GM has the best towing EV truck on their hands. We shall see if they produce in any meaningful quantities. On my end, I just need an everyday truck and the best software in the business. Tesla has its quircks (I've been driving one for 4 years) but they are by far the best everyday driver. Can't wait for my CT.

Marquess Brownlee just did a new Cybertruck video and he gave stats for F150 drivers on how often they tow, according to themselves. They basically don't. Ever. And why would you when you think about it? You bought the pickup so that you can throw stuff in the back easily, and no normal human business owner or not, needs more space than that regularly. If you do, you buy a lorry or other goods vehicle. Who needs the full space in a pickup bed, and also a trailer of some kind on a regular basis? No-one, by their own admission.

If Tesla has proved anything, is that the first batch is the tryouts. 2gen will get a boost of range, while 3rd will get a price decrease. 4th gen will do both. So yeah right now the cyber truck is faster and has the charging infrastructure going for it. But in 8 years will out range, out tow and out do anyone else's product. Except for interior design lol.

They could already out range everyone if they wanted. It would cost more and they would produce less trucks because of 4680 supply but they could. In 5 to 10 years they will offer a "Commercial" package with crazy range for actual towing. By then who knows how insane battery tech will be. There will be a crazy leap in energy density one day, it could be 2 years or 40 though.

I think they underestimated how long 4680's would take to dial in. It will happen. It will probably take 5 years for some to get their reservation anywho. Id want the 2029 version vs today. Its new new now. I want a dialed in perfected version of everything in it. Takes time for that. @@bearlemley

I think they will, the problem could had been being a little too optimistic. Like I'm sure in a perfect world, the battery factory would had been completed way before hand, 4680would had shown progress out of the gate so that by second year around, gen 2 batteries would had been out for Y and 3, covid never happened so no slow downs or economic inflation to happen. etc..etc... in classic Elon fashion, the cybertruck would have been a year late from his estimate call, but it would had Gen 3 cells of the 4680, most likely producing what was promised or extremely close to it. I personally always felt that given the specs of the 2nd gen roadster, in order to hit 620 miles of range, SSD batteries or something equal to them, would had to been created. Because given how much smaller that car is vs a Model S, how would 4680 cells hit that required range or get close. Once covid happen, I think it was safe to say that none of these things would happen at the rate he thought was possible. @@bearlemley

I had to explain to someone else on another video who felt that EV pickups and Semis were a waste because they can't outperform what is out now. I basically had to break down how any company who now has affordable for the every man's vehicles, started with an expensive over blown car or racing/performance car. These EV trucks are the ford rapors the Dodge Ram TRXs etc...and that down the map the true EV version to a work truck will come out. But someone has to fund the technology first. Otherwise you'll have a cybertruck that can do 600 miles, two 20K lbs for the low low price of 480,000 dollars lol @@Bryan-fb8dh

I'm not surprised that the Cybertruck would outsell its established competitors from Ford and Rivian. Since the 70s image has become a bigger factor in truck sales than actual utility, and in the minds of most pickup buyers EVs have the wrong image. With the Cybertruck, Tesla has created a new image that is tough and futuristic and will appeal to buyers in a way that the F-150 Lightning will never appeal. It may not be my cup of tea, but I understand why people want this.

Love the teeny Aptera sticker in the background, Drew! This is a useful analysis, though I live in a different market (UK) so these pickups are not really intended for us. I've got to say, though, that a Cybertruck as an IT service vehicle is equal parts brilliant and overkill - it'll definitely get noticed, but there have to be better uses of space for that job! I've been in R1T and F150 Lightning (yes, they're over this side of the pond) - the Ford makes the Rivian look small! I know someone who had a reservation down for Cybertruck, before they yoinked it from UK (along with RHD S/X), so I've never been in one. With the Ford and Rivian, the space inside seemed similar, though the outside wasn't, and I thought the R1T gave better visibility from the driver's seat - YMMV, I'm 6'2" / 240-ish lbs. Do you or anyone here have a relative experience between them and the Cybertruck? Anyway, thanks for the content, it's always useful to watch 😎👍

