I’ve never been so in love with a game I don’t really want to play. It has such incredible moments. The city is such a joy to be in. It’s just once the surface level stuff wears down there’s nothing to do. I wish so badly you could hang out with friends and do side activities. Properly go to bars, play mini games, stuff to supplement the city. Make it feel like you are actually living there. I’d take that over any number of improvements or new content at this rate. Just make the city less surface level. Let me just exist in the gorgeous world you created beyond walking around. The fact that two of the most popular mods are a mod to visit friends at the bar and one to use the monorail system says a lot about what kind of things people want. I think the best improvements would be tiny stuff like that to immerse us deeper in the city.

I do hear you, but it’s also like how far would that really take it. Going to a bar and having one of the side characters with you is nice, and maybe add in some eating and drinking animations, but without actually writing new side ‘quest’ dialogue to go along with it it would get boring pretty quick. Same with using a train to fast travel. It sounds like you’re asking for more side content to be written, which I do get. The game does allow you to get to know various side characters and hang out with them via the main side story content for each character though. I just feel like anything else would be more like the apartment stuff, being able to play a guitar or light incense, or play Roach Race, or watch tv. Sure it’s interesting, but the novelty wears off pretty quick. And aside from the main side missions there are quite a few memorable side activities that come to mind as well. It is tied to my biggest complaint with CP though. Despite it’s long run time if you aim to do everything the game has to offer, which stems mostly from the sheer number of fixer contracts, police reports, and so on, the decision to make the game’s main story content shorter because of people’s ‘complaints that Witcher 3 was too long’ just wasn’t the right decision for a world like this. It’s a world you want to spend a lot of time in. And while I do think they do offer a lot, it would have been nice to get more Witcher style branching side quests that might not even be main side character related. Just these dynamic world events. I still love the game, and have played through a few times, but I think they’ll be able to nail this in a sequel. At least they got the world and atmosphere down perfectly, and there is a great foundation here moving forward.

@@mandrews6282 I definitely agree the game has a lot of other areas as you mentioned where it needs improvement. Although I wouldn’t downplay the significance of a handful of basic features to flesh out the city. A game that comes to mind is GTA 4 which is famous for its friend system and hanging out and going bowling or drinking with buddies in the city. It’s been a decade and a half since that game came out and I still like doing that stuff whenever I play the game. It’s not magically the solution to a lack of content by any means. However, it does drastically help an otherwise empty, lifeless world develop into something a bit more immersive and enjoyable.

You're actually so right! I look at the Yakuza series for example which has not the most expansive open worlds or anything like that, but it has so much side activities, not just necessarily side quests, but also loads of recreational things to do It's also a let down that there's no Gwent! Like I literally wouldn't care if they literally copied and pasted the version in TW3 and used Cyberpunk characters, it would have added a lot

I remember there was an early gig where you had to retrieve a tape for this cop. If you just go through the gig and grab the tape for the guy, then the job doesn't really go anywhere (I think you might even meet that cop later on after completing the gig), but if you actually look at the tape before grabbing it, you find out the cop murdered someone and was trying to cover it and you can confront him on it. I don't think many people pay attention to those details. There's also the other quest with the Father & Son who were selling a BD of a Priests son that got killed. There are some gems in those gigs.

Immersion wise, the gigs have some secrets, like if you did some gigs before some main quests, and choose the right options during dialogues, you can get some small extra scenes, or if you do certain gigs before doing others, you can actually have different ways of solving the gig. Cyberpunk choice and consequence has some impacts in the world, like, some side quests and gigs can generate small changes in the world, like a news about some person you let live or if you failed to help someone you might see their apartment with a crime scene line, or even meet someone again after the gig. But a take on it ,that happens in The Witcher 3, and that is much bigger in Cyberpunk, is that in real life sometimes all roads lead to the same end! Sometimes it doesn't matter what you say or do, something will always end up that way, and in Cyberpunk that's the main thing about the whole story, it's not about the end or impact you might have, because in the end not even the biggest legends in Night City have that much of impact, it's about the journey, and the people you meet and things that you do along the way. That's the core of Cyberpunk 2077, and Edgerunners, so it's not so much "illusion of choice" it's more of "somethings will always be this way".

@@Miss_Claire On PC there's a mod called Hidden Gems, all it does it send you text messages of hidden things that were already in the game. @@Hyde1415don’t think it’s that they made it extremely difficult cause years later and people are finding stuff in the Witcher 3. In fact quests, and the rpg system is basically ripped off the Witcher yet people say the Witcher is still the greatest game of the generation but cyberpunk has a deeper story imo and has waaaay more lore going on compared to dungeons and dragons type of thing which we all know about ( I love the Witcher 3 btw). People love gta but you don’t do much but shoot people and the stuff you do in the open word isn’t ground breaking immersion hell there are barely any buildings you can enter than you can actually do things in outside of story stuff. I think people are just picking on this game cause of the bugs which might’ve killed immersion and so they start being hyper critical about certain things like “I can’t do anything but missions” like drinking and playing golf in gta was what people booted the game up for but most of the Time if it’s not multiplayer they just drive…

