I’d prefer the chest cam view, because it feels as if I myself am riding the bike (virtually). Also, this view reminds me of the virtual spin cycling classes at the gym. 😅

Thanks for the input, I'll definitely keep using this view in some future videos!

Hi Johnny, I prefer the chest mounted camera - the view makes it a real riding experience. Also a more stable view. The advantage of the helmet is when you stop at an intersection you look around and we see a broader picture. All good - great to see that Toronto is not completely flat and there are some small hills! Have a great day.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Mark. I agree and I'm going to regularly use the chest cam mount and throw in some helmet cam rides once in a while (probably on non-narrated ones). Toronto certainly has some hills, and it flows downwards towards the lake (which is often why I like to make north to south based rides). Cheers!

Nice ride! Solid work bud. Doesn’t matter which cam you used. It seems to be both effective in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree both work well and have their pros and cons. Cheers
@cycleyyz4 жыл бұрын
Pros and cons to both camera setups. I prefer chest mount, but helmet mount captures what you see. I think for your "tour" style videos, the stability of the chest mount is better. Oddly, for my commuting videos the helmet view would probably be better! Great video as usual.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
I agree with your pros and cons. The helmet cam sometimes feels a bit too much like a camera floating through air since it doesn't capture any part of the bike or rider in the shot to act as a an anchor of sorts, but it does capture a whole lot and offers a really unique perspective (especially the wide angle of the GoPro). I'm working on a new vantage point that will have the camera mounted to the frame of the bike from several inches behind the handle bars. It'll keep the handle bars perfectly centered and prevent them from appearing to bounce back and forth as well as let me lower the horizon line just a bit. I hope to use that in one of my next rides, and if you don't see it just assume I failed and gave up on the idea (it's great in theory but I'm going to put it to the test today) lol. I've been watching your videos regularly and love how entertaining they are. The amount of effort you put into a 3 minute video must be more than I put into one of my hour long rides. Keep up the great work!

Great ride Johnny. I grew up in the Yonge and Eglinton area,on Craighurst Ave. Now living in Scarbaria or Scarborough. Good scenes as you where going down Mt.Pleasant ave. To tell you the truth, Johnny, I miss the narration. Like the view from your mid level. I also liked your comments on the steep hills.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ted, much appreciated! Yonge & Eglinton must seem like a different place already from when you grew up here. As for the narration, I'll be sure to do some more. Some people do prefer the ambient sounds without me talking but since it's much easier to do a narrated bike ride vs. walking video there will be for sure a lot of narrated bike rides this summer!
@iam93384 жыл бұрын
As always a brilliant video but of the two views with each having its own merits I much prefer the Head-cam as the eye-level is not far from your own and makes for a better viewing experience and I say this as a Wheelchair user so I much prefer the raised eye-level,keep up the excellent content and thank you.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the excellent feedback. I'm finding both have their merits as you said and am leaning towards the chest cam for narrated rides and the helmet cam for the silent (aka ambient ones). That also gives me an excuse to use both of my cameras since they're each better suited to particular views. Thanks again!

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback! I'm going to tweak this view and dial it in a bit better (it's still not quite centered or symetrical) but that's a challenge since the camera lens is off to the side.

Hello my friend, Helmet cam is so much better. Love your relexing videos. I'm from Ukraine and used to live in Royal York area long time ego, would be great to see cycling in this area and of course Bloor and Islington junction please. Thanks in advance.

Cycling in Toronto is just perfect ! The city is as plain/smooth as a paper sheet 😎 ... I prefer the normal view (not the helmet one). It feels I'm on the bike myself ! 🚴♀️😁

I like both but I prefer the helmet cam. That way we are not constantly looking at your hands and handle bars but another great video
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bruce. I think I like both equally. The issue with the helmet cam is that without capturing any part of the bike or rider there's a bit of a strange floating through air feeling that seems unnatural (plus the sudden - but necessary head turns can be a bit jarring). But the view the helmet cam captures is definitely superior in terms of being able to see more of the city so there's always going to be trade-offs. Ideally for the new view I'd keep the handle bars perfectly centered and at the very bottom of the screen and not have my arms in the shot at all which is something I'm working on with a new mount. Cheers

My husband and I like the chest cam, it's a lot clearer, we feel like we're there riding the bike too. We live here in Toronto, we love seeing the city from your perspective. This one is particularly special since this is where my husband grew up, where his mum grew up and got married and raised her family. You rode past a lot of family history here. By the way, that's quite a hill at the Lawrence intersection. We're enjoying your videos, your narration is amazing, you're very knowledgeable, and we'll keep watching for sure. Stay safe and be careful on your rides @johnnystrides :-)

Love the chest cam! Gives a far more immersive "biking" feel. I get to see the potholes shake the bike and see you move the handlebars. It's fun. I recommend trying out this route if you haven't: ridewithgps.com/trips/51878584 It's very scenic starting from Oriole park (you go through Beltline, the cemetery, then the gorgeous Moore park ravine). I exited to get on Glen road but alternatively you can exit at the Brickworks and take Rosedale valley road north to Park road -> Bloor for a more lush ride. Cheers!

Thanks, much appreciated! I'll see if I can record a ride following a similar route, thanks for sharing!

Both views are good for different purposes. For a more personalized experience, I’d say the chest cam. However, if your goal is to purely just document the city and nothing else, I would say the helmet cam. Basically, I feel that if you are going to do a bike ride with no narration, you should use the helmet cam. If you are going to narrate, I think it makes more sense to use the chest cam so that we can see you a little bit. I hope that makes sense.... As for personal opinion, I hope you continue to do a mix between the two as I like both views.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
Fantastic feedback and I was thinking along those lines as well. It also helps that the GoPro is better suited to the helmet cam (it's got the wider angle to take in more) and the Osmo Action is better suited to the chest cam view (the GoPro shows too much of my arms) so I have an excuse to keep using both cameras. I will probably follow this for the time being. Thanks again!

Chest Cam def!!!.... 4:13 made me cringe hard
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! As for 4:13... I would have stayed to the left but I looked over my shoulder and saw that the bus was not slowing down so it was safer to hop into the coned area on the right. The camera makes it look like a tighter squeeze than it was but the alternative was to play chicken with a public bus.
