have even found the system OneDriveInstall.exe and removed that. But the Windows OS keeps adding that back into its system. The only way to shut it down is not to uninstall it or not install it, but do a set of complicated system and user tasks, both on the PC and online, to disable it. That is all you can do. And it's not easy. That will most likely be the case for Windows Recall also. Just saying.

@@SpaceCadet4Jesus well google response/reviews on win 8.0 to get example of not customer needs in focus. Windows 8.0 was designed for tablets, now pc with a mouse and keyboard. But it was sold to PC-owners as an "upgrade" ton Win 7. Win 11 is introducing a lot of extra mouse-clicks for simple and common tasks e.g. copy/past/rename and etc. It also introduce this "Recal"-thing and in general spy on the users PC with telemetry that is 1. active as default and 2. some telemetry can not be disabled by the user. These snapshots are literally images of whatever is on your PC screen at the time, and they're stored locally on your computer, analyzed and indexed for easier searching. @brianschuetz2614
@brianschuetz2614 3 ай бұрын
I got that same feeling, like I don't own the computer with Windows 10 on it. For me, the last straw took place in 2022 when I ended up getting a virus (my fault), and suddenly Windows took complete control of my computer, and started sending data to Microsoft, without asking permission or giving me the option to stop it. I did a hard shutdown. Then I restarted the system and dealt with the virus myself. After that, I more seriously looked at Linux. I had been playing around with it on old computers when I bought a new computer to replace them. I wasn't sure what the best flavor of Linux was, but I compared Manjaro and Linux Mint. I ended up going with Manjaro with the KDE desktop. In late 2022, I moved from Windows to Manjaro, and I've been using Manjaro ever since. I like Manjaro, but you have to figure out which version of Linux pleases you most. I recently had my PC die, so I built a new one, and I chose to stay with Manjaro and the KDE desktop. There is a learning curve, though. Thankfully, I don't do anything special with my personal computer. The organization I work for provides the computers I use for work. I have no say in what OS we use, so I use Windows 10 for work. I don't care, though, because it's my work computer. Anything I do on it can be monitored by my employer, so I don't put anything personal on it. On my personal computer, the main things I do are use the internet, play some games and play around with virtual machines. Getting the games working on Linux is a little bit of work since they are Windows based games, but it is doable. The other challenge is getting my all in one printer working. As for the printing, it was just a matter of downloading the appropriate driver package and now it works. The scanner feature will take a little more time to get figured out. Neither one of those things are critical to me, so it isn't a big deal for me. My only other problem right now is getting sound from my speakers. Headsets are working. Speakers worked at first, then stopped, then was working, then stopped. Nothing wrong with the speakers, though.

He can't go to Windows 11 supposedly, has been running Windows 10 for years and now wants to go to a completely different operating system and put the work into creating yet another Windows 10 installation with limitations he doesn't have now. Why don't you just bypass the Windows 11 requirements checks and/or refresh your copy of Windows 10? Are you using what originally was a Windows 8 or Windows 7 computer? Besides potential virtual machine audio, graphics and networking issues, Windows licenses are typically tied to specific hardware. @@SpaceCadet4Jesus Even for those who trust MS not to simply take their info and then do whatever with it, with all kinds of hacks that have been going on even to the point of getting to BIOS level, I'm not sure why anyone would want to have an archived database of everything that can be viewed on their screen just sitting and collecting, waiting on a hack sufficient enough to take it all. And regarding it being turned off, I'm not one to trust a company that turns back on various features automatically during updates and can easily see them deciding to do that at some point.

@@Thesakuraharona Hi! I would rather pay 200 USD for a retail-license of Windows 10 without the spying and with normal privacy and integrity. And also to not have Micros*** "develop" Win 11 to include 2 mouseclicks + selection of "show more options" in pop-up menu to e.g. change a single filename, copy, paste, create shortcut when in Win 10 (not so "developed") it was enough to click 1 time on mouse-button and select the function. Of course there is no option in win 11 to change this click-mess to the way it was in win 10. Also: I wish I never "updated" my win 7 pro retail license to win 10, because of the spying telemetry and nagging about use Edge instead of other webbrowser. And also, win 8.0 was "developed" in a way ms-customers did not need, nor wanted. So Win 8.0 was a mega-fiasco. MS stoped caring about customers real-life needs in an OS and instead care about tge internal MS "strategy" from Win 8 and are still going "strong" in this. Wishing you a nice weekend 🙂

