The Cycleboard Rover ($2,599 www.cycleboard.com/products/r...) is wildly different than a typical electric scooter, and that's what makes it so much fun! Check out my full review at: electrek.co/?p=219270

They need to release a slim version for city commuting priced at $1,500

I’m 77 and recently bought the golf version of the Cycleboard. I won’t use it for golf until this summer, but I have been riding it around the neighborhood to get used to it. For an old guy who has never ridden a skateboard or a snowboard, the steering on this thing is definitely not intuitive. The lean-to-steer concept was foreign to me, but after 30 minutes or so in an empty parking lot I got pretty comfortable with it. I was a skier when I was younger, so I ride it ski style with both feet pointed straight ahead. Once I tried that, the learning curve was very short. The golf version has a max speed of about 14 MPH, and at my age that’s plenty fast enough, even on pavement. This was a huge outlay for me, but so far I’m happy with my purchase. I’m anxiously awaiting summertime so I can take it to the golf course, but in the meantime I’m having great fun just joyriding with it. It really is a fun ride, even for an old fart like me.

That's great Larry. I'm 45 and have thought about getting the golf version as well. Looks like a fun way to get around the course ⛳️

Hi Larry, i'm looking into this as well for golf - how has your experience been with it on the course ? getting it in and out of the car ? and lastly are you finding golf courses accepting of it or any of them not let you use it ? thanks in advance.

I live on a small 9-hole golf course, so I don’t have to load and unload the board every time I play. I keep it in the entryway of my apartment, so when I want to play I just push it out the door and make a 30-second run to the 1st tee. I’ve tried lifting it, and at age 77 it’s too heavy for me. A younger, stronger guy than me could probably lift it in and out of a vehicle, and with 2 people it would be a snap. But I live alone, so I haven’t taken it anywhere since I bought it. I started using it in May and just recently put it away for the winter. I played 4 to 5 days a week all season with it and got along great; no problems whatsoever. Don’t know what other courses would do, but mine doesn’t charge me anything to use it. I showed them the KZbin video before I bought it to make sure; I would advise you to do the same. I love playing with it; it makes the game a lot more fun and doesn’t tire me out at all. One thing I did notice is that it’s hard to control on side hills. It goes uphill and downhill fine, but if you’re going across a slope it’s a struggle to keep it from turning downhill. My course is pretty flat so it’s not a problem, but personally I wouldn’t want to use it on a really hilly golf course. After one season I’m very happy with my purchase. It will extend my golf life by a few years, which is why I bought it in the first place.

I think this would be very interesting in snow and icy conditions with studded tires, since there are currently no other stable options for winter riding

Excellent review as always, but I feel I must make a correction. That front suspension is not independent. In an independent front suspension, one wheel can move up and down without the other moving at all. On this machine, moving one front wheel up and down affects the other front wheel's camber angle. It also causes the other front wheel to move up and down slightly, but in the opposite direction.

So in all the Cycleboard reviews on KZbin, nobody showed the trolley mode which allow you to drag it on 2 wheels instead of carrying it…

I'd love the 50% version of this - smaller motor, lighter weight, lower range, lower price. The whole package seems overdesigned for 90% of trips.

The Rear Inner Tube of my Rover keep flatting ! I don't know what to do now after keep relacing too many of them. This is a major problem ! I think they should come up with some solutions to fix this annoying issue. Perhaps a solid tire should help.

New? Seen these for about 2 or 3 years now. I know a train operator in nyc that commutes on one. Of course he's a huge guy but he says he really likes the board. Seeing him riding it reminded me of a chariot lol for some reason.

*Someone is giving me a basically brand new one of these for $1200, less then half the retail price, I am hyped* Edit: I sold it to someone else for the same price, it was good but not for a commuting on the sidewalk since it’s so big.

Frack, I just bought a scooter but this is what I think I'd prefer, help. Only a week into owning a scooter but, model aside (Varla Eagle One), completely relaxing going past 15 mph seems highly unlikely on a two-wheeled ride of any kind.

Glad the range increased, even though it doesn’t do the advertised range. 40 miles is really 25-30 miles. I know someone who got a Cycleboard when it was crowd funded and it was their first version. 20 mile advertise range was actually a pitiful 5 miles. No that wasn’t even on the highest setting.

This thing has so much torque, hitting 25 mph in it would be insane. I set it to level 3 and it could have gone up to 5, but it will be some time before I risk it. I already ate shit on it once, hitting a bad bump in the sidewalk where the sidewalk had buckled up.

Now all they need to do is make a 15 kg urban rider and I'll be first in line to get it. My range is up to 30 k per charge. BUT it must be public transport and carry friendly as I do hybrid commuting.

I have one with several electric scooters. The fun and safe factor make the Cycleboard stand out. I have friends that are kind of nervous to even try a scooter but have no problems on the Cycleboard once they realize it's a very safe skateboard. Good luck, you'll enjoy 😉 it.

I’m a cycleboard rover owner. I disagree regarding the suspension. Was the board you tested a brand new model? The suspension requires a break-in period. I have close to 800 miles on mine and I can hit a speed bump going 20+ with no problem. Once you get familiar with this thing, it’s amazing. If I had one request, give me at-least a 35 top end. The board is so stable at speed;35 would be a breeze. These things are awesome, however they’re not what you’d consider to be portable. This thing is a tank. I definitely prefer over my other 2 wheel scooters. Off road if is unreal.

I'll never ride anything but my Rover. It took me less than 10 minutes in a parking lot to get the hang of using mine. It's like snowboarding on land. It handles better than any of the two-wheel portable coffins on the market or one you may have rented. If you're someone who cannot see outside the box of what you're accustomed to, this isn't your ride.
