Cycling the Rend Lake Bike Trail

Rend Lake Bike Trail is over 20 miles of mostly paved and concrete bike path. This is a great road biking or hybrid/mountain biking path with some hills, access to the beach and more.

We used to bike the section from Rend Lake College, West of the gun range to the resort, then along the East side of the access road past the golf course and then crossing the road and past the maintenence shed to the camping area and beyond. Can't remember the exact order, it's been awhile. The RLC to the Resort was chat like Tunnel hill, then concrete the rest of the way. They never got that lower part attached to where you parked and continued clock wise around the lake. That abandoned campground is off that section.

There is a famous bridge in Paris where they do the locks. It’s like a commitment between two people.

The locks is way for couples to show their love for each other. Modern way instead of carving initials into a heart on trees. My hometown has a bunch at riverfront and local paper explained why.

From the bike trail up towards the dam was where I took that "Door in the Sky" photo that I posted in the Odd, strange and weird things found in the forest page, even though it wasn't in the forest.

i park at the first parking lot before you cross the dam , since it’s only about 10 minutes from my house ...And take the trail along the dam road ..behind the spillway , follow that to where you parked ...then follow the bike trail into south marcum campground ,,make a loop through there and follow the same route back to the parking lot ...strava app shows about 11.36 miles with around a 233 elevation change .....then if you take the bike path north from the west side parking lot where i park and ride all of the way north , the one you road on ..my strava shows around 11.50 miles , there and back , with a elevation change of 533 feet .....if you ride the dirt mtb trails over by the water treatment plant and the old campground....be sure to soak your legs down with bug spray ...chiggers ate me up ....could of been caused from me playing superman over my handlebars too and landing n the weeds....😂😂.....also when your riding along the dam road on the trail and you see that gravel path/road that cuts back south about half down the trail ,,,that cuts back to the back of the containment ponds and you follow that path/ road ,,,it ties back in to the main bike path ...it’s really nice when it gets dark ..ive got a 1300 lumen lezyne light i run on mine ..almost got blindsided by a deer about 2 weeks ago . i swear my front tire touched her rump when she ran out of the woods ....

I just can’t ride, I mean, if it’s mostly downhill maybe…..then I send my husband back to get the truck. Lol.
