In 2009, we had a brand new top tier Fleetwood 42' class A diesel pusher come into our shop on it's inaugural run by new owners. We were a class A (old Monaco dealer) not a Fleetwood dealer at all but we dealt with all makes for repairs. The complaint was that the galley overhead cabinets had pulled away from the wall and in danger of falling completely off. After inspection we found ONE small lag screw holding the cabinets to the outer framework. After pics and calls to Fleetwood requesting warranty to repair this, Fleetwood said 'no, it needed to come back to the factory for repair.' Not even to the closest Authorized Fleetwood dealer, but to the factory. From central Washington. We never found out if it made it... Say no to Fleetwood products.

@eddiegerlach7121 we had an old 2001 (original conpany) Monaco 42' Signature. Bought it, first cross country run, in Wyoming, 90° in the evening, dash air went out. Turned on the genset to use roof airs. Roof airs wouldn't work either. Sold it after having it less than a year.
@eddiegerlach712128 күн бұрын
@@iii9266 sounds unfortunate..usually if the roof airs wouldn't work, it was usuallynthe result of that God-awful 4 button tstat... I had mine rebuilt, as they were no longer in production. Yes, things do go wrong even on the older ones, but if I were to get one again, it'd be an older, well-cared for one. I've seen enough horror stories to steer clear of the newer ones.
@rvfigs2747Ай бұрын
The "dash bounce" issue in Fleetwood's Class A motorhomes has gained significant attention among folks who own a Fleetwood Class A gasser. This long-standing problem, which has affected models like Bounders, Flairs, and Southwinds for years, is rooted in Fleetwood's engineering approach to securing the front sidewalls to the chassis. Fleetwood's method relies on 90-degree angle brackets secured with self-tapping screws, typically about 1.5 inches long. Unfortunately, these screws are often insufficient in number, with some rigs reportedly having as few as one or two per side. Sometimes these self-tapping screws are completely missing, because they either snap off or are not install from the factory. Underneath the wheel well, another 90-degree metal bracket attempts to "secure" the sidewalls to the floor, again using self-tapping screws. This inadequate securing method can result in visible gaps where the wall meets the floor, allowing daylight to penetrate. Additionally, the belt line trim conceals more self-tapping screws, approximately 1 inch in length. Contrary to initial perceptions, in some cases, it's not the dash that's moving but the actual sidewalls, which can move vertically, creating a disconcerting and potentially dangerous situation. While Fleetwood advertises "interlocking walls," this system doesn't extend fully from front to back; if it did, the gaps allowing light through the floor wouldn't exist. The issue could easily be resolved by using bolts and nuts along the belt line and front cap instead of self-tapping screws or by extending the "exclusive interlocking wall system" to the front sidewalls. This problem has been extensively documented on various social media platforms and RV forums. This is the Achilles' heel for all Fleetwood Class A gassers. It's lazy engineering. Should you take it to the REV Factory? You already know the answer to that question. They will just use more self-tappers and send you home. Fleetwood needs to add a few more extra steps in its assembly line. Making these areas more robust isn't rocket science. Stop using so many self-tapping screws. I hope that Fleetwood does the right thing for this family.

Then we had a water leak under the sink that was on the slideout. Had that fixed. Then while driving on the highway, we went over an uneven section of the highway causing it to rock back and forth and it continued to rock back and forth that wouldn't stop. Highway patrol came next to us and told us to get in the slow lane to stop it from rocking violently. Brought it to a service center to have them replace all the shocks with Bilstein Shocks and put airbags on all four corners. It was ok after that but didn't have the use of it for 6-7 weeks. Since I had bought it in Aug 2021 I have been finding bolts and washers on my driver's side floor. I never knew where they came from until the dash started moving. Mostly over rough roads. I also had the engine light come on a year ago. It turned out to be the number three cylinder. My search showed there is a known problem with the cylinders misfiring in this engine model. I was fortunate enough for Ford roadside assistance to tow it 100 miles to the nearest Ford shop that serves ices RVs for free. But as for the dash, I have no idea how that will get fixed. Especially now after seeing this couple's problem not being fixed. I understand them not wanting to take it to the manufacturer because they will just bandaid it.

Had the same issue with the slides on our first trip out . I have tracked it down to they used undersized wire to power the slides. there was no access to the slide controller. Had to make an access hole under the bed to get into the controllers. I hold my Breath every Time I hit the slide switches hoping that they will go out or retract. Contacted Fleetwood and got the same old answer. We can repair it at your cost at our facility in Decatur Six months from now. I will not be looking at anything built by the REV group in the future If it was my 2024 I would be asking for a BUY BACK

With the amount of water damage that has occurred (who knows how much hidden damage there is such as mold, deteriorated wood, electrical etc...), the amount of apparent structural issues, Fleetwood needs to step up and buy this unit back. We as RV'ers have to hold these manufactures accountable for the products they are producing. If the manufactures would actually perform a proper and detailed post inspection on these units as they are "completed" so many items would have the opportunity to be caught and repaired before a consumer spends their hard earned money and having to go thru this process. I previously did these type of post inspections on high end units when they where completed and I can tell you it was time well spent. It gave the company an opportunity to make these needed repairs and also drastically helped with different departments (it helped them have a better understanding on what was lacking and how to improve upon it) and make the needed changes. There is a plethora of ways these manufactures can improve this process. Most will not, unless we hold their feet to the fire.

