Very beautiful video. Sad that your channel is criminally underrated. I like to point out to this "new medievalism" with "the new rise of the infantry revolution". Infantry revolution is a definition used for the late middle ages and the rise of units like Landsknecht and Tercios, which with the shoot and pikes formations were able to stand against the high armored cavalry, caused by the rise of living standard of peasants and so could afford better equipment and the formations of various mercenary groups. And it is interesting to see this kind of rise today, were infantry soldiers can be equipped with lethal weapons able to destroy tanks, fight jets and drones. The formations of various mercenaries-groups and the possibility of normal citizen to get arms and combat education (example Taiwan and 3D-Prints made Guns). It is just funny to see that history and future is just a circle of repeats...

My working theory is as time goes by a group gets denouced - such as warriors being barbaric and engaging in gang behavior - so another group has to absorb their role to create order. But then it becomes a bit of a paradox as having both traits and filling both roles might make you prioritize one principle for another which then leaves room for them to be criticized and replaced.

Blurring the lines between those classes is probably a bad idea. Besides, Christianity is such that the things demanded of priests conflict with those demanded of warriors (a warrior must be able to shed blood, while it is scandalous for a priest to do so. Maybe a more violent religion wouldn't have a problem with that... but those are fake and cringe. Actually, come to think of it, that's not a bad description of the Islamic Caliph. There is some space there for a Holy Warrior, though, like a Paladin or Knight of old.

You are very right about the rise in piracy and private military. Most people may not realize, but this is becoming not only a big issue on the open sea, but also in American inner cities. I work as security in downtown Minneapolis, and people have been desperate for security since George Floyd and the collapse of the police department. I have been hired to work along side other security teams that have immerged due to the vacuum created from the lack of law enforcement. These officers are often times ex-police, ex-military or have had training like you did (Which is very smart and I need to do training like that myself) and are very competent, often times more so then law enforcement. The issue hasn't reached extremes of vigilantism... yet. The nice thing about a private security as opposed to law enforcement, is that private security/military do not have to deal with bureaucracy, especially an over bloated bureaucracy that has caused more harm for the community and aids the spike in crime. Private security and military will be in the future for sure, and the west will probably collapse in the next 15 or so years.

Those of you defending nationalism and saying it's actually just about defending one's culture and people have a valid point. The trickiness of language is that literally every word has more than one definition, and the definition I'm using is that of ideological adherence to the Nation State model which has had a bit of a revival recently, but it basically is collapsing for the reasons I mentioned in the video. But my point here is that the destruction of distinct cultures and peoples in one homogenized global culture is also collapsing and not something I support either. Neo-Medievalism is a theory about distinct groups and cultures which are also integrated with each other internationally so it discourages the homogenizing borg-like mentality of globalism while also discouraging the xenophobic tendencies in nationalism. The Nation State itself is a modern phenomenon and one's people predate it and by a lot. The modern nation state itself might actually be hazardous to the well being of one's people in certain circumstances, as it's one of the major factors which encouraged demographic decline. Which is why failed states actually have a higher birth rate. So noticing it's decline on my part is not meant to be taken as criticism of the noble impulse of defending and preserving one's people and culture even if I'm critical of being too ideological in that regard or of the nation state model. However, I'm very glad you were all respectful and thoughtful in your responses, and I'm glad we can still share this space for discussions while not agreeing on every single point.

Based, Nationalism should just be praising and defending your country's culture and identity, as these are our homes and also because there will be no other places like it, it should not be used to proclaim supremacy over others as it defeats the purpose of culture being unique to others if it needs to see itself as better than the rest.

@@wvmcc82 No, it is not. It is a mere human instinct. And instincts and emotions exist because they're useful. Otherwise, they'd have been selected out already. "Xenophobia" exists because the groups that were not "xenophobic" enough, were destroyed by those that were. Like what happened to the Moriori tribe. You have to be loyal to your tribe, and distrusting and hostile towards outsiders. Computer models have demonstrated that groups that are more like this, internally united and cooperative and externally hostile, always win over those that lack these traits.

