This run was a tough egg to crack. Well done! In Gen 2, Ty got access to Thunderpunch which helped it so much, but gen 3 was truly a weird time for the guy. It is used in Colo speedruns, and there all it does is Flame Wheel, miss Fire Blasts and the occasional Dig. In gen 4 it gets Eruption though, which gives it a niche again.

Thanks! I wanted Eruption.. Actually, I wanted Thunderpunch far more than Eruption. Either way, I'm glad that it worked out and still ended up faster than Meganium. I actually haven't played Coloseum. I have it on a list to eggsperience at some point on stream :)

Bravo for getting through this run and I hope Totodile is less stressful Also glad for any FR Rom Hack that has infinite TMs because I forgot how stressful it is that they're one use only, though I can see how that adds a layer of strategy on when to use them and on which Pokémon (But personally Gen 5 spoiled me and I can't stand limited use TMs anymore)

eggcellent sir eggcellent. ok that was a touch rough, but I was surprised at how well it ran. ok the 1st 2 runs, that was a surprise, you pulled a Scott move doing that, very wise, considering the grinding needed to deal with both Misty and the rival and the complete isolation you are in when you get to facing them, it was much needed. considering the lack of options for that part of the game, it may be worth doing more grinding like this more often to avoid the problem from the off. the R1 was surprising, I would of thought it would of been a bit easier than that, but saying that I knew Typhlosion was gonna be tough. R2 was about as I eggpected at least. the 2nd run was interesting, the chopping and changing throughout was a nice touch combined with howl for your boosting. I knew you would go for it, a boost is a boost after all. you aiming for earlier evolution for the needed power and upgraded movesets was a good choice too, you had quilava for Brock and Rock slide a lot earlier and plenty of brick breaks and digs. I think you used more TM's for this run than in any other. most impressive. I was surprised that it beat Meganium, I would thought it was gonna run worse, not by much but worse, but I guess you figured it out for the 2nd run and smashed it. you did good, I doubt many other mono fire types would do quite so well, Magmar might prove that one for me, but I love magmar so I am bias to say it will. in the chat, we mentioned Parasect again, I am glad its not just me poking you in that direction, but something else brought in that I had not considered for your runs. Breloom. an interesting Gen 3 grass type, its part fighting type and gets spore from its pre-evolution Shroomish, but at level 54 and shroomish is a rough one to run until that level. I think you'd have fun with it though in fire red it would be quite good. I'll tell you this Breloom is a personal Gen 3 fave and I use one in every sapphire and ruby run. I use one for catching the 3 regis and it does it solo every time and will be used a lot in my ruby and sapphire runs.
@Eggsceptional Жыл бұрын
Thank you, thank you. It was a little rough! I wanted so badly to let Flamethrowers burn away most of my problems, but it just wasn't to be. I kept thinking about how much differently this would have gone if I'd had access to Thunderpunch. Resetting and taking a few hours away from the controller was definitely something that needed to happen. I was upsetty spagegghti. That second run felt so messy to me. The completion time was great, but still. It worked after all! But... you know... barely :P All I had to do was look up Magmar and see Thunderpunch as an egg move. Speak of the devil! Good SpA and Speed too I can see Magmar doing quite well. In the second run anyway. I'm glad that Typhlosion ended up faster than Meganium, but I'm a little surprised that I'm more willing to play Chik again over Cynda. No, it seems everyone wants to see that Parasect video. I'm getting there, I promise! Breloom would actually be a lot of fun. I first looked into it after a suggestion of Breloom VS Tropius came in. I can't say that I'd be aiming to catch many things with it, but I can see that being a super fun run. Also, speaking of KZbin comments behaving strangely for you, I can't see your last reply on the Chikorita video. In my notifications it shows a new message, but when I expand the thread there's no new comment that shows. Weird!

