It really depends on what you're doing, but the M1 chips have a fat battery life, they are quiet, and just super fast. I have bought have 4 of them (for me, assistant, etc) because they are so good for basic use :). If you don't need to do anything to heavy, and M1 air is totally fine. I bought my 2020 M1 air used a couple years ago for 800 bucks, probably way cheaper now

@@JoshMadakor I appreciate your videos because I almost got trapped. When I spoke to an enrollment counselor at WGU I specifically asked them about the certifications and they stated that I have two chances to take the exam for the course then I get the certificate. They failed to mention that the exams I would be taking were the actual certification exams. That would take me forever. I have a B.A. and I've worked in tech support for 10 years. I'm ready to advance but lack that experience or education for more advanced roles in IT. Now I'm trying to decide which degree to get because I've already started at their partner location. If someone has a non technical degree is it even worth it to get the degree that's offered at the business college? Because, from what you suggested it's basic and I already have a bachelor's degree. Maybe I should get a certificate now and then work on the degree at WGU . IDK anyone reading this feel free to give me advice

Congrats Faris. I an currently in a similar scenario. A qualified chef for the last 30 years and decided to change into cyber security. Paid for a cyber security bundle package, which included CompTIA Network+, Security+, CySa+ and PenTest+. I have no experience in IT at all. Have been working hard and have passed the Network+, Security+ and CySA+ on my first attempt on these certificates. Finally working on my PenTest+. As with Faris, I am finding it tuff also to break into IT. I will keep trying and push harder on getting more hands on practice with a home lab network with security software etc. Once again Faris congrats mate. Thanks Josh for a great video, on which gives me that more confidents and push to keep at it and keep applying. Thanks guys

Thank you and Faris Nabeel again for posting this video. The information is a big help to me since i want to change careers and get into tech industry specifically cyber security. The modules in google it support certificate have a few test to answer for each section and some are easy and some are difficult. It is very difficult if you have no computer experience or knowledge about computer's, systems, hardware or software the basics. The information in the Google certification is to high level for someone with no knowledge and I had some basic trouble skills and installing ram, ssd or hard drives, also a lot of things they talk about went over my head it was like they are talking in a foreign language . I just started (course 3 Operating Systems and You) and expected to have it all completed within 1 week. I can tell you this will take 2-3 month maybe if you have no computer background. The course shouldn't be this difficult for a beginner trying to get an entry level position in help desk.

This is just what I needed, I am 99% sure I'm going to be getting an offer from a company but there is a chance I could be taking a $5000 pay cut. I was really wondering if I should negotiate or not but I don't feel I have any leverage at all. I think it is more important for me to get in and get the experience and worry about the money later. The potential pay cut is not even really much off of my check. If you have a different thought let me know.

I am at a help desk role and have close to 3 years of experience in help desk. I got a bit too comfortable at my role since I do enjoy it, but for the last 3 months I've been really pushing my training and certs. I currently am about a week or two out from taking the net+ exam, and after I'll be going straight into Security+ and most likely Cysa+ as well. I can usually spend a couple hours of my work day studying so I'm able to go through the material at a pretty solid pace. In the meantime, I've also been learning Linux at home and also setup a Proxmox home lab to practice with. I'm planning on setting up a media server and trying to get experience with Splunk and a couple other cybersecurity tools with my home lab. Do you think that the certs I've mentioned, along with my help desi experience, and a revamped resume will be enough to at least get me a few interviews and possibly a job as an entry level SOC Analyst? I'd like to do pentesting eventually but I'd just like to at least break into cybersecurity and start getting direct experience by the end of the year.

I could make a whole video on this, but when it comes to IT/Tech in general, most of the time, you're hired based on what you've done in the past--if they think it's similar enough where you'll be able to learn the new job without too much of a learning curve. So to answer your question, they will teach you stuff specific to their environment, but they expect you to know some basics, whether that be the basics of computers or the basics of human interaction, haha

Hey Josh, in your opinion with certs and the biz… b.s. in psych, manager xp in hospitality, and wanted to pursue a career in cyber; I have bills/kids so I used the Army reserves to pay me while getting xp and to help pay for certs, etc. (Currently in Army training to be an IT specialist). I think my options are to get comptiaA+ and help desk job after training for direct IT xp while obtaining more certs, and I recently heard I could skip that step. With my lack of IT xp could I land a job in cyber with connections after getting net+ or sec+, or at the very least can I skip TiaA+ and still shoot for the IT role while getting the net+ or also skipping Net+(just no cert, but still learning), and getting sec+. Bootcamps/WGU to cyber may be hard without having a decent income flow. But that may be an option as well, and i was going to relook into your coursecareers option. I tried to keep it concise, if you can’t get back to me, I still greatly appreciate your videos; thanks man!

For WGU you do the CompTIA exam and it counts as course credit. Plus they give you a free retake.

I tried your home labs on my Mac air m1 and it wouldn’t allow me to download Virtual Box , any advice ?
@JoshMadakor

Ah, yeah. This is the only problem with M1 that I don't like, haha. I recommend doing it in the cloud. In the IT course, we deploy the exact same lab in Azure. There are a bit more hoops to jump through, but it works and has helped a lot of people, hehe

@@JoshMadakorI’m going to use a different computer tomorrow to do it. How do you recommend I put it on my resume? Should i screen record it? Is there a link I can put on my resume for the labs ?

@Josh Madakor - Tech, Education, Career Hi How are you? Is it possible to have a consultation with you about transitioning into the IT field, and the cost for it? Thank you and take care.

Some companies are willing to train and really looking for candidates with a willingness to learn, and strong soft skills. A new analyst would be paired with a mature analyst for months before they would roll on their own.
@PluPerfective

@@SM7SM7SM7 yup, I got trained up and able to do the job. I have certificates to back it up, and making contributions with my linguistic skills. What you say is accurate, I am paired with a mature analyst. The technical skills are learnable easily, but the soft skills is what matters most. In addition, to what the orignal commentor skips is being able to manage fultime job, fulltime work (2x) and make time to study for the grind/learn new skills.
