Trevor said he's gotten a sel-driving strike and didn't know what it was or how he'd gotten it. It made me curious as well, so here's the lowdown per ChatGPT: "The "strikes" system for Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) is a safety mechanism designed to enforce attentiveness while using the feature. When using FSD, the vehicle monitors driver engagement primarily through cabin cameras and steering wheel torque. If inattentiveness is detected-such as failing to keep your eyes on the road-a warning is issued. Repeated or severe warnings escalate to "strikes." If you accumulate five strikes, Tesla temporarily disables the FSD feature for your vehicle. This policy is intended to ensure that drivers remain vigilant and capable of taking over if needed, as Tesla's FSD is not fully autonomous and still requires supervision. Drivers who receive too many strikes can regain access after a cooldown period but may need to demonstrate responsible use going forward. This system has been implemented across Tesla's FSD-equipped vehicles, including the Cybertruck, as part of a broader push to balance advanced autonomous driving capabilities with safety requirements"

Destination charger - looks like you used a NACS to CCS1 DCFC adapter. Would it work with a NACS to J1772 adapter instead?
@joeyhazlettАй бұрын
Yes it would probably work. Even though they look similar, the NACS to CCS1 adapter doesn't pass through the AC wiring, so you can't use it like they were trying to use it. The same thing was occurring when they were trying to charge the Rivian on the side of the road using the Cybertruck. If they had a NACS to J1772 adapter (like 50 bucks online), it most likely would have brought the Rivian back to life after they jumped the 12V system.

I own 2 Rivians (R1S Quad Large Pack and R1T Performance Dual Motor Max Pack) and also an F-150 Lightning. The Rivian is nice, and overall better, but it needs locking diffs to be even better off road. The Cybertruck has front and rear locking diffs, and the Lightning has a rear locking diff. I think the dual motor version of the Rivian is better off-road, and I do actually take the R1T off-road. The Lightning has done some Moab trails as well. I'll be taking the R1T to Moab in April or May. The DC fast charge adapter shown in the video is only supposed to be used at superchargers, and there is a different adapter for AC (level 2) charging. However, why didn't you use the Rivian charger when plugging in to the Cybertruck on the side of the road? Also, the Rivian weighs more than the Cybertruck. Neither of the versions in the video are the quickest available versions, but 11 and 12 seconds are quick for a 7000lb vehicle. It would be nice to have someone that knows and understands EV trucks to actually use them correctly and run these unscientific tests to give them a fair shake. Still enjoy the channel though.

Appreciate the feedback, we’ll try to get some actual EV truck experts on to help in the future.
@CanonicGames2 ай бұрын
@@MisAdventureLab Yall should try a Gen 2 Rivian (either tri or quad motor). They offroad much better than the original gen 1 quad motors (which still work better than the CT for offroad). Locking diffs matter on paper but only if all other variables are equal. CT has poor angles. The new Rivian tri and quad are another level on top of the gen 1 quad. Also for EVs, the software matters A LOT. Rivian spends a lot more time on software development for offroading than Tesla does. So you could have an EV with locking diff but lower motor power and poorer software implementation be rocked by an EV with no locking diff but extremely powerful motors and great software. A lot of the Rivian team are serious off roading people who are developing and tuning the software.

I guess the tow-vehicle's MPG would be horrific while tow-charging an EV? I mean, as I understand it, the cybertruck charges at around 80kw so the tow-vehicle's engine is being forced to provide another 100hp all/most of the time it's dragging the cybertruck along.

Tesla used to want all their owners to take their vehicles to a Tesla service center for any needed work. They've since changed their minds about this, and the *complete* service manuals (the ones the actual Tesla Techs use to fix Tesla vehicles) are now openly available. Tesla also used to gate keep their parts; very few were available for the public to purchase. They've changed their tune on that as well. You can pretty much order any part you need. They've come a long way on "right to repair." So it is dead simple to work on Tesla vehicles now. The problem is there just isn't much in the way of after market mods for them... yet.
@LarsDennert2 ай бұрын
LOL you used a DC adapter to try to charge the Rivian on an AC station. Wrong pins. Also just park centered with the DC Supercharger station and the cable will reach both types of vehicles. Also the Rivian has a bunch of ways it will brick itself. Insane ways like a broken parking brake or it can't sense if the doors are closed. Neutral isn't neutral and there isn't an "off" mode so it always drains the batteries. Found all this out after buying it unfortunately. Don't leave civilization too far.

So, obviously this was done for the bit (which is also a legitimate test), but as a fan of your content and a car owner (for inter-city trips), but a cyclist most of the time: please try to do better by not blocking bike lanes, especially on a road where car drivers go at such high speeds as at 35:22. Forcing a cyclist to pull left into the car traffic lane there puts their life at risk.
@0x67722 ай бұрын
Responsible debate can certainly be had about whether that stretch of road even should have a bike line. I expect there's a small, and noisy, contingent of local cyclists who really enjoy that hill climb (and while that ain't me either: it looks like a very pretty stretch of hill to bike, if you're conditioned for it!). I think there's enough shoulder space that there could be a curb-separated biking/walking path yet further off the road, which would be better for everybody. But if the only place the bikes get to be is the break-down lane, and obstructing it forces them into 60 mph traffic, maybe don't go break down there on purpose, is what I'm trying to get across.
@mixmaxermixer80052 ай бұрын
Rewatch the video, yes at 35:22 they blocked the bike lane, they rolled backwards and 20 seconds later they were off the bike lane and on the shoulder.
@0x67722 ай бұрын
@@mixmaxermixer8005 I super don't want to get into a protracted debate about this absent the folks who actually shot the video (who could also speak to where, for example, their support vehicle(s) were parked), but at 37:24, both the vehicle and the people are still blocking the bike lane. My point is not that, in the case of an actual break-down, cars should magically vanish across the far side of the bike lane (in fact, I think this is a very poorly designed bike lane, and it should be completely separate from the car roadway here, which'd make all of this moot), but that, in future, when actively stress-testing a vehicle to get it to break down, it'd be better to do that where there's no question of putting road users inherently at greater risk of bodily harm in extra danger.
