You should have mentioned that the extra $20K for the Foundation Edition includes the FSD, upgraded wheels, lifetime internet connection, white interior, and other accessories because many people think the $20K is just the Foundation Signature price.

And only half of those things are actually present on the truck right now. It's a mess...and not everyone cares about the upgrades. The wheel upgrade will be very popular because the other looks terrible haha. Otherwise, I think take rate on FSD has collapsed, given the ongoing price drops on it. Dont think Cybertruck is any different for demand on FSD personally.

I put a deposit on my Cybertruck 6/28/2020 just before the price of FSD went to $8,000, so 7-8 months after the announcement. 6/4/2024 I got the e-mail "Your Limited-Edition Foundation Series Cybertruck is Ready to Order". It is rather disappointing to me that it does not have the 500 mile range that i was expecting. I'm also not wild about the extra $13,000 cost (above the $7,000 then for FSD) that the Foundation Series commands. While I love the tech, I think I will pass until they get past the Foundation Series price bubble. Even though it may be a couple of years before my number comes up again.
@BeardedTeslaGuy6 ай бұрын
I think it's rational to pass on FS. It's a lot of money extra, and because of the tax credit, it's really another $7,500 on top of the $20k. Not everyone cares about FSD either, so paying to get it now is normal, it's just that Tesla is the one collecting the upcharge rather than the used market.

Good video! Your comments are pretty even-handed, even if you cut it a lot of slack for the things it doesn't do yet. It doesn't have a battery extender available, and may never have. It doesn't have Autopilot or FSD, even months after release. Given the slow pace of replacing radar, USS, and rain sensor with a fully functional vision system in the high-volume cars, it's quite possible you'll be waiting a really long time on this much-lower-volume product. (For the sake of everyone that bought into CT, hopefully not) Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. I've heard that it looks better in person than on camera, but after finally seeing one, I have to disagree. It's much shorter than I expected it to be (rocker panel to roof), giving the vehicle an odd proportional look. It looks like an El Camino was left alone with a refrigerator, and that's an unfair comparison to an El Camino. If given $100,000 to buy a truck, it would be 1) Lightning, 2) Rivian, 3) Silverado (maybe), ... 9) CT. With the money saved by going with #1 over #9, I could build a garage that would fit a full-sized truck! But that's just my one opinion, and I'm glad that you're so thrilled with your choice. I'm also glad that you aren't taking the annoying superfan approach of accusing those who wouldn't choose it for themselves of being wrongheaded in some way. If it's your money and it works for you, that's great!
@BeardedTeslaGuy6 ай бұрын
exactly, we need an EV for everyone, and the CT wont be everyones cup of tea. For me and many others though, even ones who hate the look, we can all appreciate what it represents and some of the new capabilities it is bringing to the truck space. It's such an exciting vehicle on that alone. We truly are living in a cool era where we get to see this new tech take hold of the mainstream, and I love it.

🤔...good video and info and glad you're enjoying your Cybertruck. Huge wlephant in the room though looks/maker aside SilveradoEV which you have experienced that has better range with towing in mind with better utility/capability not to mention bigger cabin/frunk for thousands less and you also don't have to pay an additional $16k for additional range which also takes away the most important part of purchasing a truck is your bedspace. Even Rivian now has upped its range to 420 miles without compromising the bedspace and having a full-size spare tire compartment this is what utility looks like. Soon we'll have the SierraEV, the RamEv and the FordT3 all trucks that take its end users needs in mind to deliver utility/capability and range not far off from what they are being asked to replace it with for thousands less than what the Cybertruck offers. I like the Cybertruck for the same reason I purchased my current Raptor at the time its because it was different but it didn't compromise what a truck should be whereas the Cybertruck to me does. As you mentioned, majority if not all of the Cybertruck owners never owned a truck so it doesn't matter to them but for a person like myself who wanted to replace my Raptor for it I can't get there because it's not even equal to what my Raptor I'm want to replace it with or any other truck if someone was coming from a truck and was using/relying on the capabilities of the truck. As always, it's great to have the Cybertruck as a choice because at the end of it its about replacing a gas vehicle and that should be the focus but even with that as I'm still looking at my invite to order the Cybertruck its disappointing that I can't because I would be paying thousands more with less capability/utility than what I got and with what's coming out like the SilveradoEV trailboss and SierraEV AT4 along with FordT3. And we all know that the rear wheel drive Cybertruck most likely will never see the light of day because pricing like now for the Cybertruck with comparable vehicles doesn't make sense unless it's just what you want no matter what which is just fine also if price is irrelevant. Good video and glad you are enjoying your Cybertruck and most importantly it works for you for what you need.
@BeardedTeslaGuy6 ай бұрын
I understand your point on a couple categories where other trucks have better specs, but there are PLENTY of areas where the Cybertruck outshines all of those. I would say FSD, but it doesn't even have Autopilot yet 🤦♂️ This truck is fast, has tons of utility on and off the road, has an actually secure bed (makes it more like an SUV for hauling personal belongings). It has steer by wire which is next level, and the ride is so much more comfortable than both the Silverado AND Rivian. Silverado is a decent comparable for someone really looking for a truck, they are much closer in size. The Rivian is just too small inside. That small bed is fine for general stuff, but doesn't have a lot of practical use for hauling otherwise. CT also has highest payload/towing combination, which is a huge plus. End of the day, all of these trucks have a thing or 2 that is better than the others. Like you said, the thing that matters the most is having an option for everyone. Less ICE more EV's on the road is the win!

