Super proud of my prospect and friend, Jordan. He worked super hard to get where he needed to be and I only helped him putting his experience on paper. He did all the leg work and landed that sweet remote SOC role. Awesome work!!

@@Cyber.Panda. Honestly tough question to answer, because yes you do learn. In the form of compliance, understanding what logs are being utilized, triaging alerts, and security implementation. My personal opinion, if SOC work is what you want, Level Effect will be the best for that. I'm not paid by them or anything like that. A lot of what I learned in LE, translated over to my current role. LE trains for tier 2/3 SOC work.

Super beneficial interview, Josh. especially the advice on salary. I appreciate the upload. If you haven't already uploaded something similar, I would love to see a video focusing on technical writing and how it applies in cybersecurity, such as documenting a security incident report. For example, let's say a client on our network had non-compliant software installed on their system. How would you go about responding to such an incident? I understand that the specifics and procedures of these written responses can vary greatly depending on the work environment, but being able to write a proper and concise report has been an essential skill for me. Properly documenting an event ensures it is correctly remediated and serves as clear instruction for future reference.

When I was with the DOJ, the reports were fairly straight forward. Date, time, device name, what it had on it, which security policy was affected.

Hi Josh thank you as always for the great content! I graduated with a cybersecurity degree and and got my security+ out of college but was unable to get any cybersecurity roles. After learning that the roles are not entry level, i set out to get experience and slowly worked my way into a digital forensics consultant job in ediscovery after 2 years. What would be the next step to take in order to get a security analyst job or any foot into the door of cybersecurity? I feel so close but very far.

It would be helpful to know whether or not each person you interview had existing security clearance before they obtained their cybersecurity job. I feel like if you have security clearance and a pulse, it’s quite easy to get a cybersecurity job, even with little work experience.

Hey brother, there is no such thing as because I was BLACK, remove that mentality, it hinders your progress in this space, I’m originally from Africa with a strong accent, and I unapologetically don’t care but put me with and Indian, a Chinese in the same lab environment I will hold it down and crush it-just come to think of it, if you were an Indian would you have said this same thing. If you are good you are good, apparently there was someone better on the interview. Go back and retool yourself, up-skill,apply yourself, do more labs, brush up on soft skills, engage more thank me later.