Thank you for these videos. I have been on the fence about buying a RV and now I see it is not worth it. I agree with one commenter that all vehicles have some type of issue, but not to the extent that safety is in question. This individual had to do a lot of work himself to get this thing running. If you bought a brand new house then discovered that the walls were separating or the roof leaked or the electrical was shot; you would be beyond upset.

Never seen this channel before so I’m the first time viewer. This guy is giving all the signs he’s not being honest. I don’t know what to say or what happened but I will remind you expensive toys are just that expensive! He keeps saying he’s a mechanic, but he continues to use the Vehicle. Not only that he sees separation - shaking and so on lol risking his family in something like that? Like I said, there’s some red flags. 11:37

Wow! Shocked at Fleetwood! I had a Fleetwood class A in the late 90 early 2000s and the customer service was outstanding. They called me and recalled my RV to replace a “soft” flooring issue. While it was at the plant, they put in new carpet and flooring throughout the entire RV, replaced my step that was bent and put in a new cabinet next to the drivers station. I am in the market for another class A and was thinking only Fleetwood. Just looked at one yesterday. However this report will definitely make me slow down and do more research. Thanks for your reporting.

The only time we had trouble it was our fault and we got great help from customer service. I had put the jacks out to far and needed to learn how to reset. Its pretty easy once you know the steps. Hit. Stretch your fingers first. Got to push lots of buttons at the same time. 😂🤠

We went through the same thing with a brand new RV. We didn't get two miles down the road before we turned around and took it right back to them. We fought for 7 1/2 months to get it fixed. Months of work on it never fixed the problems. We missed out on our vacation because it was in the shop. Eventually the manufacturer agreed to give our money back but we had to sign papers saying we would not talk to anyone about the problem or they would sue us for slander.

@@kathykeene2092 It seems to be standard operating procedure in the RV trade. Unfortunately it's legal and binding. The RV industry is about where the American and Canadian car industry was in the 1970s. What's needed is a Lee Iacocca to come in, maybe the South Koreans or Japanese, and shake up the industry - give people quality products and they will come back.

If in fact they did cover up bad work on this rig that could be criminal negligence. Particularly when the dashboard shakes to the point that it shut off the generator (3:50). Depending on the systems connected to that generator that could have resulted in a serious accident or shut down of necessary power to maintain control of the vehicle. I am hopeful that you get relief from this manufacture, if they were smart they would refund your money ASAP. "cover up" is a very pointed term, and I am not critiquing anyone here but again, that borders on criminal negligence. Good luck.

I enjoy your video's they are very helpful. You are well spoken and knowledgeable. It seems to me that there is a need for more accountability in the RV industry regardless of the price a person spends. Some of these RV companies need to be ashamed of themselves. It's almost like they are being slumlords. It makes me think that they should be made to stay in the defective RV and then they would really come to an understanding of what their customers are going through. Hopefully the RV industry will get held accountable for inferior work. They truly need better regulations and accountable. Thanks again Liz for what you do to help.

I did a tremendous amount of research before I purchased my Class A two years ago. I ended up spending $125k on a 2003 Country Coach with stainless steel sides like a Prevost. Was a lot, but the best decision I’ve ever made. We haven’t had any problems with this 36’ two slide coach over the last two years and 38k miles of travel. Cherry cabinets, Corian countertops, leather interior, heated tile floors and all of top quality. I wouldn’t touch a new Class A or any RV for that matter.

My circle of folks have worked, made money, and invested wisely and entering the "freedom" time of life. Now, out to all my platforms with this I go. Thank you Liz!!

I love fleetwoods as you can see by my handle but I had to laugh at the dash bouncing fleetwoods have been doing that for over 20 years and they haven’t done much about it… we have had to go in and strengthen the front mounts from the frame to the box ourselves.. other than that they are built pretty well or at least they were in the sweet spot around 02-08

While rv sales are down, motorized sector are way down because stories like these are now being spread thanks to people like Liz and social media. Unfortunately this puts even more pressure on some manufacturers to put lipstick on defective units and get them out the door; something has to give here and force these makers to be accountable for doing this; buybacks are great but they almost always come with NDAs. A few succesful lawsuits with some punitive damages is what's needed to hit the makers in the only place they care about, the bottom line.

Those self tapping, light weight screws are just one level up from securing the parts with duct tape.
@drn13355Ай бұрын
That is the point. The bean counters run the numbers on all this. They have determined making the product as cheap as humanly possible will make them more money than making a high quality vehicle. Also make the "warranty" almost useless as it is also to do the least work possible until it expires. This stuff doesn't just happen. It is a business decision.
@truckguy6.7Ай бұрын
We did a factory tour in Oregon. The speed and carelessness witnessed by factory workers going crazy with self tappers was shocking. Over the years I have witnessed those screws go through, floors, waterlines, electrical wire, into modules, even one gas line and one right through the top of a roof. There is NO pride in craftsmanship. Usually made in the USA means well built, with the exception of 80% of the RV's. There are good ones though! You just have to so careful.

Exactly! Fleetwood should be counting their blessings that no one was hurt. And by-the-way, check out HH Catamaran latest video. “Gone with the Wynns”, youtubers who chronicle their sailing adventures, just bought a VERY EXPENSIVE, hybrid catamaran. Their cat had horrible problems. Watch their video from the HH CATAMARAN owners on how they are going to take care of the sailboat. THEY ARE UPSTANDING BUSINESS OWNERS. Come on Fleetwood, WHERE IS YOUR INTEGRITY? WHERE IS YOUR QUALITY ASSURANCE, OR IS IT NONEXISTENT?