@@Spur-li7ec Make sure you have access to local supply chains. Locally sourced food and supplies so you don't have to rely on china or another country a thousand kms away for stuff you need when stuff gets real. Other than that, entering a new era in general means that some skills and institutions get weaker and others get stronger. Analyze the skills and institutions associated with you and reflect on whether or not they are becoming more valuable or less, and then try making up for what you think you need. That's why I left academia and entered the private sector. I dabbled in corn planatation and now fish production and will try to sell to my local markets and I'm traveling now trying to learn how to be more self-sufficient. but deep down, the key is community and family. As a bureaucrat I have a personal vested interest in highlighting the value of a bureaucracy in the best possible case; organization. The value a bureaucrat can bring is in processing information quickly and efficiently to be able to find and place things where they are needed when and where they are needed. Logistics networks are the quintessential example of bureaucracy done right; you first quantify what resources are needed where in lists, then you are able to track those resources in the paperwork mind of the bureaucracy to get them where they need to go. A grunt can't get bullets and MREs from the factories to the warzone, a merchant can't get those rare earth elements to the factories and then to your pocket in a smartphone across the world. Yes, you can have the bureaucracy handled as a secondary role from one of the other classes, but all that will accomplish is either an inefficient bureaucracy or a class of bureaucrats hiding in another class. "The best bureaucracy is one you barely notice is there" because it gets you what you need quickly and quietly without drawing attention to itself, while a failing one is going to cause you no end of problems. The is not to say that the current ruling class of bureaucrats is not corrupt and overdue for some dramatic shakeup or revolution, but to write off a whole class of fundamental actors because it is failing here is as silly as writing off all soldiers because most of the military class of the USA lost the civil war.

I agree that Bureaucracy is best utilized when it is streamlined and decentralized and there are few if any career bureaucrats. Only temporary public servants. However, I do think the time of the Bureaucrat’s dominance is diminishing. What will happen next? Which class will take control next? Will they fight it out using their pawns in their wars? These are great questions and only history will tell us in time. P.S. I believe Pilgrim is right that too many people getting degrees and wanting to be apart of the system is a problem. Peace ✌🏻

You might want to look into the late bronze age Mediterranean. The Kings of the bronze age empires relied heavily upon a truly massive number of beaurocrat-scribes to administrate their empires. Many bronze age empires had state-controlled farms, mines and other industries, all directed by the beaurocracy of scribes and priests who served the empire's god kings. The beaurocracies of that time are impossible to truly know, but we do know they existed in some form, and can form educated guesses based on what they wrote down in their ancient lingua-franca, Akkadian. It's not medievalism (archeo-medievalism?), but it is similar to the modern global condition in many regards. Hopefully we don't follow the same path. (Just to be safe, stock up on food, don't live in a palace, and fortify your town against the sea peoples. Can't be too careful.)

@aaronlatif52

In popular culture, we see this in game of thrones and why most people respect the starks. The leader passes the judgement of death by beheading and also the leaders all go to war making war declarations and battles more meaningful. I could be wrong/misguided but I think the warrior class is essentially rule by mafia/gangs in modern spaces. They even traditionally had a certain level of honor and codes - similar to rule by samurai. I couldnt tell you how modern gangs act but judging by cartels and terror groups - with social media, fear is easier to export and therefore brutality is more common.

The warrior mindset ironically forces a lot of people to consider when and how they should be violent. Dictators tend to be rather spineless at heart, the brownshirt types and revolutionaries come from middle class liberal academic backgrounds (often, just from my study of history). When you look at something like the Junker model or chivalric codes that rigid codification is something that enforces positive possibilities. It tells a violent character what to do and restraint, if you look at most Machiavellian autocrats or financially powerful lords; they hardly have any checks whatsoever.