Replaying the Witcher 3 after spending so much time with Cyberpunk 2077, I'll have to say that the latter took the spot for me. And I'm not saying this lightly because the Witcher 3 is among my top favorite games of all time. And what's funny is when you see people saying that Cyberpunk 2077 had too many dialogue and moments where you just talk, the Witcher 3 has more of those and it's a lot slower 😄

Been saying this since launch: Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t a bad game by far, but it’s a shining example of an unfinished game. I am starting to be more forgiving towards these massive open world projects because its a bitch and a half to develop games like that. I still would rather devs just wait to release a game til they know for sure its good, but this game specifically was put in a rough spot by being a late last gen game right as the PS5 was coming out so they had to basically find a way to make it work for both systems and a game like this probably should have just been a next gen game from the start. Its night and day from PS4 to PS5.

That illusion of choice bit is why I'm not holding my breath for Starfield. I saw a lot (well, some) of hype for the last dev diary, with the whole "you can ask your companions to speak for you, but you have to live with the consequences" bit. But, I mean, with Bethesda's low focus on writing? I imagine the consequences are like... I have to spend eight seconds fighting someone my companion lied to/pissed off somewhere down my playthrough. And that's it. Hope I'm wrong, but... it's Bethesda. Once lack of choices and consequences are in a game, that's baked in. No patch is gonna fix that.
@NeutralGloomBot
@NeutralGloomBot Жыл бұрын
I can't speak for how this game played at launch, but I just started it on PS5 two weeks and I am in love with it. I mean its CDPR so you know you will get good characters and story telling but I tend to get bored with city atmospheres real fast so I didn't think this game would grab like it has. I can already tell I'm going to do everything. I'm chipping away at sections now of gigs, side quests, and cyber psychos and let me just again praise this company for being one of the few devs that understands how to do a good main story and have side quests that are actually interesting and have their own unique stories as well. The gameplay is solid too. This is an 9/10 game for me and its only losing a point because there are like minor visual glitches here and there but nothing that ruins the experience. Again I cannot speak for the old gen version, but if you have a PS5 or Series X and you enjoy a solid open world RPG, you're going to enjoy this game. Keanu's character is awesome too btw.

If you haven’t played this game before or you haven’t picked it up in a while please do. It is a 9 out of 10 easy. The issues you saw with the early version of the game Call In. I can’t believe how they improved this. We often talk about the Witcher. 3 and how they added so much good DLC to that game. Well here we see that CD. Project read has a knack for adding Contant to a game. That’s what they literally did here they took stuff out. They added other stuff back in. As the game stands now in February 2023 it is a great game. What I am most excited about isn’t even the upcoming DLC. No. What excites me is the next full entry in the series. I don’t know when that will be, but they know how to make the next game now. They know what the city should look like they know how it should run they know how skills should progress . In other words, they have a recipe for a winning video game that is no joke. Would you play this? You will see they have something here. Now I can’t imagine what this game would be like once they start out with a platform like this and do nothing but build on it. What happens when they turn the living city into an even more living city. What happens when they take a very customizable character and make them even more customizable. When they say you can play this game several different ways. They are not joking. What happens when they upped the ante. more secrets to find more hidden quest more areas you can enter into and explore. I’m not joking when I tell you this game is great but it’s the one that comes after that will probably be a tin a masterpiece. I’ll give this one 9/10. You should play it especially if you see it on sale. You should buy it is it so worth the money

I've played different builds. None are 'better' or 'worse' than each other. My current play-through right now is as a 'bruiser' (20 Body, 20 Reflex, 20 Tech, 8 Ninjitsu, 3 Intelligence), so I'm taking advantage of getting up close and personal, busting open doors/windows etc. I usually do the non-story gigs first to get the XP, gear and perks before I dive into the story. And I always try to get the 'look' of the character (street kid versus corpo rat), and you can pretty much mix and match however you like. I tend to not use the fast-travel terminals, but uses the motorcycles to get through Night City. The best system is the cybernetics, how you equip yourself and how you approach situations. When I play corpo-rat (20 Intelligence 20 Ninjitsu 20 Tech), playing stealth and quickhacks is how I do things. Not to say you can't use stealth as a bruiser (4-8 Ninjitsu), but you'll have to time it well to avoid getting spotted (cameras, NPCs). When I did the "Guniea Pig"-quest, I stealthed to Joanna Koch and snapped her neck. Not easy, but saw it as a challenge.

