I bought a new set of rocker arms for a 2010 3.5 v6 dodge with lifters already in them. Do these pump up oil by themselves or do I need to do something to them? I noticed the new ones are springy where the old ones are solid.
@bakerRebuilds10 ай бұрын
The parts once installed should be fine as is, I don't think anything else is needed with rocker arms or lifters however the V6 has overhead cams. The v8 has lifters and pushrods. Hope you haven't purchased a wrong part.
@user-qx1wl2um2k10 ай бұрын
@@bakerRebuilds The 3.5 has a "Rocker Arm" type lifter, with a roller on the camshaft, the pivot between the camshaft and the valve, and a Hydraulic "Tappet" that has a spring, keeper, and oil pocket that pushes on the valve itself. Having said that, I bought the right part.

Then tighten large bolts additional 90 degrees. The finish with small bolts torqued to 21 ft-lbs Oil pump mounting bolts: 21 ft-lbs Exhaust manifold bolts: torque to 200 in-lbs I'll upload a picture of the torque specs out of the book in my "posts" section for you and anyone who needs it. Sooo I have a 3.5L the timing belt went bad ended up with 3 bent valves got new belt on but not getting the right compression to run should I get the heads redid buy new heads or just replace engine?
@bakerRebuilds2 ай бұрын
Oof that's rough. I'd recommend a leak down test, possibly a compression test to gather more info. If you have money to blow you could just get a new engine but it might just need some work. Are you certain you set the timing correctly?
@welcome2darealr2292 ай бұрын
@@bakerRebuilds it was done at a shop and this what they told me
@bakerRebuilds2 ай бұрын
@welcome2darealr229 It's hard to say much without experiencing the vehicle myself. I'd do a compression and a leak down test. When they fixed your heads did they put in new valve seals? Replace all of them or just the ones on the bent valves? Could use a cheap borescope off Amazon to check piston tips and see if they're fine or somewhat deformed on the cylinders that bent valves. Depending on the shop they may have reused the head bolts which are supposed to be replaced each time. Are you getting any smoke out of the exhaust or it's normal?
@welcome2darealr2292 ай бұрын
@@bakerRebuildsthey only put on a new timing belt because thats all I paid for but they told me I had 3 bent valves that I needed heads or a new motor
@bakerRebuilds2 ай бұрын
@welcome2darealr229 Ah I see, my apologies. I'd get the heads redone, replacing the bent valves and all of the stem seals. Good opportunity to port and polish but not necessary. New head gaskets and replace the bolts. This alone could fix the compression issue but if you still have problems atleast the initial issue is ruled out.

Is there any way to remove the harness from the valve covers or do you just have to rip the plastic clips off?
@bakerRebuilds Жыл бұрын
They just push in, Christmas tree style clips. You can use an interior plastic type tool or pretty much any type of two prong ply tool to work them out and for the most part they're reusable.

For an experienced mechanic it will take 6-8 hrs to get it apart. For someone who hasn't done much in depth mechanic work probably closer to 10-12 hrs. Take apart, installing new gaskets after cleaning surfaces and piston tops then reassembly probably took me about 18-20 hrs.

@miguelangelcazales3120 Having the heads redone with new springs, valves, seals and reseating the valves is worth it to me if I can leave the bottom end alone.