@@MALICEM12 well, yes. If you're talking about objective evil, than the "goddess of power" isn't strictly evil. She IS the villain, though, because she's the obstacle getting in the main character's way. Basically, the relationship between Drakavar (goddess of power) and Felkala (goddess of silence / main character) is that Drakavar adopted Felkala as a child. Drakavar's insane need to be in control leads to try keeping Felkala for herself / preventing her from growing up, since growing up inevitably involves the child leaving the parent. Plus, Drakavar had a very horrible childhood, so she's convinced that Felkala can only be safe while under her thumb. Basically, the story spirals of control when Felkala starts rebelling.... So yeah. The goddess of power isn't strictly evil. She has a lot of kindness, really. However, her big flaw is that she trusts no one but herself to be in control, which leads to her losing a lot of friends and basically ruining her own life.

I guess the bureaucrat has a role. He manages better than the rest. A warrior administers a country like an army, that is, he gives orders, which is not conducive to development. The priest administers, like a ritual, giving importance to ideas, not practicality. The merchant administers so that it is only profitable. (Mainly for him and the like). People don't want to live in the barracks, the temple and the market all the time. A good bureaucrat knows how to reconcile conflicting interests and see the bigger picture. His virtue is understanding. But when it fails, it won't be able to hold back the others.

The fact of the matter is that we are currently falling into the exact same things that we were supposed to be avoiding by opposing communism - centralized power, centralized ownership (we no longer own stuff, we just rent them), corporate (instead of government) monopoly and so on, which is a direct result of taking capitalism to the extreme. Any system taken to the extreme will always lead to the same end. Given enough time, people will learn to exploit it, which leads to the same downfalls, meaning, it's not the systems we choose to govern ourselves that are the problem, it's the people in them. Unless people change and start wanting a better future for their children instead of being selfish, greedy pricks, no matter what system we choose, we will always end up getting fucked.

Is capitalism the free market? Is it the regulated market? I've got news for you, a market exists even in Socialist or Communist countries. Even if mostly in a black market form. Trade is just something that humans do. Capitalism doesn't mean anything. We have a highly planned and regulated economy even if it's not Communist, is that capitalism? I am a bureaucrat. I think you are touching on the "use" of a bureaucrat and why it is in everyone's interests to let us (the bureaucrats) continue to rule, without fully getting there - what Fukyama calls The Bad Emperor Problem*: essentially that the downside of "strong direction" (if the emperor is wrong) is always greater than the upside of "strong direction" (if the emperor is right). This is because most people, most of the time, are good and want to help, heal and promote the happiness of themselves and their friends without making too many enemies, a fantastic leader can't really direct people into making _that_ much better decisions, but a horrible one can direct people into making decisions that are _that_ much worse: convince people that stupid and self-destructive practices will get some payoff in the afterlife, pick fights they can't win or ruin basic food security through malice or neglect: It's easier and quicker to destroy a functioning society than it is to build one. So in other words, we rule as an alternative to priest, merchant or warrior - not because our highs are higher (they probably aren't), but because our lows aren't quite so low. * (said in the context of democracy v autocracy, but applies here too)

Which is kind of a black joke on Marxism, the most well known ideology that utilizes hegelian synthesis. Since Marxism only sees two classes (proletariat and bourgeoisie) and not the four true ruling options (warriors, priests, merchants, and bureaucrats), it supposes that capitalism, which produces the modern proletariat, will give rise to its own end, and the synthesis produced is the global, classless, moneyless, propertyless end state of pure communism, and the end of history. Of course, since in reality this was a false narrative, actually existing Marxist states just became state capitalist entities run by the bureaucrat class who became increasingly divorced from reality. Since it is impossible for workers to rule directly, there must be some intemediary ruling class. The Hegelian model is correct in that systems give birth to their own contradictions, but incorrect that these will eventually lead to a final end of history. The circular model of the Greeks and Romans is more accurate (the anacyclosis). Our systems collapse into neo-medievalism is simply a new beginning, and far in the future you may get a cycling back round to our large bureaucratic empire.

