Definitely the van - probably wasn’t expecting the cyclist to be going around the whole roundabout in the outside lane even though the Highway Code specifically tells motorists they should be, and allows cyclists to do so. Only way he got hit in the rear three quarter like that by the cyclist if he pulled out on him.

Cyclist admitted the van had stopped so he was stationary. Sounds like he tried to filter past and hit it, the van driver said he tried to overtake him? It was nice the van driver checking over the older cyclist before checking for damage on his own vehicle. No argument or anger from either road user this is how all road users should treat each other.

Just a reminder for drivers and cyclists. ... You cannot hit anything if you are STATIONARY. So please try and stop before you hit something, then you can't be blamed for it. The easiest way to do that is DRIVE / CYCLE SLOWER AND LEAVE EACH OTHER MORE ROOM.

It is clearly the van driver's fault. The collision occurred on the right side of the van meaning the bike collided on the priority side. There should be a simple rule always giving cyclists priority on roundabouts. Once you see a cyclist coming you must stop and stay behind the stop line until the cyclist passes, and there should be no overtaking on either side of the cyclists even if it looks safe. . It is down to this stupid policy of putting bike lane markings on the outer part of the roundabouts which meant the van driver thought the bike was taking the nearest exit when the cyclist was still going round and expected the cyclists to easily pass behind him even if he stopped.

I'm sure the cyclist has vastly more experience than the van driver. The van driver was making a bullshit excuse about the cyclist trying to overtake him. The van driver's postion tells us that he jumped or pushed out onto the roundabout without giving way to the cyclist. Or the van driver undertook the cyclist as both went onto the roundabout. The cyclist was correctly positioned for going where he wanted to go.

The van drivers position show that the cyclist hit him and the cyclist said the vans had stopped. So the person moving was the cyclist and so cyclist at fault

Interesting analysis. As others have said, the collision wasn't caught on camera and so we don't *know* but, using your logic - a driver can pull out into the path of a cyclist and, provided that they managed to stop prior to the impact, it's the cyclist's fault? As to your question about the cycle path/crossing - typical diversion strategy. There is absolutely no requirement in law for a cyclist to use a bike path. TBH, a lot of the time, bike paths increase risk to the cyclist.
