For the off-roading talked about in the video, *torque* is much more important than horsepower (you want to slowly crawl up the giant hill, not accelerate on flat ground). Which actually sets it apart even more from all the combustion motors.

For crawling with an EV you really want to know what's the holding torque and stall of the motor (yes, electric motors can stall) The real challenge will be keeping traction, because wheel speed goes up real fast when you slip with a direct drive

@@riccardo1796 look up the video of Tesla in Alaska. About a 10 minute video about Tesla and they're facility in Alaska to develop the winter driving capabilities. One of the segments is about riding on is with snow. And make a evasive manouvre with assistance software and without. This show Tesla really has a good handle to not slip out. It really baffles me how they do it. Have seen ICE cars do it aswell in many video's and never really have seen anything like it. Atleast like what it looks to be doing.
@richardlinares6314

I was thinking the same thing haha. I drive an EV and the most noticeable thing to me is the torque when slowly driving up a hill. When I'd slowly drive up steep hills in an ICE car it would have to hit whatever RPMs to even start moving. EVs seem to have effortless power in that department.

Great job explaining the drive train on my 4X4. I learned something today. About the Cyber Truck (Dual motor on order) , if I was rock climbing and wanted enough clearance to keep all the wheels on the ground without scratching the skid plate, but wanted to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible, I can see a sensor system that monitors the clearance and adjusts the suspension height on each wheel independently. Rock Crawling mode could be engaged at low speeds. How would you like that Sandy?

Tweet this to Elon. RIGHT NOW. He might just put a coding team on it and it might end up as part of an update.
@JasonWW2000
@JasonWW2000 4 жыл бұрын
There is no sensor that can do that, plus the air system is not fast enough to compensate. When you are going over rocks the suspension is bouncing so the ride height is in constant fluctuation. A computer can not compensate. Your best bet to adjust the height yourself.
@briansilver9652
@briansilver9652 4 жыл бұрын
@@JasonWW2000 As a retired instrumentation tech, I can think of several sensors that could be candidates. Optical sensors/IR sensors, can detect an object that blocks a path in a straight line. If they were placed on the wheel mounts they could cross the belly pan/skid plate in an X pattern and left to right. For more coverage I would try a capacitive/inductive sensor that would use the entire skid plate as the sensing surface. As the sensor comes in proximity to a object, it provides an analog feedback that can be triggered. This would be less localized unless the skid plate was divided into multiple capacitive proximity sensors, perhaps one for each quadrant. And I did stipulate that it would be at slow speeds, I mean rock crawling slow speeds, so bouncing would be negated. Don't assume that because nobody is offering such a thing that it is not possible, especially for Tesla.
@johnbuchman4854
@johnbuchman4854 4 жыл бұрын
@@briansilver9652 I agree--this can be sensed and thus individual wheel heights controlled in real time. Please do get this to Elon and Sandy (pays to have a backup channel!) As a real time SW Engineer, this would be quite fun to work on, with Sandy doing the test driving!

Ground clearance: I thought there was a second side to this. Vehicles with 16 or 18 inches of ground clearance are fantastic for off-road, but the trade off is potential instability on the highway. However the CT has the best of both worlds, since it can then "lower" the suspension on the pavement, to somewhere around 8 inches? Making it better than most "regular" trucks! It's gonna be good boys and girls :D

Took a good driver to stay alive on a 15 ton tractor being pushed down a ski-type slope by 20 tons of logs on hard snow trails, then get the load stopped at a landing with a 30 meter sheer drop at the far edge.

I really like the schematics, that are overlaid, when Sandy points to something.

Great work to you and your team. I’ve been learning so much since I’ve started watching your channel. I’m sure that the folks at Tesla are watching your channel to come up with an off road vehicle that will blow the competition away.

Are we excited Sandy??!! LOL I've not seen you so pumped up! Now, it's time to loose the mask. You are in the building almost by yourself when videoing!

Cybertruck is already beating the competition and it’s not in production yet!

well yah, anyone can say their vehicle can do this or that, what matters is how itll actually preform after being on the market and in use for a while

The "Cyber truck" does not exist, what you saw on the show was most likely model X with uglier body panels. No data was provided about the power train, no data about the suspension, windows already failed the absurd claims, the concept vehicle has no mirrors, no wipers , no legal head and tail lights and its 5% bigger according to you know who! All this makes it a glorified golf cart. What Munro is talking to is in his fantasy! This is a badly disguised commercial meant to keep the fire on so someone can keep takeing deposits from as many fools as possible, untill they figure out how to produce something that kind of looks like what they showed. But keep dreaming.

Shikarasanirbud'dhi that’s a 90% fair assessment. This show is good but it would be better having the actual vehicle to prove its details. But part of any new product is preproduction hype. So before disqualifying the cybertruck outright, let’s be excited about the possibilities and patiently wait for it to hit the road.