The picture you paint of the future is actually somewhat more hopeful than the one I've been dreading (runaway neo-feudal globalism), so thanks for this. You predict the kind of future that is, if not exactly just, then at least decentralized enough that a small person can go unnoticed enough (if you're lucky) to eek out a fulfilling life. Still, we all deserve God's righteous judgement for the evil we've covered the earth in. Lol.

Your video is excelent but I think you downplay the idea of racial solidarity. People from homogenous populations are simply more likely to function in an orderly way than miscigenated peoples, like we see in Brazil (I'm brazilian too btw). Sure an american, a german, a japanese and a brazilian nationalist can and WILL become allies/friends, but they will still naturally want to segregate themselves withim their racial groups (except maybe us brazilians, because we have no racial group). And don't come saying that most nations aren't racially homogenous enough because that's an oxymoron. When ethno-nationalists talk about "nation" they mean the racial community, not the nation-states. Germany and Austria, as well as half of Switzerland and Belgium are one nation. Civilization has always been comprised of largely homogenous racial groups or divided in several micro-racial groups which are ruled by one more powerful and largely homogenous group (like the Roman Empire). Nations like Brazil, with rampant miscigenation, are and will continue to be exceptions. Therefore, you are right when you say that nation-states are going to die. But nationalism won't.

Ultimately, as you have said it, a new medievalism would be to teh church's advantage rather than globalism.... yet, contrary to this, the church at least in terms of the vatican is more tied up to the globalist stuctures.... at least thats how it seems.

Good stuff as always. One thing I've noticed is that in general, with good reason, people have lost trust in all 4 of these institutions you labeled. While respect for the military in America is not at its all time low, recruitment is very low. The church, well, any time on the internet would show you were trust in the church is. But merchants? I mean most of the complaints I have today involve this profiteering, the cost of buying a home is skyrocketing and products are becoming cheaper and we are aware of the dangers many products have to our long term health just to benefit profits. Well yeah it makes sense people will push for the government to save them through its bureaucrats. I don't see how that's going to change. I can see that these private armies are there but I don't see how they will collapse the nation states back to fiefdoms.

@@matthiuskoenig3378 if the harmful product is untruthfully communicated to be unharmful (as often the case. Many companies take advantage of our high-trust societies and destroy trust for their personal gain. And about "forcing" or compulsion: maybe you've noticed that last year some companies even managed to have people lose their job and liberties if they refused to consume certain products... So yeah, many merchants are causing a lot of damage and they (among others) are to blame.

@Matthius Köenig how did the bureaucracy cause that? I understand it's just supply and demand it just seems across the world the prices did not remain competitive and low as possible as we would hope merchants to do. Instead they could just keep raising prices as enough people seem to be able to meet the price point without having merchants that are targeting the less wealthy.

Nah, bureaucrat emerged way earlier than 200BC. There were 3 separate "eras" of Egyptian empire way way before 200BC, and they all had golden age that turned into decadence and incompetence over next 150-200 years due to insane bureaucracy, which only grew exponentially since there was outside enemy nor a big player and Egypt was largely self sufficient due to Nile, leading to both Soldier and Merchant into obscurity. Egyptian early empire is poster boy for "What happens when Priest and Bureaucrat are only rulers", one building insane monuments that still stand, focusing on the afterlife even more than on living, while the other is bogging down every facet of the society until it's bloated and weak. And this is why, as you even said, people tend to hate bureaucrat. It's the only among 4 "archetypes" that can become obsolete, other 3 are ALWAYS needed, even in stone age, it's only a matter of how needed they are. There's a clear bottom line where bureaucrat isn't needed at all, and clear top line where he's overbearing and doing more bad than good. That being said, there's a top line for all 4 archetypes, any one of them can become overbearing, but even then, I'd still rather live in a society overburdened by any one of 3 other archetypes compared to the bureaucrat one. Really, while they are needed and necessary in civilized world, bureaucrat didn't earn their hate among the plebeans for no reason. At least when a soldier, priest or merchant are f*cking you, you can largely see it, but bureaucrat does it through proxies, keeping his hands clean, until the pot boils and people first start fantasizing about the violent revolution and then perform it. It happened 2 times in the ancient Egypt too, each time Soldier+Priest f*cking the bloated bureaucrat. From what history I know, it seems that 150-200 years mark is REALLY some biological thing where what ever ideals progenitors of the systems had, turns into decadence. Been so thousands of years pre Christ, and we're seeing it now in USA too, the 200 years mark is over, and people are talking about abolishing parts of the constitution while race/gender/culture wars are omnipresent. And from what I've seen in history, it always ends up with bureaucrat dead and violent uprising. Doesn't have to be French revolution, it can be Warrior King like in Rome, or Priest revolution like in Arab spring, but it's bound to happen. If anything bureaucrat proved in the past is that he's incapable of self regulation and preventing his own downfall once he grows too large.