Recall and Co-Pilot is spyware, what else could it be called when it can take up so much space on an SSD or HDD. The only thing these two features do is send data back to Microscam, no matter if they claim it's only on the disc drive on the PC and encrypted. Microscam can have the features send the data back to Microscam. If someone wants to get certain things on the PC stored they only have to do a print screen option and and paste it into paint and crop the section they want saved. Then it's just a matter of saving it to a folder on the PC, whether the user makes a new folder or puts it in an existing folder like my pictures is up to them. Recall is an unwanted addition to Windows as all it does is save the user from doing the print screen option and saving something to the SSD/HDD on the PC. Co-Pilot is also unwanted as it will send users searches back to Microscam for them to analyse and give them options when they put in a search on the browser.

“Ultimately, saying that you don't care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different from saying you don't care about freedom of speech because you have nothing to say.” ― Edward Snowden, Permanent Record
@SpaceCadet4Jesus
@SpaceCadet4Jesus 3 ай бұрын
The statement highlights a logical fallacy known as a false equivalence. Equating privacy concerns with freedom of speech oversimplifies complex issues. Here's why: 1. **False Equivalence:** - The statement suggests that both privacy and freedom of speech are equally trivial because of the absence of certain conditions (having nothing to hide or nothing to say). - However, these concepts serve different purposes and have distinct implications: - **Privacy:** Protects individuals from unwarranted intrusion, surveillance, and misuse of personal information. It's a fundamental right that ensures autonomy and security. - **Freedom of Speech:** Guarantees the right to express opinions, ideas, and dissent without fear of censorship or punishment. It's essential for democracy and open discourse. - Equating the two oversimplifies their significance and ignores their broader societal impact. 2. **Context Matters:** - Privacy and freedom of speech operate in different contexts: - Privacy: Pertains to personal boundaries, data protection, and individual autonomy. - Freedom of Speech: Relates to public discourse, government accountability, and societal dialogue. - They address distinct aspects of human rights and societal well-being. 3. **Nuanced Perspectives:** - Many people value both privacy and freedom of speech, recognizing their interdependence. - Advocating for privacy doesn't mean having something to hide; it's about safeguarding personal autonomy and preventing abuse. - Supporting freedom of speech doesn't require having something specific to say; it's about defending the right to express diverse viewpoints. In summary, the statement oversimplifies complex issues by drawing an invalid comparison between privacy and freedom of speech. Both are essential, but they serve different purposes and deserve nuanced consideration. 😊

Hi, and thanks for the video. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the Recall feature should not be on Copilot+PCs and other computers supporting the Recall feature. I don't think many regular users will use the Recall feature; I am very convinced of that. To record everything you do on the computer-oh my goodness, who needs it? Yes, maybe big companies, but I doubt it too. Microsoft should scrap the Recall feature altogether. But we will see what happens with the Recall feature. Personally, I know many other users out there who will turn off Recall and not use it. What I think Microsoft should do is provide a choice to uninstall the Recall feature on Windows Copilot +PCs or not pre-install the Recall feature on computers that support this feature. Alternatively, they could put the Recall feature in the Microsoft Store for those who want it and use it to record everything you do on the computer, which, as I said, no sane person wants to do.

"This sounds like a really useful feature." WTF! No! There is no reasonable good use case of Recall for the user that outweighs the hopefully obvious problem. There are however a ton of great use cases of Recall for various "interested parties" who love to violate your data privacy rights. What Microsoft does here is they violate their paying customer's legal rights (at least in all countries that have data privacy laws, aka the civilized world) just because they think they are untouchable. Any program that takes unsolicited screenshots without asking before doing it every time, is usually enough to put the author in prison, unless you're Microsoft, then most public prosecution wets their pants. This needs to stop and especially that MS Recall sh*t needs to stop immediately, before it finds its way on everyone's computer! Disabling is not enough (can be enabled by Microsoft software anytime without you knowing). Recall must be removed from a system.
