Thank you so much! That means a lot and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! Ah they were good times. Cannot wait to do some more mini tours once we're allowed to. You have any plans? Highly recommend any part of our route to Turkey! :)

I love your account of this trip...I did it in the reverse direction some 6 years ago from Oberalp to Hook Von Holland..The weather was similarly hot and dry...You did an excellent job of filming and commentary..Thank you for the memories

I'm pretty sure the 'structures' along the side of the corn fields that Matt asks about are what we in Canada would call 'corn cribs'. The corn is harvested 'on-the-cob' and put in the cribs. They are long and thin to ensure the corn continues to dry out (if it is not yet dry). Since the corn grains are not threshed off the cob, they don't fall through the wire crib sides. Don't see them much anymore here, but I remember them growing up as a kid in Ontario.

Ah I see!!! Yeh we didtn see them much outside of France actually. Maybe they took em over to canada in the beginning, et voila! Thanks for watching. Making a film properly now with an actual editing program. Watch this space! :)))

Hi Matt. I was cycling around theses ways at the same time as you (bloody hot!) on my way back from a 3 month trip. I thought I had touring out of my system for a while but your vids are starting to reignite that old twisted desire for more pain 😁 Thanks for posting them, they have good vibes ✌️

Ah touring life will never leave the system we've found... getting a few mini rides in is helping and we hope to have a family in the next few years and tour with kids in a trailer! Touring life will go on! :) Thanks so much for watching. Where did you go on your tour few years back then?

@@MatHall I went from the UK to Italy via Switzerland and then a loop of some Eastern European countries before blasting up the Euro Velo on the Rhine to get back. Memories stay in your mind like no other.. I met families on the road with trailer, dogs and kids.. They were loving it 😊 All the best, keep spinning and posting 👍

@@GavinHarte thanks for watching! The few days south down to Basel were very straight and not very eventful but weirdly very enjoyable still. Blissful! Then basel was a real treat. Certainly one of the nicest cities we ride thru. Convenient camp site near the bridge where France meets germany and Switzerland! Great campsite as you enter france called camping plage du staedly. Then Strasbourg was a delight too. Ah we loved that section!

Hello To you both. Nicely done video. I have a question for you if you can reply. Would you do the ride the you did it or would you suggest I start at Oberalppass at the other end? I am 75 and want to do this ride before I kick the bucket. Keep on riding .

Hi Leonidas, thanks for watching and your comment. And happy new year! I would change anything about our Rhine route really. I think it was great going from the flatlands in the Netherlands heading 'up river' to Switzerland. We didn't get as far as the official source because we had a 5 day break with family in Switzerland but we did go to Chur, which is where the river starts to be known as the River Rhine. That was good enough for us! If you want a real mountain challenge then perhaps yes, begin or finish there but we really recommend the Netherlands to Switzerland route option. There's a great camp site in Chur too and plenty of hotels if needed and you can take the train there if you choose to start here. I hope that helps. Do feel free to ask more questions!! Its a beautiful ride and we certainly saw and met plenty of people cycling in 60s and 70s, its not a problem. Its a relaxed way of life :)

@@canadianlady777 yes!! It's such a stunning ride. We just did source in Germany to edge of Romania then too iron curtain trail south but along German Swiss border was so beautiful and Austria was a delight. Then heading into Eastern Europe, and hotels were cheaper than campsites in Western! Amazing food and people and fantastic cities in bratislava Budapest and Belgrade.. and many more. I hope you can one day soon. We hope to do the Western part of the ev6 to French coast sometime. 😀