The bureaucrats, as detailed by the Managerial Revolution, and expanded in Ereinreich theory of the Professional Managerial Class, do have power. But I disagree in that their power is behind the Merchants. However, their power has grown exponentially, at a point that they are competing with the Merchants. What we truly are going to see is a class war between the Bureaucrats (the Left) and the Merchants -allied with the traditional Priests- (which is the Right). There is also a gender divide: women side with the Bureaucrats and men with the Merchants. The arrangement is that the Bureaucrats provide social cohesion in a situation where the traditional priests are being delegitimizing (in a collapse of commodity exporter nations); while the Merchants provide for economic growth. However, both classes have not been providing what they promised: the Merchants have destroyed social cohesion without providing for enough economic growth, while the Bureaucrats have turned into a self-serving class. The consequence for this is no social cohesion whatsoever. The solution is the creation of a new priest class from the collapse of the Bureaucratic Class. Thus, a descentralized cultural revolution.

I think you said what I said in my comment better. I just wanted to add that the priest class morphed into a combination of influencer and entertainers. The bible into various narratives supported by the content of the day, mostly being things like movies and shows but certainly not limited to it. And that we are even seeing digital monastaries spring up - no fap being the one that comes to mind of men coming together to sacrifice for a higher pursuit. Mostly curious if you buy that arguement or if you think the priest class must be strictly religious.

@@aaronlatif52 The priest class is characterized by an accumulation of social capital and cultural capital linked to emotional labour. In other words, someone whose social value comes from a place where they have used their time learning how human beings work (which requires being wealthy enough to have "leisure time") will end up acting sort of as a priest. Some priests have traditional been bureaucratic in nature and some weren't. For example, the renaissance Catholic Church of the XV century is the birthplace of the western bureauratic class -not french XVIII century, as it is said in the video-. On the other hand, protestant priestly class is highly descentralized. Influencers, in a similar way to the traditional Hollywood movie stars have their power because of Social Capital (that is, human relationships). Emotional-cultural capital is usally intertwined with Social Capital. This is in contraposition to Technical-cultural capital (like learning to code), which is usually not linked to social capital (sometimes it may be related to financial-social capital; that is, business relations). Cultural Capital accumulation requires demographic growth of the religion. That is, if you have fewer people believing a particular religion, you'll also have fewer priests, who will end up converting fewer people, etc. The complete collapse of american religious establishment during the Bush era (around 2006) partly because of the delegitimation of religion because of the Iraq War implied a collapse of the social cohession that religious communities were able to create in US (this collapse had aleady occured in Europe). Social Media created a technical innovation making the accumulation of social capital cheaper: becoming an influencer is easier than being a Hollywood star. Because of this, there has been a short revival of protestantism in US and religion in general (as it can be seen in the statistics). Some influencers like Jordan peterson and Ben Shapiro were able to reconvert middle aged men who had become atheists in their youths, by reframing christianity in a more rational way (as jungian archetypes, for example). In this context, religion has been interpreted as an identitarian product, not a relation to the sacred. Usually, christianity has been confused with being white or western, which further harmed the ability of christianity in particular to create social cohesion, around 2018. However, this process is ultimately unsustainable because of the gender division of labour: women are usually specialized in the accumulation of emotional-cultural capital. Because young women do not like traditional religions anymore, the ability of them to reproduce themselves is very limited. Because people with high cultural and social capital are being coopted by the bureaucracy (both the public, but specially the private bureaucracy), and because of the extreme global economic inequality, the ability of society to develop from a religious point of view is limited. Once bureaucracies break down, people with high cultural and social capital that are not able to become part of the bureaucracies will redirect their capacities to the masses, and a new religion will be created. I hope I answered your question. What do you think?
@aaronlatif52

