Here's how Maine and Dorio's deaths are partially linked to Lucy. While she was deep diving into Tanaka's brain, she saw that Arasaka was looking for David and decided to protect him by erasing the data. But that wouldn't be enough, since Tanaka knew about david, so she had to kill him : she's the one who fried Tanaka's brain, setting up the chain of events that lead to Maine and Dorio's demise. That's also why she can't talk about it to David. Telling him she's protecting him from Arasaka netrunners and mercenaries would inevitably lead to questions, and David eventually learning that the man he revered as a father figure died (at least partially) because of Lucy.

26:25 There are two gauges filled with percentages. The green on on the left is the % of installation complete. The red one on the right is the % of failed/rejected/stress on the user's body. If the red reaches 100% that's a full rejection of the "chrome" part, where the user either dies or goes cyber-psycho. Just like a real surgery with donor implants, there is a chance the body's immune system will reject the "new" or foreign organ. The green stuff David injects himself with are "immune-suppressors" (military-grade), which temporarily stops the body's immune system from reacting (violently) to the new implant.

Something I enjoyed seeing this episode since the release of Cyberpunk 2.0 and the revamped cyberware system is that the game's UI looks similar to David's % capacity meter.

The craziest part about this episode for me was the fact that David just sacrifices all his limbs just like that. Not to mention the constant injection of meds to keep his sanity.

This anime reminded me a lot of requiem for a dream. This slow loss of everything little by little is very similar to how drug addiction affects people. The deeper you're into the addiction the easier it is to discard things to get one more hit.

His original limbs were already gone. Remember the scene were he went to Doc instead of partying with the crew? Even there his arms and legs were already all cybernetic. At this point in the story there is not much organic David left.
