one of the big things that could hold back on mod packs making a move over is exactly how this all began. since FTB has several mods that are staples in the modpack brewing, namely FTB quests which provides the quest book as a form of guidance in any pack. Personally disagree, as someone who has authored projects on spigot and used curseforge for a very long time, the comments section is often used incorrectly, and it's really frustrating. By both authors and users. Users will often post stacktraces that actually have nothing to do with the project itself, and tell the author their project is broken. Other times, authors will respond to genuine comments with extremely rudeness. It's a major layer of moderation that would be required by the Modrinth team if it were to actually be used well. I do think it'd be nice for there to be a way to report issues through Modrinth to the resource owner, similar to how they recently made it possible to send messages directly to the Modrinth team on your own resource, but I don't think a public comment section is a good idea

As someone who learned about modrinth just a few months ago, from my angle modrinth has started getting big from both the team behind sodium and iris almost completely leaving curseforge, and, I'm not too sure but I think I remember that during the exploit that happened before bleeding pipe, modrinth quickly shut down the malwear and was able to be back up not too long after while it took curseforge and other launchers far longer, not completely sure on that though

Nah it isn't better on almost everyway. What I do believe Modrinth is better in is searching and discovering new, less popular mods. However, Modrinth lacks a lot of stuff, like comments and a relations page, as well as having way less variety compared to Curseforge, especially considering most mods there are Fabric mods. As for the launcher, it is in Alpha now (I believe) and is fine as a Modrinth only launcher, but fails to replace Prism launcher or MultiMC.

Not a big mods person as I mainly just work on projects, but when fabric came out I thought that was pretty huge. Being able to run shaders with high FPS while also having an insane view distance compared to what was capable prior felt like a game changer for immersive adventure maps. I'm not sure if all of the content mods benefit the same way, but since I like the fabric, iris, sodium, starlight combo it just seemed like the way to go. Coupled with us scripters getting new commands every update, the upcoming $ identifier and the ease of downloading these mods thru the rinth, minecraft has been evolving for sure.

@@Cygnus_MC it's definitely and am i actually the only one or a tiny minority that is *highly* suspicious over modrinth? Something seems severely fishy about it. From both its founding and overall management. As far as I can see the developers/hired personnel for modrinth are the ones doing the heavy lifting and keeping this so extremely well made. I don't know man. This is either some intuition thing or a total miscalculation on my part. I feel strongly like as if this is one the few things that could just disappear very randomly or be bought by a another company. The thing with curseforge is that it is its own entity essentially. It's like cement, it just stays there and that's it. Similarly to the WW2 German cement flak tower, it's just not viable for it to cease to exists, it has a odd and conflicted past but when the sun someday may go haywire, it'll stand and even against a black hole.

i've used modrinth twice as a dev so far (and like half a time as a user), and i kinda hate it so far. dumbass custom format for modpacks, so i had to copy my modpacks' dev instance on CF to it and re-export the thing. after that, you gotta deal with the automated bureaucracy that bitches about licenses. I can't even upload 95% of my modpacks due to it, and the one i do have there is missing several mods because of the license bitching. as a user, i hate the launcher's UI. The website's is fine, but the launcher feels really cramped and has some weirdness (e.g. having to go to the settings to categorize things instead of being able to click & drag in the library view) that CF simply doesn't have (plus, i can't make zip files to upload my packs, so i'd have to maintain two instances and that's a massive pain in the ass). never heard about Overwolf until they bought CF, but i did reinstall the launcher with the standalone version to remove their useless-ass bloatware.

Yes, i know that the ore in the mine is not 'nothing', but the point is that it doesnt have a value until its extracted. Also, anyone can see that data as long as they pay for it. I literally googled 'buy data' and the third hit is a databroker site where you can buy data like this thats collected by all these ad services. Google, microsoft, you name it. The data is spread between all these sites and companies that deal in data. Now consider that once something is on the internet, you cant remove it from there. That raises a lot of issues because these sites are tracking everyone, the data ends up on the internet, and its going to stay on the internet. You use chrome (probably), google knows which sites you visit. You googled some weird prn? They know, and if one company knows, so will the rest. That may be fine for today when its only money on the line, but what happens in 10-20 years when a western country elects laws that encroach on freedom and human rights? The data is available for everyone to buy, and the evil people will have access to it, and they'll know exactly whats up with everyone. Maybe that regimes wants to eradicate furries, so they bought a bunch of data, and 'dispose of' everyone who has googled furry related things more than a couple times. Or a real scenario. In the US Roe v Wade was overturned. In some states abortions are illegal now. Guess which company knows who googled 'abortion in other US states'. *All of them.* The only reason they arent being prosecuted en-masse is because the old fossils running the country dont have a clue how anything works on the internet. Privacy is not a joke. If you think you have nothing to hide, you will once the government changes and suddenly your past actions that every company knows about; are considered illegal. Data is forever, the best time to stop this is yesterday. The second best time is right now. I could go on for days with so much more to say. *This is a big deal*

Out of curiosity why do people hate overwolf? Id rather get curseforge and porofessor without having to download overwolf, but i dont really see why that would cause hate

I wish they added a feature to sign in with microsoft account of minecraft instead of buying the game

Overwolf buying CF was actually the best thing that could have happend to Curseforge. Why? They are actually addressing issues redoing backend and all that stuff. Twitch was known to do the WORST JOB EVER and i don't envy Overwolf for having to deal with that. And even if some changes are not liked, 90% of the changes are positive in their nature. Also they increased Payouts by up to a factor of 10 to every mod receiving revenue upon takeover. So instead of making for example 40 cents a day for thousands of downloads a day people now receive 4 dollar a day for that. (Example numbers). That is something Modrinth at the moment can not compete with really. Also until like very recently Modrinth wasn't even an option for me mainly because: Their TOS basically gave them rights to make clones of mods and publish them as they wish. Basically the lithium indecent on CF but done my modrinth itself. Luckily this week this was fixed, they addressed that in the TOS and now modrinth is actually usable in terms of licensing. I personally like both UX from CF/Modrinth, though CF is still better, but Modrinth with their most recent patch has made a long way to improve things. The modders side is still bad... Almost unbearably especially if you want statistics. But the points where its important got a ton of things. I personally think once CF finishes their new UI Modrinth gets fire under their asses. While if Modrinth finishes their UI, improves the ad situation and a few other things, CF will have a ton of fire under their asses. In general i think competition is great, Modrinth does a great job providing competition, though i still prefer curseforge as a moddev/user by a long shot.

Just converted to Modrinth! to be honest, I really miss curseforge, but curseforge is a bit sketch and also I always love the idea of saying fuck you to the big corporate giants. Modrinth definitely has a better design tho lets be honest

Curse forge is practically already obsolete. It's simply so clunky, people only use it for nostalgia

Does forge shows if a mod is client or server side ? Or a a mod's dependencies ?
@Respear Жыл бұрын
We use it for fun mods that don't exist on modrinth.
@ethanbuttazzi2602 Жыл бұрын
@@Mabra51 they do link dependencies, as for client or server side, you generally alredy know that answer from reading the description.

I don't really want the curseforge's monopoly to end. I choosed it because it's the easiest way to mod the game without going into files. I tried AT launcher, but... It's ui is about shit. Imagine having forge vs fabric competition, but on launchers