@@alangivre2474 Let me reinterpret and add my own conclusion to see if I understood correctly. I think you are saying influencers are acting in place of the priest class but are basically just eating up the cheap void of power from the collapse of organized religion. We are in a transistionally phase and getting primed for a religion to emerge or reemerge or be reinterpreted. Another way of saying it is culture has been decentralized to the point chaos (fighting between groups/lack of basic understanding between groups - I think social media is the tower of babel, where it doesnt seem like we are speaking the same language anymore) and the chaos will result in ideas emerging to reunite - or at least we will fracture and have different areas or demographics unite behind shared belief again. To say that more clearly, religion will either centralize the scraps of a broken state or the various fractured groups will find their own religions to unite behind. Obviously I have my own interpretation but to sum I took your answer as being priest need to be religious and while influencers and the such are eating into the same spaces its not the same uniting forces a religion offers (social cohesion to simplify) on its own. Because really the effects have been the exact opposite the further I think - all the random ideas are polarizing and micro polarizing even the smallest of groups where as religion unites behind certain ideas. I think your breakdown is great btw, Im just not clearly seeing what your answer is so I keep inferring and adding my own thought. Or in other words you connected why I see influencers and stars occupying the same space as priests and you broke down why things are, current trends including demographic/gender splits, and even predicted new religions growing out of when bureaucracy collapses - but Im not clearly seeing if you think the priest class is strictly religious or not, is there room for secular religion from shared culture. Like can Lord of the RIngs, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Mulan, Lion King, Toy Story, ect serve as our shared stories and point to certain concepts that go beyond the secular material world.
@alangivre2474
@alangivre2474 Жыл бұрын
@@aaronlatif52 Yes!! Influencers are indeed acting in the place of the priestly class, but are just eating up the cheap void of power from the collapse of organized religion (and the collapse of spirituality). It is not so much that religion will centralize, but that postmodern ideologies are purely destructuve, not constructive. They are much more focused on destroying the opponent than on building something new. Once everything has been destroyed and we live in spiritual chaos, we will only be able to build something new. Not one religion, probably a myriad of very creative and distinct religions, like in the Hundred Schools of Thought era. Indeed all the random ideas are polarizing and micropolarizing, because we are developing freedom of thought, but we are not developing empathy as a society. So everyone is more focused on being heard than on hearing how people who are different feel. We have gone from children of the Gods to teenagers. So now we are free but narcissistic (sort of like Elon Musk and the way he understands "free speech"). The new religion is different, because we relate to our parents differently when we become adults than we are children: we see our parents as human. Let me add another factor so you understand where I am coming from, climate change. Climate Change has a particular component, that it is material (not cultural) and is not anthropocentric. That is, because of our power, we need to deal with cosmic forces that we have awakened. This implies we need to take ourselves out of the center of the stage, and understand that we are part of something bigger. The story is larger than our own egos. The dismantlement of society, including maybe a nuclear war will also impulse us to undestand that we need to take reality seriously, and open our hearts. This situation will create a feeling that will create social cohesion. And beliefs will be created from this social root. We need to create a story about our place in the cosmos. I do not believe either christianity as it is or "wokism" as it is will be this religion. The first is ageing and it is not finding a way to process this new world. At least not yet. The second is purely destructive (as it seeks to destroy patriarchy, white supremacy, etc), but it is not in a mood of rebuilding society. So I do think that new religions can be "secular". But in a way they have always been in many places of the world. Taoism and Confucianism are a clear example. In the western world, Stoicism and Neoplatonism were also something in the middle between a philosophy and a religion. Does it make sense?
