That looks like a good solid unit. I have built two different setups to change my own MC tires and there are a lot of great ideas built into this. One technique comment: It looks like the vertical rod that is in the center is easily removed- when forcing the new tire on, I would make sure that rod is not installed. If you slip when forcing the tire on, or if the tire slips somehow, you could skewer your neck or torso. Great video.

Just bought the Cycle Hill Changer last week after looking at your review video and reading the review on your website. The changer worked great, just as your review illustrated. I also "stole" your idea of using a bungee strap to hold up the bead breaker. Thanks for your great, and honest reviews.

Thanks, much appreciated! These 3 minute videos take a lot of effort, as you can imagine! So I'm glad to know they're appreciated.

Yes, that's because he has it mounted to the trailer hitch on the pickup, so when you push down, everything else pushes up. It's really designed to be mounted into the floor or on a metal plate, that piece on the bottom would bolt on to a big plate. But he uses it with the optional trailer hitch mount instead.

Same answer, if you only need one set of tires per year, maybe best to make an appointment, drop off the wheels and have the shop do it and pay the 100 bucks or so. If the shop has to remove the wheels, you're talking double the cost at least for the labor. We'd rather do it ourselves to know it's done right, when we want it. I used to change tires by hand with a tire iron; it can be done and cheap. This changer makes it easy though with a lot less effort.

Out of curiosity, does that bead breaker blade pose any real danger to tubed tires? Since I have a dual sport now, it seems like tires are going to be getting replaced much more often than on my street bike. However, my DS tires are tubed, and I don't want to risk slicing into the tube with that blade.

Good question, we should have explained that better... The "bead" is the part of the tire that sits in the rim. It's the two inside parts of the tire on either side, they sit inside the rim and hold on to it when the tire is inflated. It's sometimes hard to "break" the bead, (i.e., break the seal between the tire and the rim) which is necessary to remove the tire. The hardest part of mounting or removing a tire is getting the 2 beads over and on to or off the rim. Hope this helps...

It's the same procedure, we use this on tubed tires also, you just have to be a little careful not to pinch the tube. No different than doing it by hand but a lot easier! Same procedure also for off-road tires, no problems.

Will this tool work for automotive passenger tires to to a certain rim size too?

I Have not seen any of these type devices demo on a tubed motorcycle tire yet?, more worried how the remount / de- mount bar is going to deal with tube in a knobby tire??

Not sure exactly what you're saying. We've been using it for several years on dozens of tires, it works fine.

I have this and it's very worth it. I'm doing trackdays and ride the street so I'm constantly changing tires. I mounted it to a 2x8 in an "X" shape.

Yeah, I can imagine. I'll be honest, I visit your web site usually once a month, but A LOT more often IF/WHEN I find a video review of something I like and want to read more about it. I forget about the web site, but subscription to your vids keeps me up to date.. so.. more vids - more web site visits IMHO.

If he's going through 4-5 sets of tires in 20k miles he needs to switch to a different tire.
@HammerHeadGarage8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Miller no he needs to inflate them properly.
@webbikeworld8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Miller Not sure why you think he's going through 4-5 sets of tires in 20k miles? In the video, it says he goes through several sets of tires per year. He commutes about 150 miles per day and takes trips cross-country every year, so he goes through a lot of tires.
@webbikeworld8 жыл бұрын
+webBikeWorld I see it now, a comment said 20k miles per year, don't know where that came from. He's got multi-hundred thousand mile awards from BMW.
@richardmiller96988 жыл бұрын
+webBikeWorld that's a direct quote from you. And I get about 10,000 to 13,000 from my Michelin PR4.
@webbikeworld8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Miller Yeah, I made a mistake once, that's when I thought I did. ;-) He had 3 bikes at the time of this review and I probably meant he put 20k per year on each. Plus, he was changing tires on the wBW project bikes also.

Looks good!! After you busted your knee cap and your elbow, now drive your unbalanced wheel to the garage and pay 20$ to get it balanced instead of the 25$ you would have paid for the full job..... Or maybe you have a trick for that to!! Seriously, looks good, just won't do the whole job