I had a lot of doubts especially since the launch of cyberpunk but a couple months ago I decided to pick it up for the ps5 and man my mind was blown away. Now does the game have bugs, yes but besides the bugs the game runs pretty smooth and the side quest and the story are amazing so I highly recommend this game for 20 bucks you get about 60-80 hours of gameplay

Man I started this game again after 2 years, had the exact same bugs as before. People tposing and sliding across the floor in cutscenes, mouths not moving during speech, people being molten ps1 models in cutscenes, even guns not firing/playing the firing animation, reticles disappearing down scopes. Granted the latter combat bugs may have been because those two were happening when I tried out my old save. But the bugs with character models happening in the opening cutscenes after 2 years...

after beating the main game recently with mods, and just 100% the gigs. the only thing that bugged me was playing on the harder difficulty with hardcore damage mods because I wanted to play stealth and get one shot kills. but the game was still never as difficult as I wanted it to be. always left me wanting a more focused stealth experience i got playing deus ex and also wanted to play a more demanding wave based mission because u rarely fight more than 5 enemies at once and i even added more advanced edgerunner enemies but everything i had would just melt through them and armor got op real fast.

Open world bugs can be quirky and fun sometimes. In RDR2 (Red dead redemption 2) I was strolling through a forest and saw a tree bent at a perfect 90 degree angle twice. It was still in the ground, allegedly "alive", but literally bent. It was a persistent bug that was on both the xbox and pc version. But the point is that you will need a little tolerance for wonk in open world games.

Yes, the life paths are not real life paths as such, but I've made them work incredibly using other ways, like putting specific clothing, using specific builds, cars, weapons.... This game has such a great replayability! I've completed it so many times, I've tried so many builds, netrunner with smart guns, pure katana/blades build, heavy guns blazing juggernaut like build, sandevistan stealth assassin, just pure grenades with sandy build even! And everytime it's like playing a different game in the same open world.... Ppl compare CP with gta.. This is so ridiculous. It's like comparing chess and domino... A game has to be enjoyed by its own universe and rules,

It was fun to play, I don't remember there being any hub towns, nor do I remember interaction or dialogue with any NPC's outside of quests. I don't really understand why the city is open ended when there was nothing to explore, you kind of just drive around and there's nothing to see or do, so you start up a new quest or side quest.. really weird game.
@moonknightish

The city is open for immersion. Even if there is "nothing to see or do", driving around in the city, going home at night to rest etc... makes you feel like you are inside the world. It would not be the same if it were Hub based

Thanks for this Review Matty, truly. I was debating between finally getting Cyberpunk 2077 or Tales of Arise. And you helped me pick Tales of Arise. I am pretty tolerate to bugs bugs I don't see why I need to put myself thru that when there's another great game I won't face those. Maybe after Tales and AC Valhalla I can consider getting Cyberpunk again.

I don't know what he is talking about tho. I am playing Cyberpunk 2077 right now and am 50 hours and the most I have experienced bug wise was a few sparing minor visual glitches. Nothing that ruined any aspect of the experience. Now don't get me wrong, Tales of Arise is a great game so have fun and enjoy, but someday in the future give this game a shot and I promise you will not be disappointed. Its like GTA met Bioshock and had a Cyberpunk RPG as a baby. lol The story telling alone for both the main and side quests makes it worth it. Johnny Silverhand is a delight as a character too

I don't know if it is a bug, but it is very annoying... So I am on my fourth playthrough because I have just upgraded to the Series X and for some reason, every now and then, another character will be talking but their lips won't move but I often get to a situation where the lips are moving and there is no sound from their voice so I am forced to read the subtitles. When that starts happening, I have noticed that things sound muffled, yet you can always hear V's voice loud and clear during the interaction. When this stuff starts happening, I have noticed that sometimes, the sound of your vehicle is muffled as well. Usually saving, quitting, and then relaunching the game fixes it for me, but it's just really annoying because it hasn't happened to me until I got on this playthrough. Each time, I do notice different things in the game though, which is why I think it's got a lot of replay value for the curious.

I got it over the Xbox spring sale because I needed a sci-fi RPG to hold me over until Starfield and I will say that I'm way more invested in it than I thought I would be. I love cyberpunk. It's a great typical CDPR RPG. I played it a half year ago after the release of the next gen patch, on my series x. It's not as good as "The witcher 3" but a very great Rpg. I absolutely loved the world that CDPR created. Yes their games are always very buggy at release, but they are masters when it comes to world building. I can honestly say there is nothing that can get me to play this game again (despite how much I trust and love your reviews!). There are fundamental flaws with this game that can't be patched in. Like there are fundamental things missing from the game. The hacking/abilities were all super shallow, and they made it seem like you'd be able to interact with a ton of characters in the world when really it was just a quest giver here and there, and all the other npcs generated in the city were essentially walking mannequins. There really wasn't a whole lot you could do in the game once you got past the main quest, there were a few cool side quests but everything else was fetch quests. The romance options were absolute garbage leaving basically one relationship for each sexuality, the only option you had as a hetero male was Panama, and a couple one night stands. It just didn't branch off that much. It's just missing so much and I think they bit off more than they could chew. EDIT: Oh and what's with all the locked doors?? There are so many doors you would think you can enter but there's just no way to do it. This is supposed to be the game of complete freedom to explore the city and 99% of the doors go nowhere. 99% of the buildings are just set dressing like an N64 game. You'd think with how you could go into most buildings in the Witcher they would've done the same thing here even if they had to copy and paste
