I would love to know what goes through his head as he plays this stuff. There is no way you can "remember" parts this complex, I think he just sees patterns in the universe and his muscle memory is so advanced he just turns these patterns into music subconsciously. Whilst playing what is to my ears some of the most aggressive music man has ever created, I would wager he is actually in a mediative state, full of serenity on a higher plane of existence. He is without question on the greatest drummers who ever lived.
@gabecomstock7251 Жыл бұрын
He seems like he's in flow state every time he plays. He's so in the zone he doesn't need to think hard about what he's doing, he just does it. Absolutele legend.

He looks so relaxed and channels the 4/4 so effortlessly, that it's easy to think this music isn't as complicated as it is. Super heavy, gritty, funky, metal.

A proper drummer, using Hi hat foot and ghost strokes - real 4 way co-ordination. I teach so many Metal guys who just don't bother learning how to play the Hi Hat with the left foot. Tomas, you are the real deal! In the main theme he's playing in 7/8 but his Hi Hat foot is playing quarters straight through, sort of like what Vinnie Colaiuta does with Sting.

idk bout portnoy being overrated,and mangini could play portnoy a stuff fill for fill but can't write anything better than portnoy. Lang is easily one of my favorites,dude is super powerful
@robertoricci33938 жыл бұрын
+ThaTruth223 I never understood what Portnoy did so important as a composer like many of his fans say. He has always been a co-writer, so I don't know if he can write a good song by himself. If you're talking about the drum parts, well, i never liked them so much. His solos lack of groove and phrasing, only random strokes at random speed all over the kit. I mean Portnoy is a good drummer and I like DT but he never was a favourite of mine.
@rastabg238 жыл бұрын
Carey isn't entirely human when he is performing, he has secrets that he doesn't tell anybody. I can assure you he isn't alone on those drums.

well the last DT album is an exact example on how important portnoy was in the writing process. his play is legendary and he was with out a doubt half if not 60% of the brain in DT.hes technically efficient,his improvition is incredible,he much like hakke/carey are surgeons behind the kit