As a Tesla owner (Model 3) since 2018 and now a new Model X at the end of 2023, I'm passing for now on my early CT reservation. I've learned that like every model Tesla has made they only get better and cheaper a few years into production...CT will be no different. 2024 is just for bragging rights! I flip vehicles every 3-5 years anyways so by the time I'm getting bored with the X we'll see what the CT pricing and options are, but also highly considering the Rivian R1S.

@BeardedTeslaGuy5 күн бұрын
Things have finally normalized a bit
@ronniemcknight31746 ай бұрын
So, a couple of things. If you are comparing to an ICE truck, there are compromises that shouldn't be overlooked. That bed, with the high yet sloping side walls, is difficult to maneuver and makes it less practical, no matter how much you lower the suspension. That tall tailgate, when opened, while it gives you more real estate to haul, it's kind of hard for many people to reach inside the bed while open. I dread not having a full size spare. With this, if I want one I compromise bed space. And it doesn't tow very far in comparison. All that said, I think it, like most of the other EV trucks, should be in a separate category as I don't think the comparisons I just mentioned are fair. For what it is, I think it is a home run and likely great at what it's meant for. I too, like mentioned in the comments, got my configuration email on 6/4 and got a vin# assigned. I will take delivery with an open mind and not think of it as a replacement for my RAM, but an adjustment (to your point) to my lifestyle and how I do things or what things I do. Thanks for the videos.

Honestly I think it's a super cool vehicle, but I feel like it should have been presented more as a novelty like the Roadster than a mainline product. And a few things made it seem like that was the original intention. As far as a mainstream truck is concerned, I do have to concede that the truck guys were right about towing, or at least distance towing. Not sure if creating a separate "mainstream" truck would help much with some of this. But I do think it would be cool if they sold separate limited-run novelty versions of the cars in their lineup. Like a Cyber X which would basically be a mammoth electric DeLorean. A SpaceX Roadster with the rocket booster but also some sort of space-like styling.

Looking at the large pillar at the front that blocks off visibility, any kid riding a bike, cyclist, and pedestrians is a deal breaker for me. Full autonomous driving is mandatory in this case! Adding decreased range... I hope that improvementsI will be made in the next generation... I have to wait another 2 years or so minimum anyway.

Yea, in many real cases, not edge cases, visibility is an issue. cameras and safety features need to be activated to help avoid an accident
@gfleck4667 ай бұрын
I just don't find it to be a big an issue as some. It's definitely something to be aware of and adjust a little how you look but then again I rely more and more on the cameras which give a way better and more accurate real time picture than my glancing all over ever will. Collision avoidance seems to work also as it engaged for me the other day when I want paying attention. When people ask me about the visibility, I tell them that if I were playing real life, frogger and I was the frog, I would rather be crossing a freeway full of cyber trucks than any other vehicles. With the cyber truck, people like to pick on little individual things at the expense of looking at the whole picture.

Any ETA for the Range Extender for your truck? Realize its eats up bed space but personally I'm fine with it. Especially if I got the tent. Which I'll be the first to admit isn't cheap but not far off or even cheaper than most new pop roof tent set ups.

If you're getting roughly 81-84% of the 320 EPA range at 80 mph (which is actually better than I thought it'd be). Then with the range extender you could get 380 to almost 400 miles/charge at 80 mph out of it's 470 claimed which would be great.

Something not addressed in detail here is the level of build quality. I understand that it is tough to say too much with a sample size of one unit. A Cybertruck which I saw parked at a restaurant had rather uneven panel gaps and sighting along the belt line, the sheetmetal looked a bit wavy. I also noticed those gaps where the front facia meets the fender, and the gaps were pretty wide. I’m curious about how it will go in regions who use winter road chemicals. Those gaps look like they could be water traps. 300 series stainless is not completely impervious to salt water. I appreciate the thoughtfulness which went into this video and would be interested in seeing a six month or year later follow-up on how well the Cybertruck is holding up. At the very least, the Cybertruck will serve as a catalyst to get other manufacturers to step up their game. We’ve already seen Rivian respond by changing their R1T/R1S 2025 model year battery architecture to lithium iron phosphate and the electrical topology to a zonal architecture echoing Tesla’s.