@@Eggsceptional flamethrower is good but its only really good when you get it early or cheaply, typhlosion suffers the way a lot of early fire types did, strong STAB and then nothing but physical moves, its not always a good combo, Arcainine and Rapidash are the same, Charizard started it of course, but its the favorite and got the boosting moves to justify it and Typhlosion is the same, they gave it howl and thats it. thunder punch would of been good, in Gen 4, it became a lot easier to get ahold of at least, if you had looked at the move tutors with your shard collection, you might of got an elemental punch or 2 for your team. I understand you putting that controller down for a while that 1st attempt was too rough to continue. it looked a touch messy too, but better than the 1st, you are still adjusting to the new rules I think and the instant upgrades the 2nd run gave must of felt weird after the struggles of the 1st. I had a feeling you'd like Magmar, did you notice psychic on its set as well, imagine the combo of fire and thunder punch, psychic and maybe a good HP for good measure and you can get the exact same set for electabuzz as well and have ice punch as an egg move option as well, the pair of them are possibly the best fire and electric types in the game and will maybe give the doggies some genuine competition. and I understand that feeling Chikorita seemed smoother overall especially in the 2nd run, less painful at least and I think maybe with a few more runs of it could outdo typhlosion.. Breloom would be an interesting one to see, it is quite powerful in its own right, it will do well early on and once it evolves, its added STAB, moveset options and stats will bring it up to where it needs to be for the rest of the run. although I'll say it now, aerodactyl will still be a problem for it. and I have said before with Parasect, take your time, I know it can be done and I have suggested all I can for it, you can do it, who knows, given the build up, it might be your biggest most viewed video yet
@Eggsceptional Жыл бұрын
@jptheflipper3825 For sure, but the same argument could be made in Gen 4 that it's coverage is physical. Granted, there are more options on the special side as well. I haven't even thought about SS in the last couple of weeks honestly. I have too much on my plate with my back end development. I'm getting close to a point where I'm happy with everything again, but there's still changes to make. Sometimes I need to just close the editing software too :P I actually did not notice Psychic on Magmar, now I'm drooling even more. Ice Punch on Electabuzz sounds even more deadly than Thunder on Mag, but I'm thinking that Mag's ability to set up Sunny Day/higher SpA might be the difference. You're right about the format throwing me off a little right now. Both times so far the second playthrough has felt completely different to the first. It's nice to hear that even though it needed a high level that Venomoth can outspeed Aero. That gives me hope, because that means I can outspeed Charizard too! With the time that I spent grinding with Meganium instead of grabbing those extra Rare Candies I would agree with that. I think I could get a faster time with it for sure. Oh yeah, that darn Aerodactyl with it's STAB 4x effective Wing Attack/AA in R2 will be nasty. I don't know about Parasect becoming my most viewed video, but hey I'm happy to hope for the best :D Lately I've just been thinking about how I've got a good few hours of footage that's just sitting there unused. I don't enjoy leaving things unfinished :P I appreciate all of the points, tips, and discussions we've had over Parasect over the last few months. I'm hoping that I'm right about the boosting moves and making the hard switch to physical after Round 1 with it. I guess we'll know when I finally get back to the ZomBugTing. And darn, no Trick Room. But I can see if and some other slow monster having some fun in the doubles format :D As much as I want to find a good use for Sludge Bomb it just falls so short in the R2 leagues in FR. Maybe I'll get the chance more in Gen 4, but something tells me that all I will want is Cross Poison and sweet moves like that. Sludge Bomb is special though is it not? For sure! I'm definitely leaning on all of the mistakes that I've made up to this point. If nothing else, if I mess things up now I'm saving everything in such a way that going back and changing individual pieces should be relatively straightforward? I'll let you know in a few more weeks if I end up eating those words :P I'm pretty sure you've got that right with Chansey's stats. Physically Chansey is so useless. It's one of those cases where I really wish I could see the actual value of the enemy HP (working on adding things like that to GameHook). Watching 700+ health melt away to a Brick Break from like.. Politoed sure would be satisfying. I actually found that in some of my runs with bulkier Pokémon. The bulk and safety that Nidoqueen offers over Nido is great. All out offense is fun and all, but it sometimes feels like it becomes a case of knock out or be knocked out. I'm thinking Queen even in a special focused set will be taking some physical coverage, definitely in Round 2. I can see Rock Slide being great, even Return, Brick Break. You know, the usual suspects. Hopefully by Round 2 then I could plan to have enough cash to get the last of my coverage. I smell an army of Meowths in those runs for SURE.
