Paper absolutely sucks for the technical side of the game, the optimizations that it applies may be good for a lot of players crammed in a single server, but it compromises by straight up stripping down the features of Minecraft. Almost every conventionally designed contraption, even ones on the relatively simple side, will at best be way less efficient and at worst completely self-destruct.

The difference between a mod and a plugin is that the mod will make some changes for the client side, maybe UI, new entities, blocks, items, etc. While plugins are specifically for server side. While you could drop in a resource pack and/or a data pack to give the impression of new content, plugins just reuse the same existing items to achieve the same result. These are considered workarounds and require a bit more creativity.
@eksotropia18 сағат бұрын
problem with sodium is that it only improves performance on windows, not macos and there optifine is doing okay

Just going to drop this comment now, haven't finished the video yet so apologies if it comes up at all. For anyone looking to make any game, not just Minecraft, play in a borderless fullscreen mode there's a great application I use for the Bedrock edition of the game called Borderless Gaming. It takes a small amount of effort to set up, but it works very well and you can use it if you were affected by this mod containing malware.

Quick question- As you probably know, I use NeoForge 1.20.1, the version thats basically just plain forge under a new name (hence the forge mod compatibility). I installed Connecter + Forgified Fabric API, which works fine on its own, but when I put in a few of the supported mods, like BetterEnd, it kept crashing. I got dynamic surroundings refabricated to work but it was pretty sensitive. I wonder if maybe im on the wrong version, or because I normally use 200+ mods lmfao- I absolutely adore betterend but unfortunately the forge port is stuck on 1.16.5, and I use a lot of 1.20.1+ mods (alexs caves for example), and that when I used forge on that version (Neo is only for 1.20.x) it plays at 20 fps (while neo + embeddium + oculus goes 60+) so im tryna figure out what to do now haha. I adore BetterEnd because most end+ forge mods are pretty mild and boring while BetterEnd is absolutely stunning to explore. I also miss dynamic surroundings due to features like the taiga biome northern lights, howling wolves and owls, all that cool stuff. The only option I have for Neo/Lex forge 1.20.1 is Ambient Sounds 6, which requires CreativeCore, and basically spits out an Error Code 1. Plus, the sounds are a bit more annoying and less immersive. Im hoping either the BetterEnd forge port and dynamic surroundings gets updated for 1.20.1, or maybe as time goes on, this project gets more compatibility updates. For now, I’ll probably clear out some mods I dont need when I get home lol

Paper is great for public minigame or smp servers, but for private, whitelisted servers, especially technical servers, it’s hot garbage, and even now, most plugins gave a similar version as a fabric mod

Bottom line... Modrinth was quick to spot this and be transparent about it, much more so than curseforge faced a similar situation. Only ~370 downloads before it was disclosed. Yet the clickbait thumbnail is what people see. They dont watch the video or listen to anything. Modrinth handled this in the best way possible, but farming views is more important than conveying that.

I'm not tech-savvy, but stick to popular mods if you don't want to get infected. Hackers won't create big mods to steal personal info, and the maintainer of the big mods would probably read every line of code submitted because their reputation and passion are on the line.

I'm really surprised they don't have a built in sandbox system on their backend for checks like this. I'm even more surprised that people STILL don't scan the shit they download before installing or running. This was preventable on so many levels, both on Modrinths end as well as the end user's.
@Ether_VoidКүн бұрын
It's actually quite difficult to do sandbox testing on software. It just spits out a bunch of things the software is doing, and whether that's malicious behavior or not is quite tricky to determine especially in an automated toolchain. This becomes even harder when malware includes detections for VMs or lays dormant until a certain date. On the users end it's no different it's actually quite common for malware scanners to not detect a custom malware strain, they are nowhere near as foolproof as many people think. Typically Windows Defender should scream when it detects there is malware, however unless the malware is already known most scanners are just as defenseless.

Fun fact: the mod named "Xenon" which is a fork of embeddium already has a borderless mode built into it. I know it's only for forge tho but still worth mentioning if anyone wants to just avoid getting borderless mods in the first place.