I haven't had a spare tire for 4 years now. It's pretty normal these days but I understand why it may be concerning for people not used to it.

You should have mentioned range right along with describing towing, a load like that would burn through lots of juice.

Obrist has developed a couple of different range extenders offering between 134 and 268 hp, but the one fitted to the Tesla consists of a two-cylinder, 1.0-liter gasoline engine and a small electric motor, plus a much smaller battery than originally fitted to the Model Y. It’s claimed to deliver fuel consumption of just 2.0 lt/100km (118 US mpg/141 mpg Imperial). Zero vibration coin demonstration 20:1 compression ratio methanol fueled Tesla $16K REX will be mediocre for towing. The REX interface could be hacked to allow a diesel or gas REX with a lot more range, lighter, cheaper. Of course Tesla can't do it to protect reputation but it makes sense for the 1% who do extreme towing to remote locations. And the GHG emissions from some people doing this is much less than the reduced emissions from mass EV truck adoption. And it will allow the low range Cybertruck options to sell more, thus saving batteries and speeding EV adoption. Most truck miles are urban short commutes which EV's can do 4-5X more efficiently which will reduce oil demand massively. REX enabled trucks will be very important and making it an option is the smartest strategy. 500-1000 miles easy with 50 gallons of diesel fuel for much less weight than the battery REX. If it helps EV truck adoption it will be better overall.

I put my name down on July 19, 2020 to get a cyber truck, finally got the email last Sunday to configure the foundation series. There is no way it’s worth the $20,000 markup. I will wait way longer to get a non-foundation series, cyber beast. In the meantime, I have put on 89,000 miles in my model Y long range that I got exactly 3 years ago, it’s been fantastic.

hmm...I think the seats are ample. I think they are stiffer than the model y though, which is why I still enjoy the comfort of the Model Y seats.

Your range complaints are of your own making. You said you drive at 80 mph. If you are driving that fast while towing a CyberTruck, no wonder you're only getting 100 miles. Drivinv that fast while towing is also illegal in most places. Therefore, your problem with charging stations not being close enough is a result of your driving choices. I have towed numerous times with my Model Y on toad trips and while pull throughs are scarce, NEVER been unable to charge. I have also towed a 5th Wheel and finding fossil fuel stations can also be a problem.

The price is ONLY high right now. Tesla hasn't even scaled up production. Your final issue is the issue us early Tesla owners went through already. When we got our first Tesla, a 2018 Model 3 LEMR, i always got questions.

@BeardedTeslaGuy towing with custom fairing to shield the trailer will improve range. A Cybertruck vs F150Lightning comparison test with the same trailer proved that. The Cybertruck aero advantage becomes a disadvantage during towing.

Try towing a decent sized RV and see how you do with the towing. Towing an aero truck with another aero truck doesn’t give the best representation on towing. Yes you might have the weight but wind resistance would be the biggest negative. Range extender will reduce the bed and payload and I bet it never comes to fruition unless Tesla thinks other manufacturers are outselling them because of the range. They would likely be better off coming out with cyber truck 2.0 and a larger battery
@solarguy48506 ай бұрын
75% of truck buyers never, ever tow. Of the 25% who do tow, 1/2 always tow less than 100 miles. This means this first generation of BEV trucks can address the needs of 85% of truck buyers.
@havnfunb46 ай бұрын
@@solarguy4850 I agree with you but people tend to buy based on what they think they need and not want to worry about range anxiety. My original comment was based on what was being towed in the video and I don’t think the range extender is the solution or if they will even come out with one. Most likely add a larger battery in the next iteration if that’s what people want. I have a V8 Sierra in which I bought mainly for towing an RV. Do I need the truck 98% of the time? No. And I wish I had an EV due to the fuel consumption and costs as I drive around the city 98% of the time and we have parked the RV on a seasonal lot due to the fuel prices here in Canada. I have paid for a deposit on a 2025 Silverado EV and think that is my best option and I’m looking forward to ordering a lower model as I don’t need all the bells and whistles but I’m looking for something with decent range while towing.

Comparing this to a p51 is like comparing an a320 to a lato - which is to say it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. It represents an overgrown sedan - any real work you would want to do with a real truck it cannot do, sub 8ft is the tip of the iceberg. Steer by wire means you are basically guaranteed to die in the event of a power failure while in motion. Towing an 11k lb camper I would be surprised if you made 75 miles which just isn't going to work in large swaths of the country, not to mention how long it would take you to actually get anywhere with the incredibly frequent stops. Basically every (semi-practical) application you could make up for it is better served by an SUV, van, or real truck (as in a vehicle that can actually tow something of a reasonable weight up grades and not be parked to charge as long or longer than it is in motion). As far as I can tell, about all it's good for is an oversized, overpriced, status symbol with severely limited utility.