@jptheflipper3825 Жыл бұрын
@@Eggsceptional thats fair with Gen 4, but the physical special split necessitated it, nearly every move needed a new physical or special equivalent to keep it all fair and to show off the new mechanic. for anything with a decent set already, the option to go full coverage physical, special or perfectly mixed increased massively and anything with a boosting move or 2 even more so. I do miss the SS runs already, Gen 4 is home away from home after all but you are exploring new things and thats no bad thing. I had a feeling you'd like Magmar and Electabuzz, they are quite a pair and make for decent mixed attackers if you wish it with a little brick break action and a physical attack to back it up as well. I have used both in runs where the team is made up of mixed attackers, very useful. the format is quite contrasting when looking at 1st and 2nd runs, 1st runs you are limited and learning at once and then 2nd you have everything you need for a run. you'll like Venomoth, aside from maybe Masquerain (my face Gen 3 bug) it is the best special attacking bug in the game and will serve you well. on the subject of masquerain, you'd love it, bubblebeam is an option for pre-evo move and psybeam and hydro pump are egg move options. a bug that can stand against the fire types without HP, very nice. I'm sure a balance of both grinding for levels and grabbing the candies along the way would of worked very nicely for you, a better time is almost always possible, its a matter of luck half the time, RNG luck to be eggsact. a miss, a crit, meowth pickup luck, all of it adds up to minutes gained or lost. look at the way Scott tortures himself for perfect times in Yellow, I think his Hypno which is 2nd from the top took 10 attempts. there is a plus, it doesn't always go for the flying move, sometimes goes for anicent power, it hits half as hard but still hard but survivable and thats all you need it to be, living one hit can be enough with Lance. I think the people want to see the ZomBugTing, you and me talk of it, in the chat it comes up with or without me being there to prompt it and I can imagine others can read all of this in the comments see what is possible with it, the interest is there and you wanting to finish what you have started and justify the pain of it will get it done and it will be great for it, if nothing else, every run you do afterwards will feel easy, think of how easy the run after Shuckle felt. there are a few options for a slow trick room partner for Parasect, if I may suggest the Duskull line is quite good for it, Dusclops is a fine ghost as you know and in Gen 4 it is better as is its very big and slow evo Dusklops, I've used the combo before it works nicely, the coverage is quite good between the 2 of them as well despite the need of various status and boosting moves. it is true with sludge bomb, by the time you get it in fire red, you don't particularly need it. in Gen 4 it is indeed special and to me, the best special poison move in the game, base 90 and with 30% chance to poison is very nice in a game where poison types were not quite as common as in previous gens and with the fairy type in Gen 6, it became even better. for Gen 4, cross poison is cool, also consider poison tab, very handy as it is a TM as well. it is a handy way of going about it a mistake made early can be changed by starting again without it being a monstrous time sink and a waste, I;d anything early game is game playing like that. past Surge, it might be a bit much in the long run. but we shall see seeing that hateful pink thing fall to anything is always satisfying, it is a shame there isn't something it could have that derives its power from its HP, it would be immensely powerful if it could have that, its access to many trolly and stally moves is what makes it a menace though, if you run one, I suggest seismic toss and toxic on it and thats about it. I think queen might win of the 2 if used right simply because of its bulk, its well balanced for FR, its attacking stats and speed are not bad and can be physical, special, mixed or stally if you want it to be without problem but its capacity to take more hits on top of that makes it superb. there have been points in competitive play where Queen has been better than King for just those reasons. going for a mixed set for it at times might prove to be use as pure special is not always easy. there is something you will like we have not talked of, both Nidos, thanks to their strange breeding mechanics, have the same egg moves and one of them is confusion, a rather handy early special move that will deal with Brock quickly.