What interests me is how do they know it was those 15 trucks? If true, that implies that their records tell them what torque was used on those, and it was wrong for some reason, and they can track it, which is wild. We know that their vehicles display what has and hasn't been done on the screen while they're building it, which is insanely clever (its not, but it is if you compare it to legacy autos complete lack of innovation). Perhaps the tools they use automatically record their data as you use them - that might be perfectly possible with a mounted tool at a particular work station - my guess would be they'd use air powered tools that are probably cabled. Or he could have been fibbing of course. If you'd told me in the 80s that cars would be able to display tyre pressure, live, while you're driving I'd have told you you were taking the Michael. :D

Cybertruck has so many firsts for any vehicle in particular drive by wire which as with "octavalve" could become an industry standard as has now played out with the Tesla charging network still pretty much impossible to bet against Tesla at the moment with Ford and Rivian no doubt holding back on production to try and make improvements on the line. GM has no "line"(production) to improve upon as of yet but maybe this Fall that will change. The biggest threat to the extant pickup truck market remains the Ford F150 hybrid in my view for premium buyers. The current glut of pure play ICE platform product in the USA which is only growing btw is truly incredible to see play out. The new Ford Explorer still remains therefore the most important vehicle launch for Calendar Year 2024 this Year although Cybertruck is right up there suddenly absolutely.

However, I always giggle when Tesla enthusiasts covering the EV space throw out the fact that traditional OEMs selling EVs through a dealership network will inevitably have their consumers gouged on price when it comes to low volume high demand EVs, while in the same breath glossing over Tesla's current production volumes + demand, and inevitable price hike related to whatever new EV model they've just launched (as evidenced with the Foundation Series CT)... Right, tomato/tomato 😂😉🤫 It's the law of supply and demand, and all new EVs are impacted by it regardless of OEM and selling strategy. If anything, I blame consumers and their willingness to buy at inflated prices to have the newest thing to flex with. While I'm happy to sit it out until prices stabilize for new things I want/desire, many aren't, thus inflated pricing for the newest hotness. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Even with the cuts ford is still out selling tesla each week, let me know when Tesla hit 4,000 units a week. With a price tag 🏷 of 100,000 demand is going to be low for tesla. Ford is only loosing money 💴 because the Battery 🔋 production lines cost so much and you need a lot of battery built before you pay off the plant plus ford had boosted production of battery plant then fuel price dropped / and interest rates went up two reasons for drop in demand 2025 is update is coming heat pump

Ford sold 24,000 F-150 lightning in 2023 and have a lot of inventory at dealerships. They are hoping to make 1,600 a week in 2024 so that inventory is going to get huge. If Tesla double output per quarter they could reach 90,000 in 2024 and sell all of them.

Why? Average full size ice pickup truck sold in 2023 was over 63k, ev trucks are 78k on average. Imo they need a trim similar to the lightning flash around 75k&eligible for the full $7,500 tax credit, that would be the $ maker trim. Leave the cyberbeast tri motor in the stratosphere and concentrate on the lower spec&price trims to hit 200k+in sales. 👍🏻😎

Best selling EV Pick up truck in 2024 isn't shocking because, well, Rivian sucks lol (Also Ford clearly also sucks at EV trucks because they have their own set of issues). It's tesla, but doesn't really mean much because production is low relative to other Tesla production... Let's see how this sells in 2-3 years from now once they catch up on production. Also, it has a ton of BAD press/issues... the rusting issue is definitely a major PR issue IMO. Even if it's solved by wrapping" to fix, the fact that you have to wrap it is just bad design. Hopefully they solve the issue soon if not already.

Sales are what they have delivered to customers. Currently all deliveries are foundation models which cost $100,000-120,000. When foundation orders cease they will mainly sell the 4WD which after tax credit is $72,500.. By mid next years they will be selling the RWD base model for $52,500. Tesla is very good at cutting production costs so end of 2025 base model could be going for $45,000 and still making a profit. By 2026 they will be churning out 5,000 a week and that will cut into Ford and GM profits. The Silverado does look good and has a huge battery but GM has deferred production. I don´t think GM can afford to sell to many Silverado EV.

@@robertwoodhouse-bm7kt I'm just looking at unpaid liabilities. (what are they claiming on their books). People with "reservations" have only put down 100 dollars. People who have been told they need to finance the rest of the order (or buy up-front), I would consider 'ORDERS'. Reservations mean little to nothing, if it's only 100 dollars. Tesla (Elon), has had a history of overstating actual sales, THEN coming up with something new to invest in, to pay for the previous shortfall. The Silverado looks fantastic, but I don't think its going to make it to production.
