It's good that the jacket doesn't retain heat as this is a jacket for people being active, hiking,walking, skiing, mountain rescue etc. Also the recco tracker is a great extra and I agree with you on the cuffs I think elasticated cuffs would of been better.

The wind and water proofness matters of course, however as a hard shell I will always have a mid layer and a base layer. I have one of these and its the worst jacket ive ever bought. RR is a massive marketing ploy like Red Bull. It isnt waterproof and it nearly killed me when I went up Scafell in winter. It only has a DWR coating and as can be seen in your video it wets out very quickly. For the price of that jacket you could buy the Keela Munro which is well tested by mountain rescue and specialist police and army teams.

You also have a pocket for a ski pass on the left arm down at the wrist. It also have 20000mm on rain. Seems like this video have a lot of wrong info. As for heat retention it has worked great for me. I have gone skiing with mine a lot and bin out in in temps down to -20 with no issue using a mid layer jacket. As for a helmet under the hood, that is not possible. I have tried it and it was way to tight. Also I do agree about mesh in the vents.
@RathwulvenBushcraft3 жыл бұрын
I'd just like to invite you to take a look at the website of the very manufacturers themselves. As shown there, you get a 15.000mm water column. The 20.000 refers to the breathability in g/m²/24h, not the water resistance, alas the manufacturer. I'd find it rather bizarre if the manufacturers themselves would not know the specifications of their own product. I'd find it even more bizarre to take a screenshot of their very own homepage and then editing the screenshot to display the 15.000mm instead of the presumed 20.000mm. How absurd would that be? What could I possible get out of that? For your opinion on the performance in -20°C: You just mentioned the necessity of a mid layer jacket yourself. I am clearly stating that this jacket alone (!) does not perform as a winter jacket. Nothing else. That said, how much can you say about the heat retention of this jacket if your body heat is actually retained by another product? That is: The very mid-layer jacket you wear underneath. With all due respect, but basically confirming my point (which is: this jacket is not specifically designed for skiing but rather for outdoor activities in general) and at the same time smashing down some statement like "a lot of wrong info in this video" not only comes along way too strong, it does not even make sense in this particular case. To end on a positive note: If the jacket does work for you in combination with other gear - awesome! I am happy if that combo works for you and if you are happy with it too, great. Or not? Thanks for the view and the comment, have a good one! Ralf

Thanks for the comment and question. The honest answer: No, not really. As mentioned I am testing a product based on the way it is advertised - the manufacturer considers the jacket to be a winter jacket and therefore I personally expect it to perform as that without adding another fleece or so for insulation. Dude instead of faulting the jacket for not keeping you warm, i would suggest wearing merino wool or wool layers instead of cotton. That would solve your problem right away. Mesh inside the armpit zips, sux big time, but yeah each to their own
@RathwulvenBushcraft2 жыл бұрын
As pointed out in the video, this is a review of the jacket and its very own features as such. If a product is advertised as a „winter jacket“, it should perform as such and - as this is a review - will be judged on this very performance. It makes no sense at all to add a mid layer compensating for the jacket during a review as it falsifies the outcome. Which in return is then absolutely useless for the viewer. Imagine this: You look for a review of a small car made by Kia - how much sense would it make if the respective video maker first replaces the engine by a V8 racing engine just so he can tell you that the Kia is a race car? Exactly, none at all. Doesn‘t mean that merino products themselves are great, as you can see in other videos of mine, I am very fond of my merino gear.

@RathwulvenBushcraft3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Let my try to answer your questions: This particular jacket is designed for sports and sport related activities - which is not really comparable to bushcraft. If I may be so free and use the very original definition of bushcraft, we'd then talk about working with natural materials to create shelters, tools and such. The sturdiness of workwear is different to sporty gear, if that makes sense. But I can recommend this jacket as an allrounder if you are looking for a simply top layer.

Well I got to ask: Is that meant for civilians or as a donation for Ukranian defense forces? Because if it is for the latter, I'd say forget about this jacket - it is no military grade type of gear. I am not sure if removing the RECCO will do any good, cause it is somewhat embedded in the outer layer and inner layer. I assume the latter is not waterproof.

Wearing a cotton base layer is why your getting cold. Probably the worst base material you could of chosen. The recco feature could be purchased separately and fixed to clothing you already have. It's not expensive.
@RathwulvenBushcraft2 жыл бұрын
Hi there - unfortunately I have to reply to you in the same way I had to reply to similar comments: Your remark is as illogical as it is irrelevant. Let me explain why, yet again: I am testing a jacket to see if it does fulfill the promises made by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer offers this jacket as a "winter jacket", the jacket alone must perform as such - regardless of whether I am wearing cotton, merino or no base layer at all. That is why the base layer as such is irrelevant - a good jacket performs as a good jacket, or it doesn't. But let's be nice yet again and address your remark on base layers for the sake of argument: Everybody knows that merino, for example, performs better than cotton in terms of dispersing moisture and what not - but why would any reasonable person want to falsify the outcome of a product test by adding yet another product which does the actual work? That is so illogical. If you still don't catch my drift: Let's say Nissan promotes the Micra as a "high power racing car". Now you get a Micra, shoot a review and conclude that its top speed is only 170km/h and hence cannot be considered a racing car. Should I comment that you don't know what you are talking about because you decided to use the original engine rather than replacing it with the high-power engine of a Ferrari 812? How much sense would it make to add a remark that your Nissan could have easily gone 340km/h with the Ferrari engine? Exactly, absolutely no sense at all as we would not be reviewing the Nissan anymore, but rather the Ferrari. Thanks for your comment & have a great day!
@Crazyoldman842 жыл бұрын
@@RathwulvenBushcraft if I came across rude it wasn't my intention. Maybe you should of done the review with only the jacket no base layer by your logic. If you buy a ski jacket would you not wear a proper base layer with it? My reason for mentioning the cotton is it would make you cold under any jacket if it's wet from sweat.

This jacket is not good at all against the rain. It’s absolutely not waterproof (it doesn’t claim either that it’s waterproof) it’s water repellent and not so good at it either. Even after one hour in moderate rain it gets really wet from inside. Basically you get what you pay for. Should show jacket from inside how “dry” it is. Video is misleading. People should check other videos where jackets from RR are tested in rain and how wet they get from inside.
