By that logic: the Mercedes S class is a bad vehicle? No: the problem is that it cost a lot to repair these vehicles because these vehicles have so much in them. These vehicles have lots of sensors and equipment packed very tightly. Getting into an accident, basically causes tremendous amounts of damage.
@alex1vid2 ай бұрын
@PassportBrosBusinessClass You're both right 😂. But there's even more because it goes into the items involved in repairs beyond parts or hourly labor. It's also political. Right to Repair is a big deal people sleep on and I hope citizens keep fighting for it. Having great training for vocational schools and local garages is super important and can actually help control skyrocketing dealer repair costs. But also - there's no 'cap' to cost. Not arguing there should or shouldn't be one just that it's true. So like you say, today's vehicles have so many computers and sensors it adds up and makes it difficult to repair and if hourly work is at about or over $150, not including parts... it's tough. I like a lot of evs personally but avoid them because of direct costs and the indirect ones (insurance), and while I'm a pretty good driver, man you know what? A lot of people aren't 😅😅 So to get it totalled out and need a new vehicle and even higher premium... no thanks.

Regarding EV recharging costs. Just today, around noon, an EV charging station company that had over 10,000 charging stations has filed for bankruptcy. So, in the space of just a few hours, it went from a company with 10,000(+) charging stations to a company with -0- charging stations.
@dzerresАй бұрын
My Cybertruck's build quality is just fine - there are many, many more recalls on Ford, GM and Ram trucks. Maybe charging on Superchargers is equivalent to gas in some places but 99% of charging occurs at home overnight on reduced rates. I'm paying about 1/8th of what it costs an ICE truck to go a mile. That said in last weeks snow outages in Colorado I plugged some extension cords into my Cybertruck and ran them into the house to power my coffeemaker, my on demand hot water heater, my cellphone chargers, etc. Did that for 24 hours. Thanks, Cybertruck! I will now purchase the EV to house reverse charging setup that comes standard with a Cybertruck. You purchase a cyber truck for $100,000, you pay premiums of $5000/yr, you own it for 2 years so you have paid insurance $10,000 in premiums. You have an accident and the vehicle is not repairable due to materials used to manufacture it. Insurance pays out $80,000-$90,000 to total it. They salvage it and get back $20,000. Total you paid out as the insured $10,500 (incl your $500 deductible) total insurance company profited $30,500 total insurance company paid out $90,000. GREAT VIDEO!!! People don't realize what actually goes into repairing these modern day vehicles. Just for perspective, headlamps range from $1000-$6000 EACH, a grille can run $800-$3000 and a bumper cover $1000-$3000. Not to mention another $2500-$5000 in calibrations for the safety systems. I don't think the weight increases the insurance cost. Out of all my vehicles, my Wrangler 4 door is the heaviest. My annual full coverage with high liability? $325 a YEAR. Tesla is famous for refusing to sell parts to anyone but Tesla repair centers and Tesla approved body shops. One reason for totals is that Tesla approved body shops are way backed up. So repair will exceed the max time the insurance company will allow, so they total it. That used to be the thing with Lotus Elise/Exige. Get a minor front or rear crash and a new "clam" was required. Lotus required full replacement. Backup for these from England was over 6 months. Then time to repair. Nope. Totaled.

I really don’t think that anybody who spends between 100,000 and $200,000 on a car like the cyber truck is tremendously worried about resale value. The mere fact that they were willing to spend that kind of money on an electric vehicle in the first place tells you that they probably have enough money that resale value doesn’t worry them. I would also think that in the years to come, the cyber truck may actually increase and value since I seriously doubt a vehicle like that will ever be built again. No other company is going to build a vehicle like the cyber truck. The new electric trucks that are coming out look like regular trucks aside from their electric vehicle heritage. The cyber truck may end up holding its value like the DeLorean .

Lucky: don’t think that insurance companies refusing to insure the cyber truck is a bad thing. On the opposite, it’s a good thing for the cybertruck and its owners. Anybody who buys a cyber truck obviously is spending a tremendous amount of money to buy one. What they don’t want is other people being able to get a cyber truck less expensive because then it makes their truck less rare. These people obviously have enough money to not only afford the cyber truck, but to afford the insurance and whatever maintenance comes with it. That means that they want rarity and they want everyone to be excited when they see their cyber truck. If you see too many cyber trucks, it becomes mundane.

The Model S and X refresh were launched, very competitive pricing at around 75-85K, then balloned all the way up to near 120K. Fast forward, the X is now sub 70K (including the 7,500 credit at point of sale). I have a CT reservation, recently received an e-mail to configure non-foundation, however the CT is not currently listed on the IRS website (for the 7,500 credit). At 72,500 I believe the CT is a good deal. Tesla may price drop it further to boost Q4 earnings 🤔. The insurance industry is in lock step w/the auto/oil industry, raising EV insurance premiums to make it unnafordable. I have a Model Y, my wife has a Model 3, both are on Tesla insurance, no issues thus far.