@@Eggsceptional nice run as usual, like I predicted, howl is the way to go, although for the final fight, I would have said it could have been done better with lets say a moveset of return, earthquake, sub and howl. HP wise ghost would have rounded the coverage up by giving you a good option for lorelei's slowbro and agatha's ghosts. Try to do your grind early for EVs if needed as u can get the EXP along the way and still gain the stats u need, FRLG is nice in the sense that there is an abundance of attack and speed EVs all around (I was kinda sad there are little to no trainers to grind for Special attack though :(, resulting in the need to grind wild gastlys and haunters if u really need the special attack evs in pkmn tower) I have done like 3 runs previously, 2 special attack focused typhlosion (2nd special run I did have a blast using focus punch against champion 2,haha) and 1 egg move physical set and damn, howl does help speed it up so much, if only typhlosion gets it gen 4 moves and TM list here, this run would have been so much smoother, imagine eruption and solarbeam on the set

@@Eggsceptional I have ran some calcs with ur current stat at the current lvl u have entered the elite 4, I am assuming the overlay accounts with badge boosts in mind? Anyways, at lv 83 if heracross uses rock tomb u will have a 21-24.9% damage range for it, so the sub will definately still be alive if heracross is in speed-control mode, giving u ample time to setup to +3(for 50-50 coinflip on blastoise) or +4 (for guaranteed 1 hit KO) with howl. Not sure if u notice it but like gen 1, fire and electric types in particular really suffer a lot in Kanto, it feels really bad when u have to play these 2 types in general. :( Magmar I believe can breeze through round 1 with a breeze, it will be round 2 that makes it a big issue. Looking fwd to the Magmar play if that is coming anytime soon, it might be good putting it as a trio run (with electabuzz and Jynx), since these 3 are like the defacto starters of firered omega, another fun firered romhack u can find.

Can come up with a dozen ways having eggs being your moniker can hard boil you, but instead it lit a flame under you griddle in creativity! So, I guess this is just a way to say... Well done, watching these always leaves me sunny side up!

Very much enjoying the content and I don't want to step on any toes but I have a request that would be unique to your channel based on the content so far. I've recently been doing an emerald nuzlocke and was surprised when my route 102 encounter wasn't a Lotad but a 1% Seedot. I had honestly planned a team around Lotad as I already had a Poochyena and getting Seedot really made me reconsider my team composition. So despite you usually doing either versus or line challenges I was wondering if you'd make an exception and do a line versus line challenge with Lotad and Seedot as I expect the early games and late games will very drastically
@Eggsceptional11 ай бұрын
I could definitely eggsplore a line style VS video. All I ask is for your patience. I have roughly a million projects that I have on the list at the moment :D Thanks!

@@Eggsceptional sure, no worries. Love the changes you've made to leader intros and the display of stats etc. Also enjoying the gen 5 content as B/W & B2/W2 are some of my favorite games in the series, I think they're eggsceptional and your content is too. Also, your team is shaping up nicely.

I just started the video and i have to say, I do enjoy me some burnanating, and the curvy S's are nice, HOWEVER I do not see any beefcake arms and that's very disappointing.

Aw man!!! If only I had the artistic ability to make some big beefy arms for Typhlosion. We could've used them!

@@EggsceptionalWell that's easy to fix! Go watch the old video where strong bad is drawing him up, screen grab the magnificent beefcake arms, paste them on typhlosion. Then BAM, you've got a beefcake typhlosion, I figure that should AT LEAST double his physical damage.

Seriously! It's one of the few design choices that I question that I cannot rationalize AT ALL. It feels like it's just there to punish new players. And old players. And me :P

You know, it might be OK for the second, gym, if you're stuck there, since there's literally nowhere to grind if you just kept the experience from attempts instead of resetting like when you knocked out staryu but got killed by starmee that was 400 experience. Just keep it
@Eggsceptional Жыл бұрын
That's a fair point, actually. I wonder if it would have been better to knock out even Pidgeotto over and over. They both give speed EVs, which are usually useful for solo runners. Definitely something to consider, thank you :)
@114bleachfan Жыл бұрын
@Eggsceptional Yeah, it just makes more sense. The second gym is a brutal spot in the game. With no grinding don't think most people would hold that against you. It's different than any other area where you have other options
@Eggsceptional Жыл бұрын
@@114bleachfan I do like that you can find the shaky spots in the grass for Audinos. It at least adds some interest/tactile reward for grinding, getting like 600-700 XP instead of level 10 Rattatas over and over for 70 XP a pop :P
