Yes! It reminded me of when I lived in the UK 😃 such a similar feel, loved it! 💓

Hah, winter in Adelaide. Looks a lot like the UK national titles last weekend :-) A few years back I went for a winter ride and my gears seized up because they were covered in ice. I took my gravel-bike-that-isn’t for 60km around the lake today... but it was warm :-) And there was a man with an inflatable couch on the (stone covered) beach. My covid continues to improve, strangely I might have caught the new version last weekend, but after a couple of days of sleeping I was back on the bike. All those vaccines must work a bit. Look after yourself down there... must be getting close to the time for booking tickets and removalists for the end of October.

Hi Graham 😀 so glad to hear you're on the mend with covid too, and the new strain had minimal impact (phew!). I laughed when I read about the inflatable couch, brilliant idea! I'm so glad we don't get the ice here, that's another level of cold I don't miss 🥶 not long to go! exciting! 🥳🚴

What makes the gravel bike diff compared to road bike… I have a flat bar road bike and I stuck gravel tyres on it. If the gravel frame geometry much diff?? And your covids getting better ❤️🩹 your smashing it !!
@GrahamB292 жыл бұрын
Tyre clearance I think... that is my ”gravelbike that isn’t”, a montain bike with no suspension and mid-sized tyres biased tp the road but fine on gravel. So I anticipated the gravel trend by over 10 years :-)

Good question! thanks for answering Graham, I was just going to say 'I don't know!' 😁 I like the style of the gravel bike, it feels the same as a road bike, but able to ride more places... so it's a nice inbetween 🚴♂️

In fact ”official” gravel bikes seem to have slacker head angles... presumably so Americans can take their hands off the bars while riding 100’s of km in a straight line. I doubt it matters, unless you are planning to ride 100’s of km in a straight line :-D

@@CyclewithSerafina hmmmm I will have to try a drop bar gravel bike one day. My flat bar road bike with gravel tyres is almost as good off road as my mtb… on general trails and mud hard pack.
@CyclewithSerafina2 жыл бұрын
@@fisharefriends598 might actually be better balance on the flat bar, my last big fall was descending on gravel, on the gravel bike, a few people said that I probably wouldn't have come off if I was on a flat bar...

How cold is your "winter"? When I ride in winter I'm in warm tights, my puffy jacket, warm snow helmet and mitts.
@CyclewithSerafina2 жыл бұрын
It's not really cold, it's not a proper winter like I had growing up in NZ, it's more like a mild autumn... my family back in NZ laugh at me when I say it's cold, I've gone soft! 🤣 Sounds like you have a proper winter there 🥶🚴

It's probably between 4.5 and 17 degrees in Adelaide in winter, and possibly -2 to 12 higher up In NZ it's similarish in the north but gets from 3 to 13 in areas and -3 to 7 in others (Te waiponamu) Felt temps can probably get from -8 to -22 in higher areas In the UK in the south it gets from about 2 to 11, but from -4 to 6 further inland. This is from memory and is probably not accurate!

@@betula2137 Sounds about right for NZ, I lived a year in Scotland (Edinburgh) and winter was pretty cold there, but I've never experienced anything lower than -12 in all my years! I can't begin to imagine what -22 would be like 😮cycling would definitely be out of the question!! 🥶
@betula21372 жыл бұрын
@@CyclewithSerafina I don't know, I think I'd be crazy enough to cycle out in -22 with about a million layers on every piece of exposed skin (with hand warmers, and accompanied by a visit to Canada), and extremely safe and comfortable Dutch infrastructure, except with the beautiful landscape of Australia (our record is -23 at Charlotte's Pass, so, somewhere round there!) I've heard that even through intense cold, rain, and wind, the Dutch will be cycling, and that it would signal the end of the world for them not to be! Do you know the blog 'Canberra. Bike'? That's why I mentioned the Dutch; I also think we could learn a bit more from their agriculture (with 3x our production as 2nd in the world, but 1/2 the water- & pesticide-use)
@CyclewithSerafina2 жыл бұрын
@Betula lol! yes 😁 with enough layers of clothing, and a nice hot shower at the end, anything is possible!! I haven't heard of Canberra bike, I'll check it out. It does feel like the end of the world when you can't ride, that was probably the hardest thing with getting covid, before that I would't go two days in a row without riding, no matter what whether!

What do Australians consider winter cold? You look like your dressed for a U.K. spring, or even a U.K. summer morning I get the ice tyres out when it gets cold cold…. But I don’t brave cycling on tarmac in winter, def not on a road bike
@CyclewithSerafina2 жыл бұрын
Winter here is more like a mild autumn in NZ, similar to UK. I've gone soft since living here! 🤣

@@CyclewithSerafina mild autumn…. That’s t shirt weather. 😂 I don’t get the winter kit out till it get to 5/6 c.. and even then it’s even a bit to warm
